COSIMA MC technological development Final report

    No full text
NASA and ESA are performing a number of cometary missions in the near future. For this purpose, experiments shall be constructed for the chemical analysis of cometary dust particles. The experiments CIDA and COSIMA are particulate analyzing spectrometers, which are excellent candidates for these missions. They use the principe of the Time-Of-Flight Spectrometry and Fast Data Analysis. This project has prepared the basis for a participation and within its framework fabricated one system. More will follow. EUVSAT. Phase 1: Studie Zusammenfassung. Endbericht

With the aid of the EUVSAT (Extreme Ultraviolet Satellite) satellite the research of the solar corona is to be carried out by observations in extreme and soft x-ray light. The scientific objectives included investigations into (1) the heating of the corona by observing small and smallest structures and their magnetic fields; (2) impulsive events (flares and coronal mass ejections); (3) global processes of generation and maintenance of the solar magnetic field; (4) the origin of the solar wind. Within the scope of this study, a general concept for the project of the small scientific satellite EUVSAT was developed, comprising the space vehicle segment (satellite and telescopes); the carrier and launch support (START / 99 orbit and 51 orbit) and different ground operations concepts for a 1-year mission duration. The EUVSAT concept provides a bundle of four telescopes imaging in four different EUV wavelengths. Using the ATON small satellite and new measurement technology, both the solar XUV/EUV proton fluxes and terrestrial EUV/UV emissions (airglow, aurora) are to be measured radiometrically with an unprecedented accuracy of >10% and are to be analyzed and modeled to derive the most important parameters of the thermosphere. Under this study, an overall concept was developed for the project of this scientific small satellite, comprising the space vehicle segment (satellite and experiments), the launcher and launch support (START / 63 orbit), and different ground operations concepts for a two-year mission time. The satellite carries 6 onboard experiments.
