    Status Report of Neutral Kaon photo-production study using Neutral Kaon Spectrometer 2 (NKS2) at LNS-Tohoku(I. Nuclear Physics)

    The approach described in this paper uses an array of Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) devices to implement a fault tolerant hardware system that can be compared to the running of fault tolerant software on a traditional processor. Fault tolerance is achieved is achieved by using FPGA with on the fly partial programmability feature. Major considerations while mapping to the FPGA includes the size of the area to be mapped and communication issues related to their communication. Area size selection is compared to the page size selection in Operating System Design. Communication issues between modules are compared to the software engineering paradigms dealing with module coupling, fan-in, fan-out and cohesiveness. Finally, the overhead associated with the downloading of the reconfiguration files is discussed

    学生の授業経験・学習態度や能力・知識の獲得状況からみたA大学における看護教育の現状 : 2017年度IRコンソーシアム標準調査から

    A大学では,大学IRコンソーシアムの正会員となり,ベンチマーク可能な標準調査として位置づけられた学生生活調査を全学生に行い,教学IR(Institutional Research)の取組を推進している。今回の目的は、学生の授業経験・学習態度や能力・知識の獲得状況からA大学における看護教育の現状を明らかにすることを目的とした。また,その結果をIRコンソーシアムの基礎集計結果と比較し,A大学の特徴について検討する。回答のあった307票(協力率91.4%)について分析した結果,A大学看護学科の現状や大学IRコンソーシアム結果の比較から,次のことが特徴と考えられた。■全ての学年で主体的に学び,看護に役立つ知識やスキルを学ぶ授業を経験している。■ TAやSAの活用は難しい現状にあるが,教員が添削やコメントなど丁寧な授業運営を行っている。■授業態度は悪くはないが,各学年に一定程度の欠席,遅刻,居眠りはある。■能力・知識の多くを学年進行に伴って獲得しているが,外国語や数理的な能力・知識は増えていない。■授業態度が良く,能力・知識が増えた者は成績順位上位者である。我が国においては,看護教育の質評価・質保証に必要な資源(人・設備・費用)等,これから体制整備がされていく状況にあるが,IR機能に着目し,教育の質を客観的に保証するとともに,更なる教育改善の方策を見出すことが重要である

    Importance of modifiable non-radiographic functional parameters for adult spinal deformity

    Abstract We clarified non-radiographic physical parameters associated with the severity of adult spinal deformity (ASD) using community-dwelling adult volunteers. They were subjected to upright entire spine radiographs for standard radiographic parameters and the number of sagittal modifiers of SRS-Schwab ASD classification (Schwab-SM). Clinical evaluations included isometric muscle strength of trunk extensor (TEX), trunk flexor (TFL), quadriceps femoris (QF), gluteus maximus, and iliopsoas; range of motion (ROM) of hip, knee, ankle, and active back extension (BET); SF36 physical component score (PCS), VAS for back and knee pain, and the degree of ambulatory kyphosis (dTIA). Each muscle strength was calibrated by body weight (BW) and expressed as BW ratio. According to our previous study, dTIA ≥ 7.6° was defined as pathological and dTIA ≤ 3.5° as normal. A final total of 409 female volunteers were included, and their demographics were; age 67.0 ± 5.5 years, Schwab-SM 2.1 ± 1.8, TEX 0.90 ± 0.33BW, TFL 0.48 ± 0.15BW, QF 0.45 ± 0.19BW, PCS 33.5 ± 6.5. Subjects were classified as clinical ASD group (cASD, n = 10) with PCS ≤ 27(mean-1SD) and pathological dTIA, robust group (n = 19) with PCS ≥ 40 (mean + 1SD) and normal dTIA, and the rest (non-cASD, n = 338). Statistical analyses showed significant differences in TEX, TFL, QF, knee extension (KEX), and BET between robust and cASD, and the mean values of robust group (TEX ≥ 1.1BW, TFL ≥ 0.5BW, QF ≥ 0.5BW, KEX ≥ 0° and BET ≥ 14 cm) were used as ‘ASD-MJ’ index. Subjects with fully achieving ASD-MJ goals showed significantly better radiographic and clinical outcomes than those with unmet goals. In conclusion, upon prescribing conservative or physical therapies for ASD patients, modifiable clinical goals should be clarified, and ASD-MJ could be a benchmark

    Application of monochromatic keV X-ray source to X-ray drug delivery system

    X-ray Drug Delivery System (DDS) enhances accumulation of anti-cancer drug or contrast agent by surrounding it with polymer and Enhanced Penetration and Retention (EPR) effect. DDS uses advanced nano-scaled polymers that contain and deliver drug or contrast agent to cancers without side effects. Several X-ray DDSs pose high-Z atoms such as gold to absorb X-rays effectively and used as contrast agent for inspection. Moreover, they have radiation enhancement effect by emission of Auger electron and successive characteristic X-rays. The enhancement factor of gold is more than five. This could be used even for therapy. This new modality must be very important for inspection and therapy of deep cancers. We are making use of our X-band Compton scattering monochromatic keV X-ray source for the inspection. Numerical simulation on monochromatic X-ray CT for possible concentration of gold-colloid DDS considering the X-ray property from the source was done. Enough visibility was confirmed. Furthermore, in vitro experiment analyzed its toxic effect to cells by the Alkaline comet assay and fluorescent immunostaining method for single and double strand breaks of DNA. Availability of clear imaging for the inspection has been confirmed by the numerical simulation and the in-vitro evaluation of the therapy effect is under way. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V.     Magnetic property modification by heavy ion irradiation to lutetium-iron garnet

    Swift ion-beam irradiation affects physical properties of materials through radiation damages. In garnet ferrites, one of the best materials for magneto-optics, a heavy ion-beam creates a non-magnetic amorphous defect along the beam track. Because the ion beam track is small enough to light wavelength, control of magnetic properties by ion-beam irradiation will be utilized to fabricate functional magneto-optical devices. In this work, we investigated the radiation effects of bismuth doped lutetium-iron garnet using the tandem accelerator in the JAEA Tokai laboratory, and measured their magnetization hysteresis curves.
