    Abstract: The aim of the presented paper is to indicate the role of education with regard to the concept of active ageing as a phenomenon which is stimulating and determining sustainable development. The presented deliberations are mainly of theoretical character, extended with literature of the subject and statistical studies. The main conclusion coming from the paper is the conviction that systemic and long-term education is an opportunity and guarantee of active ageing, it favours the social inclusion of an individual and conditions the implementation of sustainable development
