Dynamic voltage scaling algorithms for soft and hard real-time system

    Get PDF
Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS) has not been investigated completely for further minimizing the energy consumption of microprocessor and prolonging the operational life of real-time systems. In this dissertation, the workload prediction based DVS and the offline convex optimization based DVS for soft and hard real-time systems are investigated, respectively. The proposed algorithms of soft and hard real-time systems are implemented on a small scaled wireless sensor network (WSN) and a simulation model, respectively

Insight into resolution enhancement in generalized two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy

    Get PDF
Generalized two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2D-COS) can be used to enhance spectral resolution in order to help differentiate highly overlapped spectral bands. Despite the numerous extensive 2D-COS investigations, the origin of the 2D spectral resolution enhancement mechanism(s) is not completely understood. In the work here, we studied the 2D-COS of simulated spectra in order to develop new insights into the dependence of 2D-COS spectral features on the overlapping band separations, their intensities and bandwidths, and their band intensity change rates. We found that the features in the 2D-COS maps that are derived from overlapping bands were determined by the spectral normalized half-intensities and the total intensity changes of the correlated bands. We identified the conditions required to resolve overlapping bands. In particular, 2D-COS peak resolution requires that the normalized half-intensities of a correlating band have amplitudes between the maxima and minima of the normalized half-intensities of the overlapping bands. © 2013 Society for Applied Spectroscopy

Spectral Deconvolution Analysis of Mafic Mineral in Irregular Mare Patches on the Moon

    Get PDF
Irregular mare patches (IMPs), recently discovered on the Moon, are eruptions of magma on the lunar surface, and their origins are still in question. While prior studies on IMPs have mainly focused on optical image analysis, in this study, an analysis of the characteristics of minerals is performed exemplary for the first time. Modified Gaussian model (MGM) deconvolution was applied to the infrared spectrum to confirm the properties of the mafic mineral. Mafic minerals were analyzed for 6 olivine-rich (Ol-rich) IMPs out of 91 currently reported, and only 4 of them yielded results of significance. All four sites showed more abundance of Fe than Mg, and manifested a weak relationship with Mg-suite rock. However, a problem was discovered during the MGM application process due to pilot implementation. In order to solve this problem, it is required to adjust the MGM initial condition settings more precisely and to increase the signal to noise ratio of the observation data. Moreover, it is necessary to analyze the mineral properties for all IMPs considering minerals other than Ol and utilize them to deduce the origin of the IMPs

Note: Contrast enhancement and artifact suppression in computed tomography using sinogram normalization

The intensity and direction of the incident beam at the sample position in synchrotron full-field transmission X-ray microscopy is subject to change. Incident-beam fluctuation in computed tomography results in significant contrast degradation of the reconstructed image. In the present study, we devised a simple method by which that problem could be corrected using sinogram normalization. According to our results, the image contrast was improved by 13%, and the artifacts were suppressed. © 2018 Author(s).11Nsciescopu
