    Ca II K Spectral Study of an Emerging Flux Region using Domeless Solar Telescope in Hida Observatory

    A cooperative observation with Hida observatory and Hinode satellite was performed on an emerging flux region. The successive Ca II K spectro-heliograms of the emerging flux region were taken by the Domeless Solar Telescope of Hida observatory. Hinode observed the emerging flux region with Ca II H and Fe I Stokes IQUV filtergrams. In this study, detailed dynamics and temporal evolution of the magnetic flux emergence was studied observationally. The event was first detected in the photospheric magnetic field signals. 3 minutes later, the horizontal expansion of the dark area was detected. And then, 7 minutes later than the horizontal expansion, the emerging loops were detected with the maximal rise speed of 2.1 km/s at chromospheric heights. The observed dynamics of emerging magnetic flux from the photosphere to the upper chromosphere is well consistent with the results of previous simulation works. The gradual rising phase of flux tubes with a weak magnetic strength was confirmed by our observation.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figure

    Robot-Assisted Total Hysterectomy of Extremely Unusual Pelvic Anatomy: A Case Report and Literature Review

    We report a case of robot-assisted total hysterectomy in a patient with extremely rare pelvic anatomy. Robot-assisted total laparoscopic hysterectomy was performed for lobular endocervical glandular hyperplasia on the left side of the uterus. The sigmoid colon was present between the two uterine corpora of a uterine didelphys and was attached to the bladder via the mesentery and fat. During surgery, the surgeon left the console and confirmed the magnetic resonance images. The surgery was then completed safely after the surgeon understood the anatomy. The postoperative condition was good, and the patient was discharged on postoperative day 5. Robot-assisted surgery has various advantages, including a good field of view, accuracy of instrument movement, and ease of viewing information in the medical record by pausing the operation. Robot assisted surgery improves not only safety and operational precision but also intraoperative convenience. Further studies are needed regarding the specific anatomy seen in this case

    Comparison of Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy with Abdominal Total Hysterectomy in Patients with Benign Disease: A Retrospective Cohort Study

    Background: The present study aimed to determine whether total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) is being implemented safely and appropriately compared with abdominal total hysterectomy (ATH) in our hospital. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed clinical records of 102 patients who underwent total hysterectomy for benign gynecological disease at Japanese Red Cross Yamaguchi Hospital from January 2017 to August 2018. We examined periods of hospital stay, operation time, blood loss, weight of the uterus, frequency of perioperative complications, and the duration from the first visit to the date of surgery. P < 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant indicated statistical significance. Results: TLH and ATH were performed in 55 (53%) and 47 (46%) cases, respectively. The TLH group had significantly longer total operation time [133 (82-205) min vs. 87 (57-155) min, P < 0.0001], lesser blood loss [5 (5-35) g vs. 100 (10-820) g, P < 0.0001], shorter hospital stay [7 (5-14) days vs. 10 (9-26) days, P < 0.0001], and lighter uterine weight [206 (27-658) g vs. 554 (79-2284) g, P < 0.0001] than the ATH group. The frequency of perioperative complications did not differ between the two groups (3.5% vs. 8.0%, P = 0.4103). Conclusion: TLH had a longer operation time and a lesser excised uterine weight, but it had less intraoperative blood loss, shorter hospital stay, and no difference in perioperative complication frequency when compared with ATH

    Solution structure and dynamics of mouse ARMET

    AbstractARMET is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-inducible protein that is required for maintaining cell viability under ER stress conditions. However, the exact molecular mechanisms by which ARMET protects cells are unknown. Here, we have analyzed the solution structure of ARMET. ARMET has an entirely α-helical structure, which is composed of two distinct domains. Positive charges are dispersed on the surfaces of both domains and across a linker structure. Trypsin digestion and 15N relaxation experiments indicate that the tumbling of the N-terminal and C-terminal domains is effectively independent. These results suggest that ARMET may hold a negatively charged molecule using the two positively charged domains

    A Chinese Herbal Medicine, Tokishakuyakusan, Reduces the Worsening of Impairments and Independence after Stroke: A 1-Year Randomized, Controlled Trial

    In post-stroke patients, the recurrence of stroke and progression of impairments lead to a bedridden state and dementia. As for their treatments, only anti-hypertension and anti-coagulation therapies to prevent the recurrence of stroke are available. In Asia, post-stroke patients with impairments are often treated with herbal medicine. The present study evaluated the effectiveness of tokishakuyakusan (TS) in improving the impairment and independence in post-stroke patients. Thirty-one post-stroke patients (mean age = 81.4 years) were recruited and enrolled. Participants were randomly assigned to the TS group (n = 16) or non-treatment (control) group (n = 15) and treated for 12 months. Impairments were assessed using the Stroke Impairment Assessment Set (SIAS). Independence was evaluated using the functional independence measure (FIM). For each outcome measure, mean change was calculated every 3 months. The results were that impairments according to SIAS did not significantly change in the TS group. In contrast, SIAS significantly worsened in the control group. There was a significant difference between the two groups. In each term of SIAS, affected lower extremity scores, abdominal muscle strength, function of visuospatial perception, and so forth. in the TS group were better than those in the control group. Independence according to FIM did not change significantly in the TS group. In contrast, FIM significantly worsened in the control group. There was also a significant difference between the two groups. In conclusion, TS was considered to suppress the impairments of lower limbs and to exert a favorable effect on cerebral function for post-stroke patients

    Changes in the Collagen Binding Property of Human Plasma Fibronectin with Aging

    We investigated changes in quality of plasma fibronectin with aging, especially in the interaction of fibronectin with collagen, using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. When fibronectin isolated from the plasma of young people was compared with that from old people, the latter was found to bind poorly to gelatin, Type I and Type III collagens. No differences in molecular weight were detected between the two types of fibronectin by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis
