    Lepton Flavor Violation at the LHC

    Recent results from Super Kamiokande suggest ΜΌ−Μτ\nu_\mu-\nu_\tau mixing and hence lepton flavor violation. In supersymmetric models, this flavor violation may have implications for the pattern of slepton masses and mixings. Possible signals for this mixing in the decays of sleptons produced at the LHC are discussed. The sensitivity expected is compared to that of rare decays such as Ï„â†’ÎŒÎł\tau\to \mu\gamma.Comment: 14 pages, 9 figure

    We present an example of a scenario of particle production and decay in supersymmetry models in which the supersymmetry breaking is transmitted to the observable world via gravitational interactions. The case is chosen so that there is a large production of tau leptons in the final state. It is characteristic of large tan beta in that decays into muons and electrons may be suppressed. It is shown that hadronic tau decays can be used to reconstruct final states.Comment: 15 pages, 12 figure

    Test of lepton flavour violation at LHC

    We study lepton flavour violating decays of neutralinos and sleptons within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, assuming two and three generation mixings in the slepton sector. We take into account the most recent bounds on flavour violating rare lepton decays. Taking the SPS1a' scenario as an example, we show that some of the lepton flavour violating branching ratios of neutralinos and sleptons can be sizable (~ 5-10%). We study the impact of the lepton flavour violating neutralino and slepton decays on the di-lepton mass distributions measured at LHC. We find that they can result in novel and characteristic edge structures in the distributions. In particular, double-edge structures can appear in the e tau and mu tau mass spectra if ~tau_1 is the lightest slepton. The appearance of these remarkable structures provides a powerful test of supersymmetric lepton flavour violation at LHC.Comment: 15 page

    Field Theory in Noncommutative Minkowski Superspace

    There is much discussion of scenarios where the space-time coordinates x^\mu are noncommutative. The discussion has been extended to include nontrivial anticommutation relations among spinor coordinates in superspace. A number of authors have studied field theoretical consequences of the deformation of N=1 superspace arising from nonanticommutativity of coordinates \theta, while leaving \bar{theta}'s anticommuting. This is possible in Euclidean superspace only. In this note we present a way to extend the discussion by making both \theta and \bar{theta} coordinates non-anticommuting in Minkowski superspace. We present a consistent algebra for the supercoordinates, find a star-product, and give the Wess-Zumino Lagrangian L_{WZ} within our model. It has two extra terms due to non(anti)commutativity. The Lagrangian in Minkowski superspace is always manifestly Hermitian and for L_{WZ} it preserves Lorentz invariance.Comment: 8 pages, added references, two-column format, published in PR

Available on open access from Wiley via the DOI in this recordData availability statement: The research data supporting this publication are provided within this paper.Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing threat to global public health, and the overuse of antibiotics in animals has been identified as a major risk factor. With high levels of international trade and direct connectivity to the aquatic environment, shrimp aquaculture may play a role in global AMR dissemination. The vast majority of shrimp production occurs in low- and middle-income countries, where antibiotic quality and usage is widely unregulated, and where the integration of aquaculture with family livelihoods offers many opportunities for human, animal and environmental bacteria to come into close contact. Furthermore, in shrimp growing areas, untreated waste is often directly eliminated into local water sources. These risks are very different to many other major internationally-traded aquaculture commodities, such as salmon, which is produced in higher income countries where there are greater levels of regulation and well-established management practices. Assessing the true scale of the risk of AMR dissemination in the shrimp industry is a considerable challenge, not least because obtaining reliable data on antibiotic usage is very difficult. Combating the risks associated with AMR dissemination is also challenging due to the increasing trend towards intensification and its associated disease burden, and because many farmers currently have no alternatives to antibiotics for preventing crop failure. In this review, we critically assess the potential risks the shrimp industry poses to AMR dissemination.
