Existence of Long-Range Order for Trapped Interacting Bosons
We derive an inequality governing ``long range'' order for a localized
Bose-condensed state, relating the condensate fraction at a given temperature
with effective curvature radius of the condensate and total particle number.
For the specific example of a one-dimensional, harmonically trapped dilute Bose
condensate, it is shown that the inequality gives an explicit upper bound for
the Thomas-Fermi condensate size which may be tested in current experiments.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, RevTex4. Title changed at the request of editors;

Determination of a set of constitutive equations for an al-li alloy at SPF conditions
© 2015 The Authors.Uniaxial tensile tests of aluminium-lithium alloy AA1420wereconducted at superplastic forming conditions. The mechanical properties of this Al-Li alloy were then modelled by a set of physicallybased constitutive equations. The constitutive equations describe the isotropic work hardening, recovery and damage by dislocation density changes and grain size evolution. Based on a recent upgraded optimisation technique, the material constants for these constitutive equations were determined
Impact of OKT3 therapy on cytomegalovirus and herpes simplex virus infections after liver transplantation
The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of OKT3 on the frequency and severity of CMV and herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections in adult liver transplant recipients. OKT3 treatment is associated with a higher risk of disseminated CMV infection, particularly in patients with primary CMV infection. It also increased the frequency of symptomatic HSV infection in HSV-seropositive liver transplant recipients
Nuclear star formation on 100 parsec scales: 10" resolution radio continuum, HI and CO observations
A program of radio line and continuum studies of star formation in nearby spiral galaxies is reported. The objective is a search for hot gas and peculiar dynamics in spiral nuclei with 10" to 30" angular resolution. Vigorous star formation is found to be a common phenomenon in the inner kpc of spirals. Arcsecond resolution observations of radio continuum emission at 6 and 2 cm were used to separate the thermal and nonthermal radio components. It was found that thermal and nonthermal emission are well mixed even on sizescales of 10 pc. To understand the reason for the increased level of star formation activity in spiral nuclei, HI and CO emission in these galaxies is studied. The CO transition was detected in M51, M82, NGC 253, NGC 6946 and IC 342 with T sub a approx. 0.5 to 2.0 K, at 20" angular resolution. The dynamics and spatial distribution of nuclear gas are being studied using VLA HI maps with 30" synthesized beams. Evidence for noncircular motions in HI was found in the nucleus of IC 342
Fungal infections after liver transplantation
The risk factors for development of invasive fungal infections after liver transplantation were (1) longer duration of treatment with nonprophylactic IV antibiotics, (2) longer cumulative surgical time and a higher number of laparotomies, (3) an increased number of units of RBCs and fresh-frozen plasma, and (4) a series of pretransplant laboratory findings: thrombocytopenia, low T lymphocyte levels, low CD4 helper cell and lower helper/suppressor cell ratios and IgA serum levels. The significance of some of these findings is still unclear. Attention to the risk factors outlined earlier may aid both in preventing and in the early detection of invasive fungal infections after liver transplantation
Quantum Hall Ferromagnets
It is pointed out recently that the quantum Hall states in bilayer
systems behave like easy plane quantum ferromagnets. We study the
magnetotransport of these systems using their ``ferromagnetic" properties and a
novel spin-charge relation of their excitations. The general transport is a
combination of the ususal Hall transport and a time dependent transport with
time average. The latter is due to a phase slippage process in
and is characterized by two topological constants. (Figures will be
provided upon requests).Comment: 4 pages, Revtex, Ohio State Universit
Fermion Superfluids of Non-Zero Orbital Angular Momentum near Resonance
We study the pairing of Fermi gases near the scattering resonance of the
partial wave. Using a model potential which reproduces the actual
two-body low energy scattering amplitude, we have obtained an analytic solution
of the gap equation. We show that the ground state of and
superfluid are orbital ferromagnets with pairing wavefunctions and
respectively. For , there is a degeneracy between and
a "cyclic state". Dipole energy will orient the angular momentum axis. The gap
function can be determined by the angular dependence of the momentum
distribution of the fermions.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur
Discovery of Radio Emission from the Tight M8 Binary: LP 349-25
We present radio observations of 8 ultracool dwarfs with a narrow spectral
type range (M8-M9.5) using the Very Large Array at 8.5 GHz. Only the tight M8
binary LP 349-25 was detected. LP 349-25 is the tenth ultracool dwarf system
detected in radio and its trigonometric parallax pi = 67.6 mas, recently
measured by Gatewood et al., makes it the furthest ultracool system detected by
the Very Large Array to date, and the most radio-luminous outside of obvious
flaring activity or variability. With a separation of only 1.8 AU, masses of
the components of LP 349-25 can be measured precisely without any theoretical
assumptions (Forveille et al.), allowing us to clarify their fully-convective
status and hence the kind of magnetic dynamo in these components which may play
an important role to explain our detection of radio emission from these
objects. This also makes LP 349-25 an excellent target for further studies with
better constraints on the correlations between X-ray, radio emission and
stellar parameters such as mass, age, temperature, and luminosity in ultracool
dwarfs.Comment: accepted by ApJ, referee's comments included, typo in equation 1

SMA observations of the proto brown dwarf candidate SSTB213 J041757
Context. The previously identified source SSTB213 J041757 is a proto brown
dwarf candidate in Taurus, which has two possible components A and B. It was
found that component B is probably a class 0/I proto brown dwarf associated
with an extended envelope.
Aims. Studying molecular outflows from young brown dwarfs provides important
insight into brown dwarf formation mechanisms, particularly brown dwarfs at the
earliest stages such as class 0, I. We therefore conducted a search for
molecular outflows from SSTB213 J041757.
Methods. We observed SSTB213 J041757 with the Submillimeter Array to search
for CO molecular outflow emission from the source.
Results. Our CO maps do not show any outflow emission from the proto brown
dwarf candidate.
Conclusions. The non-detection implies that the molecular outflows from the
source are weak; deeper observations are therefore needed to probe the outflows
from the source.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in A&
Infections with cytomegalovirus and other herpesviruses in 121 liver transplant recipients: Transmission by donated organ and the effect of OKT3 antibodies
One hundred twenty-one adult liver transplant recipients were studied for the incidence, risk factors, and morbidity associated with herpesviruses infections after transplantation. The overall incidence of infection was 59% for cytomegalovirus (CMV), 35% for herpes simplex virus (HSV), 25% for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), and 7% for varicella-zoster virus (VZV). Primary CMV infection occurred in 46% and reactivation CMV infection in 67% of the susceptible recipients. Symptomatic and disseminated CMV diseases were more common when patients developed primary infection (P .10). Although most HSV infections were oral or genital reactivations, three cases of HSV hepatitis occurred - one was primary infection. Symptomatic reactivations of HSV were observed in 53% of HSV-seropositive recipients who received OKT3, versus 31% of seropositive recipients who did not receive OKT3 (P = .05)
