Online commerce, in particular, the development of electronic platforms, contributes to making counterfeit goods relatively easy to reach customers. Globally, counterfeit goods are on the rise, and intellectual property rights enforcement authorities publicly acknowledge that the quantity of goods seized is only a minimum of what gets to individual markets. The infringement of intellectual property rights is a significant problem, and due attention is also given to this issue in the European Union (EU) pays due attention to it (European Commission). This finding is also evidenced by a study on the production and trade of counterfeit goods, published by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), mapping the situation in the individual EU Member States. The main aim of the paper is to characterize and mapping of trends in the means of transporting counterfeits to EU countries between 2014-2018. The current trend of globalization and loosening in international trade gives criminal gangs the possibility of organized crime. These gangs make use of all available transport options (air, road, sea, postal, and others), and it is challenging to trace where counterfeit goods originate. The paper maps trends that occurred throughout the EU, whose market is affected by the transport of counterfeit goods. According to OECD and EUIPO reports, which assess, among other things, the rate of customs seizures of counterfeit goods, most counterfeits originate in East Asia (China, Hong Kong, India). The paper is divided into four main parts. The introduction section summarizes the results of a literature review of relevant studies (EC, OECD, EUIPO) and papers published in the SCOPUS and Web of Science databases. In the second part of the paper, attention is paid to the results of a comparison of the statistics from 2014-2018 published by the European Commission. The statistics are based on seizures of individual parts of the Community and are provided to the European Commission by the Customs Administrations of the Member States of the European Union. The paper examines the number of cases, articles, and retail value of transporting counterfeits to the EU by air, express, post, rail, road, and sea. To compare the statistics and the graph of transport trends to visualize the number of cases, articles, and retail value of counterfeits concerning means of transport. These trends are mapped in the discussion section. By comparing the statistics, one can get an idea of the current state of the EU market, and based on statistical analysis, are constructed trend graphs. In conclusion, the main problematic aspects of the transport of counterfeits to the European Union are formulated. It is outlined how the transportation of Intellectual Property infringing items is likely to continue. © 2020 Italian Association of Chemical Engineering - AIDIC. All rights reserved

    Get PDF
The threat of theft of works of art, antiques and books which are always being stolen from museums, galleries and archives in the Czech Republic, as well as abroad, remains present. Given the existence of the current stolen objects markets and the fact that artefacts keep their value which grows in time, theft will continue into the future. Thus, the security of museum collections and buildings is a pressing issue. It is, therefore, important to seek modern, secure and cheap solutions for the smaller museums in the Czech Republic. This paper describes the current state of security in the Czech Republic and proposes appropriate solutions of the problem of security in museums and galleries. The situation is very critical in some museum areas. Historic heritage is not sufficiently protected. The present study solves the analysis of the state of the historical heritage at present. The protection of the historical heritage is better than the Velvet Revolution. The article deals with the protection of monuments currently, analyzes the current security situation in museums in the Czech Republic and suggests a solution that would improve the future security of artefacts. Get PDF
COVID-19 has created an entirely new unknown environment with new risks. Various restrictive national measures seeking to protect health took precedence over economic measures. Moreover, a large number of businesses are entirely dependent on international trade and exports. The aim of this paper is to map and analyze the development of small and medium enterprises’ exports during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Czech Republic. Moreover, it identifies the most significant export risks and their perception by small and medium enterprises. The chi-square test, Cramer’s coefficient, and exact binomial test were used to verify the statistical dependencies of research questions and hypotheses. Empirically, the statistically significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the decline in small and medium enterprises’ exports was confirmed. In connection with the effectiveness of risk management, it was found that less than 50% of enterprises in the research sample are not ISO 31000-certified. The study concluded that the most significant export risks confirmed by statistical testing were COVID-19 risks and payment morale of foreign trading partners. © Romana Heinzova, Eva Hoke, Tomas Urbanek, Pavel Taraba, 2023

Competitiveness of the regions in the Czech Republic from the perspective of disaster risk financing

    Get PDF
Mitigation of the impact of disasters and increasing resilience represent an inseparable part of the competitiveness of regions that cannot be implemented without a necessary resource framework. The paper focuses on the issue of financing individual phases of disaster management at the level of regions in the Czech conditions. The article is based on the assumption that public authorities do not systematically plan funds for dealing with crisis situations in the expenditure part of the budget, thereby not supporting the structural and functional conditions of territorial attractiveness, security and sustainability. The aim of the article is to propose a unique calculation of the minimum fund allocation for individual phases of disaster risk reduction at the regional level. The calculation concept is based on the value of the property owned by the region, the number of crisis situations predicted in the region, the number of crisis situations predicted in the Czech Republic, the administrative territory of the region and the total expenditures of the regional budget. The article presents a specific national approach to the public fund allocation to the individual disaster risk management phases, providing competitive administration and progressive and resilient development of the region. Based on the originally elaborated calculation, a comparative analysis of the expenditure part of 13 regional budgets for the 2013-2019 period was performed. The premise on the insufficient financing of disaster management was confirmed, although the Crisis Management Act imposes this obligation. The results showed that the most underfunded area was the implementation phase

To improve long-term outcomes for Burkitt leukaemia/lymphoma (BL) or aggressive lymphomas in adults, we assessed the benefit of adding rituximab and filgrastim support to a dose-dense modified chemotherapy regimen from the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB) 9251 trial. One hundred and five patients (aged 19–79 years) were enrolled; 27% were >60 years old; 47% had high or high-intermediate risk by International Prognostic Index (IPI) criteria. Common severe toxicities included stomatitis/upper gastrointestinal toxicity (69%), renal insufficiency (10%), neurological events (25%) and pulmonary events (18%). Seven died from treatment-related causes (1 central nervous system bleed, 4 infections, 2 respiratory failure); 5 were > 60 years old. Results in this adult population are encouraging as complete response (CR) was observed in 83% and 4-year event-free (EFS) and overall survivals (OS) were 74% and 78%, respectively. Results compare favourably to our prior chemotherapy alone study (CALGB 9251) but despite this, high-risk patients still had worse outcomes. In conclusion, short duration, intensive chemo-immunotherapy is feasible and should be considered in adults with BL as it results in high remission rates and durable remissions

Economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the national economy of the Czech Republic

    Get PDF
The paper deals with the analysis of the impact of Covid-19 on the economy of the Czech Republic. The Covid-19 pandemic is an extreme burden and crisis for our economy, and not just ours. The health crisis spilled over into the economic crisis at lightning speed. The paper focuses on analyzing and evaluating the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the economy of the Czech Republic. The author's team focused on two variables, namely gross domestic product and unemployment in the Czech Republic. The dependence of macroeconomic variables is investigated through one of the primary statistical analysis methods - regression analysis. The paper aims to propose a model that explains the relationship between these two variables in the conditions of the Czech Republic through empirically determined data on the level of gross domestic product and unemployment. Based on this model, it will be possible to estimate/predict the further development of unemployment depending on the expected development of GDP. Attention will also be paid to estimating whether and, if so, how the described relationship is changing in connection with the current development of the Czech economy during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
