Endothelial injury can be repaired in part by endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs). In diabetes, impaired functionality and reduced number of EPCs are reported. AMP-activated kinase (AMPK) is a well-known target of several anti-diabetic and cardiovascular drugs. The objective of this study was to examine whether the activation of AMPK in endothelium alone is sufficient to prevent diabetes-induced impairment in vascular function, possibly by improving EPC function and endothelial repair using a tissue-specific transgenic mouse model. Risk-adjusted performance, selectivity, timing ability and performance persistence of Hong Kong mutual funds

This paper examines the performance of thirty Hong Kong mutual funds during the period from August 1995 to July 2005. The issues of risk-adjusted performance, selectivity, timing ability and performance persistence are addressed. We employ the signal-factor model, three-factor models and the measurements of Jensen’s alpha and Treynor ratio to evaluate the weekly returns on the sample funds relative to the performance of the Hong Kong market benchmark. Treynor and Mazuy (1966)’s quadratic model is used for assessing selectivity and timing ability of fund managers. Performance persistence of Hong Kong mutual funds is assessed at successive two-year intervals based on their ranking according to both Jensen measure and Treynor measure. Evidence of underperformance of Hong Kong mutual funds relative to the market is found. No significant selectivity and timing ability are shown in the results of the actively managed mutual funds. Persistence is identified for the performance of both winners and losers in the short run

El acuerdo de Hong Kong ha desbloqueado la Ronda de Doha. Entre los días 13 y 18 de diciembre se celebró en Hong Kong la VI cumbre interministerial de la Organización Mundial del Comercio (OMC). El acuerdo alcanzado por los 150 países miembros de la OMC ha permitido salvar la Ronda Doha y no repetir el fracaso de 2003 en la cumbre de Cancún, dando un necesario impulso a la legitimidad de la OMC. Este artículo explica el funcionamiento de las negociaciones comerciales internacionales, examina el contenido y las implicaciones económicas y políticas del acuerdo de Hong Kong y analiza los elementos de la negociación que todavía quedan pendientes

New transformation of Wigner operator in phase space quantum mechanics for the two-mode entangled case

As a natural extension of Fan's paper (arXiv: 0903.1769vl [quant-ph]) by employing the formula of operators' Weyl ordering expansion and the bipartite entangled state representation we find new two-fold complex integration transformation about the Wigner operator (in its entangled form) in phase space quantum mechanics and its inverse transformation. In this way, some operator ordering problems can be solved and the contents of phase space quantum mechanics can be enriched.Comment: 8 pages, 0 figure
