Invasive Lobular Carcinomas Do Not Express Basal Cytokeratin Markers CK5/6, CK14 and CK17
The expression of basal cytokeratin markers CK5/6 in breast carcinomas has been associated with high histological grade and poor clinical outcome. A previous study has shown that CK5/6 can be detected in up to 17% of invasive lobular carcinomas (ILC). Here we study the expression of three basal cytokeratin markers (CK5/6, CK14, and CK17) in 53 ILC cases diagnosed by histology and lack of E-cadherin expression. Among them, 42 were classic lobular carcinomas, 6 were tubular-lobular carcinoma, and 5 were pleomorphic lobular carcinomas. There was no significant difference among these three groups in patients’ age, tumor size, uni- and multi-focality, expression of ER and PR, lymphovascular invasion, perineural invasion and lymph node metastasis. The only statistically different factor was HER2 over-expression, which was observed only in pleomorphic ILC (P = 0.0073). None of the 53 cases expressed CK5/6, CK14 or CK17; and 51/53 cases expressed luminal markers CK8 and CK18, and the two negative cases were both classic lobular carcinoma, with positivity for ER and PR. In conclusion, all 53 cases of ILC failed to show expression by any of the three basal CK markers, suggesting that very few ILC will demonstrate a basal phenotype when assessed by immunohistochemistry (IHC). A z=0.9 supercluster of X-ray luminous, optically-selected, massive galaxy clusters
We report the discovery of a compact supercluster structure at z=0.9. The
structure comprises three optically-selected clusters, all of which are
detected in X-rays and spectroscopically confirmed to lie at the same redshift.
The Chandra X-ray temperatures imply individual masses of ~5x10^14 Msun. The
X-ray masses are consistent with those inferred from optical--X-ray scaling
relations established at lower redshift. A strongly-lensed z~4 Lyman break
galaxy behind one of the clusters allows a strong-lensing mass to be estimated
for this cluster, which is in good agreement with the X-ray measurement.
Optical spectroscopy of this cluster gives a dynamical mass in good agreement
with the other independent mass estimates. The three components of the
RCS2319+00 supercluster are separated from their nearest neighbor by a mere <3
Mpc in the plane of the sky and likely <10 Mpc along the line-of-sight, and we
interpret this structure as the high-redshift antecedent of massive (~10^15
Msun) z~0.5 clusters such as MS0451.5-0305.Comment: ApJ Letters accepted. 5 pages in emulateapj, 3 figure
The X-ray Properties of Optically Selected Clusters of Galaxies
We present the results of Chandra and Suzaku X-ray observations of nine
moderate-redshift (0.16 < z < 0.42) clusters discovered via the Red-sequence
Cluster Survey (RCS). Surface brightness profiles are fitted to beta models,
gas masses are determined, integrated spectra are extracted within R2500, and
X-ray temperatures and luminosities are inferred. The Lx-Tx relationship
expected from self-similar evolution is tested by comparing this sample to our
previous X-ray investigation of nine high-redshift (0.6 < z < 1.0) optically
selected clusters. We find that optically selected clusters are systematically
less luminous than X-ray selected clusters of similar X-ray temperature at both
moderate and high-z. We are unable to constrain evolution in the Lx-Tx relation
with these data, but find it consistent with no evolution, within relatively
large uncertainties. To investigate selection effects, we compare the X-ray
properties of our sample to those of clusters in the representative X-ray
selected REXCESS sample, also determined within R2500. We find that while RCS
cluster X-ray properties span the entire range of those of massive clusters
selected by other methods, their average X-ray properties are most similar to
those of dynamically disturbed X-ray selected clusters. This similarity
suggests that the true cluster distribution might contain a higher fraction of
disturbed objects than are typically detected in X-ray selected surveys.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures; accepted for publication in MNRAS. Figure

Field Theory for a Deuteron Quantum Liquid
Based on general symmetry principles we study an effective Lagrangian for a
neutral system of condensed spin-1 deuteron nuclei and electrons, at
greater-than-atomic but less-than-nuclear densities. We expect such matter to
be present in thin layers within certain low-mass brown dwarfs. It may also be
produced in future shock-wave-compression experiments as an effective fuel for
laser induced nuclear fusion. We find a background solution of the effective
theory describing a net spin zero condensate of deuterons with their spins
aligned and anti-aligned in a certain spontaneously emerged preferred
direction. The spectrum of low energy collective excitations contains two spin
waves with linear dispersions -- like in antiferromagnets -- as well as gapped
longitudinal and transverse modes related to the Meissner effect -- like in
superconductors. We show that counting of the Nambu-Goldstone modes of
spontaneously broken internal and space-time symmetries obeys, in a nontrivial
way, the rules of the Goldstone theorem for Lorentz non-invariant systems. We
discuss thermodynamic properties of the condensate, and its potential

The expression of TRMT2A, a novel cell cycle regulated protein, identifies a subset of breast cancer patients with HER2 over-expression that are at an increased risk of recurrence
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Over-expression of <it>HER2 </it>in a subset of breast cancers (<it>HER2</it>+) is associated with high histological grade and aggressive clinical course. Despite these distinctive features, the differences in response of <it>HER2</it>+ patients to both adjuvant cytotoxic chemotherapy and targeted therapy (e.g. trastuzumab) suggests that unrecognized biologic and clinical diversity is confounding treatment strategies. Furthermore, the small but established risk of cardiac morbidity with trastuzumab therapy compels efforts towards the identification of biomarkers that might help stratify patients.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>A single institution tissue array cohort assembled at the Clearview Cancer Institute of Huntsville (CCIH) was screened by immunohistochemistry staining using a large number of novel and commercially available antibodies to identify those with a univariate association with clinical outcome in <it>HER2</it>+ patients. Staining with antibody directed at TRMT2A was found to be strongly associated with outcome in <it>HER2</it>+ patients. This association with outcome was tested in two independent validation cohorts; an existing staining dataset derived from tissue assembled at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF), and in a new retrospective study performed by staining archived paraffin blocks available at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI).</p> <p>Results</p> <p>TRMT2A staining showed a strong correlation with likelihood of recurrence at five years in 67 <it>HER2</it>+ patients from the CCIH discovery cohort (HR 7.0; 95% CI 2.4 to 20.1, p < 0.0004). This association with outcome was confirmed using 75 <it>HER2</it>+ patients from the CCF cohort (HR 3.6; 95% CI 1.3 to 10.2, p < 0.02) and 64 patients from the RPCI cohort (HR 3.4; 95% CI 1.3-8.9, p < 0.02). In bivariable analysis the association with outcome was independent of grade, tumor size, nodal status and the administration of conventional adjuvant chemotherapy in the CCIH and RPCI cohorts.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Studies from three independent single institution cohorts support TRMT2A protein expression as a biomarker of increased risk of recurrence in <it>HER2+ </it>breast cancer patients. These results suggest that TRMT2A expression should be further studied in the clinical trial setting to explore its predictive power for response to adjuvant cytotoxic chemotherapy in combination with <it>HER2 </it>targeted therapy.</p
Si-compatible candidates for high-K dielectrics with the Pbnm perovskite structure
We analyze both experimentally (where possible) and theoretically from
first-principles the dielectric tensor components and crystal structure of five
classes of Pbnm perovskites. All of these materials are believed to be stable
on silicon and are therefore promising candidates for high-K dielectrics. We
also analyze the structure of these materials with various simple models,
decompose the lattice contribution to the dielectric tensor into force constant
matrix eigenmode contributions, explore a peculiar correlation between
structural and dielectric anisotropies in these compounds and give phonon
frequencies and infrared activities of those modes that are infrared-active. We
find that CaZrO_3, SrZrO_3, LaHoO_3, and LaYO_3 are among the most promising
candidates for high-K dielectrics among the compounds we considered.Comment: 17 pages, 9 figures, 4 tables. Supplementary information:

Liquidity and the drivers of search, due diligence and transaction times for UK commercial real estate investments
Trading commercial real estate involves a process of exchange that is costly and which occurs over an extended and uncertain period of time. This has consequences for the performance and risk of real estate investments. Most research on transaction times has occurred for residential rather than commercial real estate. We study the time taken to transact commercial real estate assets in the UK using a sample of 578 transactions over the period 2004 to 2013. We measure average time to transact from a buyer and seller perspective, distinguishing the search and due diligence phases of the process, and we conduct econometric analysis to explain variation in due diligence times between assets. The median time for purchase of real estate from introduction to completion was 104 days and the median time for sale from marketing to completion was 135 days. There is considerable variation around these times and results suggest that some of this variation is related to market state, type and quality of asset, and type of participants involved in the transaction. Our findings shed light on the drivers of liquidity at an individual asset level and can inform models that quantify the impact of uncertain time on market on real estate investment risk
