NACA Research Memorandums
Memorandum presenting the viscosities of slurries containing 50 to 65 percent by weight of boron in JP-5 fuel at temperatures from 30 to 80 degrees Celsius and of slurries containing 50 percent by weight of magnesium in JP-5 fuel from -40 to 80 degrees Celsius. Plastic viscosities of the boron slurries decreased consistently with an increase in temperature. Results regarding boron slurries and magnesium slurries are provided

NACA Restricted Bulletins
Bulletin discusses a method to estimate aromatic hydrocarbons in hydrocarbon mixtures, which is important for determining the percentage of aromatics in fuel blends. The method was tested with nine base stocks at several levels of aromatics concentration and the maximum level of error was found to be about 0.5 percent. The speed and simplicity of the testing is emphasized

"Eighty pounds of butylsilanes required for test purposes was synthesized by reducing butyltrichlorosilane with lithium aluminum hydride in dioxane solution. This was safely and successfully accomplished by operating in steel equipment under an atmosphere of oil-pumped nitrogen to minimize the hazards involved in conducting this operation on a large scale. The apparatus and procedure used to carry out the necessary manipulations are described in this report" (p. 1)

From Summary: "The infrared spectra are presented for 47 dicyclic hydrocarbons consisting of some alkyldiphenylmethanes, alkyldicyclohexylmethanes, alkylnaphthalenes, alkyltetralins, 1,3-diphenyl-2-alkylpropanes and 1,3-dicyclohexyl-2-alkylpropanes. The physical properties of these highly purified compounds are included for reference purposes.
