A cell-based smoothed three-node plate finite element with a bubble node for static analyses of both thin and thick plates

    Get PDF
This paper develops the cell-based (CS) smoothed finite element method for a three-node plate finite element with a bubble node at the centroid of the element. Based on the first-order shear deformation theory, the in-plane strains are smoothed on three non-overlapped subdomains of the element to transform the numerical integration of the element stiffness matrix from the surfaces into the lines of the subdomains. The shear-locking phenomenon, which occurs when the plate's thickness becomes small, is removed by employing the mixed interpolation of tensorial components (MITC). The present element, namely CS-MITC3+, passes the patch test and behaves independently from the sequence of node numbers of the element. Numerical results given by the CS-MITC3+ elements are better than the MITC3+ elements. As compared to other smoothed three-node plate finite elements, the CS-MITC3+ is a good competitor

Purple nonsulfur bacteria are a group that has so much biotechnological applications, particularly in producing of functional food rich with unsaturated fatty acids. A purple nonsulfur bacterium (named HPB.6) was chosen based on its strong growth, high lipid and synthesis of unsaturated fatty acid (omega 6,7,9). Studying on basic biological characteristics showed that the cells of HPB.6 were observed as ovoid-rod shape, none motility, Gram negative staining. The diameter of single bacterium was about 0.8-1.0 µm. The cells divide by binary fission and had bacteriochlorophyll a (Bchl a). This bacterium grew well on medium with carbon and nitrogen sources such as acetate, succinate, pyruvate, butyrate, glutamate, arginine, leucine, tyrosine, alanine, methionine, threonine, glutamine, yeast extract and NH4Cl. This selected strain grew well on medium with salt concentrations from 1.5 - 6.0% (optimum 3%), pH from 5.0 to 8.0 (optimum at pH 6.5) and could withstand Na2S at 4.0 - 5.2 mM. Based on morphological, physiological properties and 16S rRNA analysis received demonstrated that HPB.6 strain belongs to the species Rhodovulum sulfidophilum

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic, alongside the restrictive measures implemented for its control, may considerably affect people’s lives particularly vulnerable persons such as children, elderly and people with underlying diseases. This study aimed to assess the well-being of Vietnamese people after COVID-19 lockdown measures were lifted and life gradually returned to normal in Vietnam. Methods: An online survey was organized from 21 st to 25 th April 2020 among Vietnamese residents aged 18 and over. Data were collected concerning the participants’ health status, COVID-19 preventive behaviour, and consequences of the preventive measures. The WHO-5 Well-Being Index was used to score participants’ well-being. Results: A total of 1922 responses were analyzed (mean age was 31 years; range: 18-76). Factors associated with a high well-being score included older age, eating healthy food, practising physical exercise, working from home, and adherence to the COVID-19 preventive measures. Female participants, persons worried about their relatives’ health, and smokers were more likely to have a low well-being score. Conclusions: The Vietnamese people continued to follow COVID-19 preventive measures even after the lockdown was lifted. Most respondents scored high on the well-being scale. However, the emergence of a new COVID-19 outbreak with an epicenter in Da Nang city is expected to increase public anxiety and mental health problems. It is clear that together with preventive measures, developing strategies to guarantee the well-being of the Vietnamese people’s is equally important

Depression and its associated factors among pregnant women in central Vietnam.

    Get PDF
To date, little attention has been given to prenatal depression, especially in low and middle-income countries. The aim of this research was to assess the prevalence of depression and its associated factors amongst pregnant women in a central Vietnamese city. This cross-sectional study included 150 pregnant women from 29 to 40 weeks of gestation, from eight wards of Hue city, via quota sampling from February to May 2019. We employed the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) to assess depression. Findings suggest the need to provide routine screening of pregnant women in primary care for depressive symptoms and other mental health problems. This is part of the EBLS proejct of which Prof Eisner is PI. Lithofacies and paleogeographical characteristics of late Pleistocene-Holocene deposits are related to three sedimentary system tracts: Lowstand systems tract (LST) corresponds to the low regressive phase from 50 ka BP to 18 ka BP. The sedimentary accumulative space is situated from the boundary of weathering crust to the 100 m water depth. In Ba Lat rivermouth area, the lowstand systems tract is dominated by the alluvial silty sand facies group (arLST); Transgressive systems tract (TST) in Ba Lat rivermouth area constitutes a lithofacies section including three facies in upward direction as follows: (1) Transgressive alluvial silty - sand facies (atTST). (2) Transgressive estuary sandy - mud facies (amtTST). (3) Lagoonal maximum transgressive greenish clay facies (mtTST); Highstand systems tract (HST) in the downstream Red river delta area constitutes a deltaic plain structure consisting of three parts: High subaerial delta, low subaerial delta and subaqueous delta, which had been formed from 5 ka BP.Đặc điểm tuớng đá - cổ địa lý trầm tích Pleistocen muộn-Holocen khu vực cửa sông Ba Lạt gắn liền với ba miền hệ thống trầm tích: Miền hệ thống trầm tích biển thấp (LST) tương ứng với pha biển thoái thấp từ 50.000 năm BP đến 18.000 năm cách ngày nay.

COMPARATIVE STUDY ON VOLATILE COMPOUNDS OF AGARWOOD FROM KHANH HOA PROVINCE EXTRACTED BY DIFFERENT METHODS

    Get PDF
Agarwood from Aquilaria crassna cultivated in Khanh Hoa province was extracted by 5 methods, including simple, enzyme-assited, and microwave-assisted hydrodistillation, extraction with solvent and supercritical carbon dioxide. The volatile compounds of the products were analyzed by GC-MS. Almost all samples contain some common characteristic components, such as Valerianol, Agarospirol, Eudesmol b-, Eudesmol 10-epi-g-, 2-Allyl-4-methylphenol, Guaiol and Neopetasone. However, there were obvious differences in yields, composition, and number of identified components. The application of the more advanced methods for the extraction of agarwood resulted in saving of time and energy, and some improvement of product yield. However, these methods also lead to unconventional products with many unknown components, what requires further investigations
