TURNING TECHNIQUE OF ELITE SWIMMERS IN BUTTERFLY AND BREASTSTROKE
The objective of this study was to determine the kinematic differences of the turning technique in butterfly and breaststroke between elite Hong Kong swimmers and the finalists of British Commonwealth Games (BCG) in 1982 during 100m butterfly and breaststroke events. A video head was fixed into a water-resistance box which was put underwater and mounted on the side of the pool. The motion of the butterfly and breaststroke swimmers were filmed in the sagittal plane. Then the video materials were processed usirlg a PEAK Performance System. The kinematic parameters included distance out, time out, and average horizontal speed out. The results showed that the average horizontal speed out for most of the subjects were smaller than the average horizontal speed out in BCG (1 982)

Systematic risk at the industry level: A case study of Australia
The cornerstone of the capital asset pricing model (CAPM) lies with its beta. The question of whether or not beta is dead has attracted great attention from academics and practitioners in the last 50 years or so, and the debate is still ongoing. Many empirical studies have been conducted to test the validity of beta within the framework of CAPM. However, it is a claim of this paper that beta at the industry level has been largely ignored in the current literature. This study is conducted to examine if beta, proxied for a systematic risk, should be considered valid in the application of the CAPM at the industry level for Australia using daily data on 2200 stocks listed on the Australian Securities Exchange from January 2007 to 31 December 2016. Various portfolio formations are utilized in this paper. General economic conditions such as interest rate, inflation, and GDP are examples of systematic risk. Findings from this study indicate that the selection of portfolio construction, estimation technique, and news about economic conditions significantly affects the view whether or not beta should be considered as a valid measure of systematic risk
Experimental Controlled-NOT Logic Gate for Single Photons in the Coincidence Basis
We report a proof-of-principle demonstration of a probabilistic
controlled-NOT gate for single photons. Single-photon control and target qubits
were mixed with a single ancilla photon in a device constructed using only
linear optical elements. The successful operation of the controlled-NOT gate
relied on post-selected three-photon interference effects which required the

Planar Octilinear Drawings with One Bend Per Edge
In octilinear drawings of planar graphs, every edge is drawn as an
alternating sequence of horizontal, vertical and diagonal ()
line-segments. In this paper, we study octilinear drawings of low edge
complexity, i.e., with few bends per edge. A -planar graph is a planar graph
in which each vertex has degree less or equal to . In particular, we prove
that every 4-planar graph admits a planar octilinear drawing with at most one
bend per edge on an integer grid of size . For 5-planar
graphs, we prove that one bend per edge still suffices in order to construct
planar octilinear drawings, but in super-polynomial area. However, for 6-planar
graphs we give a class of graphs whose planar octilinear drawings require at
least two bends per edge
Demonstration of Feed-Forward Control for Linear Optics Quantum Computation
One of the main requirements in linear optics quantum computing is the
ability to perform single-qubit operations that are controlled by classical
information fed forward from the output of single photon detectors. These
operations correspond to pre-determined combinations of phase corrections and
bit-flips that are applied to the post-selected output modes of
non-deterministic quantum logic devices. Corrections of this kind are required
in order to obtain the correct logical output for certain detection events, and
their use can increase the overall success probability of the devices. In this
paper, we report on the experimental demonstration of the use of this type of
feed-forward system to increase the probability of success of a simple
non-deterministic quantum logic operation from approximately 1/4 to 1/2. This
logic operation involves the use of one target qubit and one ancilla qubit
which, in this experiment, are derived from a parametric down-conversion photon
pair. Classical information describing the detection of the ancilla photon is
fed-forward in real-time and used to alter the quantum state of the output
photon. A fiber optic delay line is used to store the output photon until a
polarization-dependent phase shift can be applied using a high speed Pockels
cell
Phase transitions in a ferrofluid at magnetic field induced microphase separation
In the presence of a magnetic field applied perpendicular to a thin sample
layer, a suspension of magnetic colloidal particles (ferrofluid) can form
spatially modulated phases with a characteristic length determined by the
competition between dipolar forces and short-range forces opposing density
variations. We introduce models for thin-film ferrofluids in which
magnetization and particle density are viewed as independent variables and in
which the non-magnetic properties of the colloidal particles are described
either by a lattice-gas entropy or by the Carnahan-Starling free energy. Our
description is particularly well suited to the low-particle density regions
studied in many experiments. Within mean-field theory, we find isotropic,
hexagonal and stripe phases, separated in general by first-order phase

Market risk analysis of energy in Vietnam
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate and estimate market risk for the ten major industries in Vietnam. The focus of the empirical analysis is on the energy sector, which has been designated as one of the four key industries, together with services, food, and telecommunications, targeted for economic development by the Vietnam Government through to 2020. The oil and gas industry is a separate energy-related major industry, and it is evaluated separately from energy. The data set is from 2009 to 2017, which is decomposed into two distinct sub-periods after the Global Financial Crisis (GFC), namely the immediate post-GFC (2009â2011) period and the normal (2012â2017) period, in order to identify the behavior of market risk for Vietnamâs major industries. For the stock market in Vietnam, the website used in this paper provided complete and detailed data for each stock, as classified by industry. Two widely used approaches to measure and analyze risk are used in the empirical analysis, namely Value-at-Risk (VaR) and Conditional Value-at-Risk (CVaR). The empirical findings indicate that Energy and Pharmaceuticals are the least risky industries, whereas oil and gas and securities have the greatest risk. In general, there is strong empirical evidence that the four key industries display relatively low risk. For public policy, the Vietnam Governmentâs proactive emphasis on the targeted industries, including energy, to achieve sustainable economic growth and national economic development, seems to be working effectively. This paper presents striking empirical evidence that Vietnamâs industries have substantially improved their economic performance over the full sample, moving from relatively higher levels of market risk in the immediate post-GFC period to a lower risk environment in a normal period several years after the end of the calamitous GFC
The CIPAZ study protocol: an open label randomised controlled trial of azithromycin versus ciprofloxacin for the treatment of children hospitalised with dysentery in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Background: Diarrhoeal disease remains a common cause of illness and death in children <5 years of age. Faecal-oral infection by Shigella spp. causing bacillary dysentery is a leading cause of moderate-to-severe diarrhoea, particularly in low and middle-income countries. In Southeast Asia, S. sonnei predominates and infections are frequently resistant to first-line treatment with the fluoroquinolone, ciprofloxacin. While resistance to all antimicrobials is increasing, there may be theoretical and clinical benefits to prioritizing treatment of bacillary dysentery with the azalide, azithromycin. In this study we aim to measure the efficacy of treatment with azithromycin compared with ciprofloxacin, the current standard of care, for the treatment of children with bacillary dysentery.
Methods and analysis: We will perform a multicentre, open-label, randomized controlled trial of two therapeutic options for the antimicrobial treatment of children hospitalised with dysentery. Children (6â60 months of age) presenting with symptoms and signs of dysentery at Childrenâs Hospital 2 in Ho Chi Minh City will be randomised (1:1) to treatment with either oral ciprofloxacin (15mg/kg/twice daily for 3 days, standard-of-care) or oral azithromycin (10mg/kg/daily for 3 days). The primary endpoint will be the proportion of treatment failure (defined by clinical and microbiological parameters) by day 28 (+3 days) and will be compared between study arms by logistic regression modelling using treatment allocation as the main variable.
Ethics and dissemination: The study protocol (version 1.2 dated 27th December 2018) has been approved by the Oxford Tropical Research Ethics Committee (47â18) and the ethical review boards of Children's Hospital 2 (1341/NÄ2-CÄT). The study has also been approved by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health (5044/QÄ-BYT).

Treating colorectal peritoneal metastases with an injectable cytostatic loaded supramolecular hydrogel in a rodent animal model
Patients with peritoneal metastases (PM) of colorectal cancer have a very poor outcome. Intraperitoneal delivery of chemotherapy is the preferred route for PM treatment. The main limitation of the treatment options is the short residence time of the cytostatic, with subsequent short exposure of the cancer cells. To address this, a supramolecular hydrogel has been developed that allows both local and slow release of its encapsulated drug, mitomycin C (MMC) or cholesterol-conjugated MMC (cMMC), respectively. This experimental study investigates if drug delivery using this hydrogel improves the therapeutic efficacy against PM. PM was induced in WAG/Rij rats (n = 72) by intraperitoneally injecting syngeneic colon carcinoma cells (CC531) expressing luciferase. After seven days, animals received a single intraperitoneal injection with saline (n = 8), unloaded hydrogel (n = 12), free MMC (n = 13), free cMMC (n = 13), MMC-loaded hydrogel (n = 13), or cMMC-loaded hydrogel (n = 13). Primary outcome was overall survival with a maximum follow-up of 120 days. Intraperitoneal tumor development was non-invasive monitored via bioluminescence imaging. Sixty-one rats successfully underwent all study procedures and were included to assess therapeutic efficacy. After 120 days, the overall survival in the MMC-loaded hydrogel and free MMC group was 78% and 38%, respectively. A trend toward significance was found when comparing the survival curves of the MMC-loaded hydrogel and free MMC (p = 0.087). No survival benefit was found for the cMMC-loaded hydrogel compared to free cMMC. Treating PM with our MMC-loaded hydrogel, exhibiting prolonged MMC exposure, seems effective in improving survival compared to treatment with free MMC.</p
