Comment on `Glassy Transition in a Disordered Model for the RNA Secondary Structure'
In cond-mat/9907125 the low-temperature behavior of a model for RNA secondary
structure was studied. It is claimed that the model exhibits a breaking of the
replica symmetry, since the width of the distribution P(q) of overlaps may
converge to a finite value at T=0. The authors used an exact enumeration method
to obtain all ground states for a given RNA sequence. Because of the
exponential growing degeneracy, only sequences up to length L=256 could be
studied.
Here it is shown that, in contrast to the previous results, by going to much
larger sizes as L=2000 the variance coverges towards zero, i.e. P(q) is a
delta-function in the thermodynamic limit.Comment: completely rewritten, comment to cond-mat/9907125 (PRL 84, 2026

Application of remote sensing to state and regional problems
The author has identified the following significant results. The Lowndes County data base is essentially complete with 18 primary variables and 16 proximity variables encoded into the geo-information system. The single purpose, decision tree classifier is now operational. Signatures for the thematic extraction of strip mines from LANDSAT Digital data were obtained by employing both supervised and nonsupervised procedures. Dry, blowing sand areas of beach were also identified from the LANDSAT data. The primary procedure was the analysis of analog data on the I2S signal slicer

RNA secondary structure formation: a solvable model of heteropolymer folding
The statistical mechanics of heteropolymer structure formation is studied in
the context of RNA secondary structures. A designed RNA sequence biased
energetically towards a particular native structure (a hairpin) is used to
study the transition between the native and molten phase of the RNA as a
function of temperature. The transition is driven by a competition between the
energy gained from the polymer's overlap with the native structure and the
entropic gain of forming random contacts. A simplified Go-like model is
proposed and solved exactly. The predicted critical behavior is verified via
exact numerical enumeration of a large ensemble of similarly designed
sequences.Comment: 4 pages including 2 figure
Resilience of the Spectral Standard Model
We show that the inconsistency between the spectral Standard Model and the
experimental value of the Higgs mass is resolved by the presence of a real
scalar field strongly coupled to the Higgs field. This scalar field was already
present in the spectral model and we wrongly neglected it in our previous
computations. It was shown recently by several authors, independently of the
spectral approach, that such a strongly coupled scalar field stabilizes the
Standard Model up to unification scale in spite of the low value of the Higgs
mass. In this letter we show that the noncommutative neutral singlet modifies
substantially the RG analysis, invalidates our previous prediction of Higgs
mass in the range 160--180 Gev, and restores the consistency of the
noncommutative geometric model with the low Higgs mass.Comment: 13 pages, more contours added to Higgs mass plot, one reference adde
Glassy transition in a disordered model for the RNA secondary structure
We numerically study a disordered model for the RNA secondary structure and
we find that it undergoes a phase transition, with a breaking of the replica
symmetry in the low temperature region (like in spin glasses). Our results are
based on the exact evaluation of the partition function.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
