Localization of gravity in brane world with arbitrary extra dimensions

We study the induced 4-dimensional linearized Einstein field equations in an m-dimensional bulk space by means of a confining potential. It is shown that in this approach the mass of graviton is quantized. The cosmological constant problem is also addressed within the context of this approach. We show that the difference between the values of the cosmological constant in particle physics and cosmology stems from our measurements in two different scales, small and large.Comment: 8 pages. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:gr-qc/0408004, arXiv:gr-qc/0607067, arXiv:0704.1035, arXiv:0707.3558, arXiv:0710.266

Background: Tocotrienols have been shown to improve glycemic control and redox balance in an animal study, but their effects on patients with diabetes are unknown. The study aimed to investigate whether tocotrienols improves glycemic control, insulin sensitivity, and oxidative stress in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Materials and Methods: This study was a double-blinded, placebo-controlled, randomized trial. A total of 50 patients, aged 35-60 years, with T2DM treated by noninsulin hypoglycemic drugs were randomly assigned to receive either 15 mL/day tocotrienols (200 mg) enriched canola oil (n = 25) or pure canola oil (n = 25) for 8 weeks. Fasting blood sugar (FBS), fasting insulin, total antioxidant capacity (TAC), malondialdehyde (MDA), and homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) were determined before and after the intervention. The data were compared between and within groups, before and after the intervention. Results: Baseline characteristics of participants including age, sex, physical activity, disease duration, and type of drug consumption were not significantly different between the two groups. In tocotrienol enriched canola oil, FBS (mean percent change: 15.4 vs. 3.9; P = 0.006) and MDA (median percent change: 35.6 vs. 16.3; P = 0.003) were significantly reduced while TAC was significantly increased (median percent change: 21.4 vs. 2.3; P = 0.001) compared to pure canola oil. At the end of the study, patients who treated with tocotrienols had lower FBS (P = 0.023) and MDA (P = 0.044) compared to the pure canola oil group. However, tocotrienols had no effect on insulin concentrations and HOMA-IR. Conclusion: Tocotrienols can improve FBS concentrations and modifies redox balance in T2DM patients with poor glycemic control and can be considered in combination with hypoglycemic drugs to better control of T2DM. © 2015 Journal of Research in Medical Sciences

Beneficial effects of whey protein preloads on some cardiovascular diseases risk factors of overweight and obese men are stronger than soy protein preloads - A randomized clinical trial

Background The hypothesis that long term supplemental preloads of whey protein concentrate (WPC) and soy protein isolate (SPI) 30 min before the largest meal, will improve blood pressure (BP), fasting blood sugar (FBS) and lipid profile of overweight and obese men in their in free living condition was tested. Methods Forty - five men of 52, BMI = 25-40 kg/m2, after random allocation in WPC (n = 26) or SPI (n = 19) groups, drank 65 gr WPC or 60 gr SPI dissolved in 500 ml water 30 min before their ad libitum lunch for 12 weeks. Lipid profile and FBS were assessed before and after the study. Systolic and diastolic BP were measured before and after the study and every two weeks. Results After 12 weeks, mean changes between the groups were significant for SBP (p < 0.02), DBP (p = 0.001), apo A-I, apo B (p < 0.001), LDL (p = 0.015), HDL (p = 0.017). Within group mean changes of WPC were significant for reduction of DBP, FBS, apo B, VLDL, LDL, TG (p < 0.001), SBP, TC (p = 0.001), and for increase of apo A-I (p < 0.001) and HDL (p = 0.001) relative to baseline. In SPI group, mean changes were significant relative to baseline for decrease of SBP (p < 0.02), DBP (p = 0.001), apo B (p < 0.001), LDL (p = 0.015) and for increase of apo A-I (p < 0.001) and HDL (p = 0.017). Conclusion According to this study, WPC preloads at 30 min before ad libitum main meal, exert stronger beneficial effects than SPI preloads on BP, FBS and lipid profile of free living overweight and obese men after 12 weeks. Concurrence classes for general pure multipartite states

We propose concurrence classes for general pure multipartite states based on an orthogonal complement of a positive operator valued measure on quantum phase. In particular, we construct WmW^{m} class, GHZmGHZ^{m}, and GHZm1GHZ^{m-1} class concurrences for general pure mm-partite states. We give explicit expressions for W3W^{3} and GHZ3GHZ^{3} class concurrences for general pure three-partite states and for W4W^{4}, GHZ4GHZ^{4}, and GHZ3GHZ^{3} class concurrences for general pure four-partite states.Comment: 14 page

Spitzer IRAC Observations of Star Formation in N159 in the LMC

We present observations of the giant HII region complex N159 in the LMC using IRAC on the {\it Spitzer Space Telescope}. One of the two objects previously identified as protostars in N159 has an SED consistent with classification as a Class I young stellar object (YSO) and the other is probably a Class I YSO as well, making these two stars the youngest stars known outside the Milky Way. We identify two other sources that may also be Class I YSOs. One component, N159AN, is completely hidden at optical wavelengths, but is very prominent in the infrared. The integrated luminosity of the entire complex is L 9×106\approx 9\times10^6L_{\odot}, consistent with the observed radio emission assuming a normal Galactic initial mass function (IMF). There is no evidence for a red supergiant population indicative of an older burst of star formation. The N159 complex is 50 pc in diameter, larger in physical size than typical HII regions in the Milky Way with comparable luminosity. We argue that all of the individual components are related in their star formation history. The morphology of the region is consistent with a wind blown bubble $\approx 1-2Myr-old that has initiated star formation now taking place at the rim. Other than its large physical size, star formation in N159 appears to be indistinguishable from star formation in the Milky Way.Comment: 14 figure

Black hole solutions in the warped DGP braneworld

We study the static, analytical solution of black holes in the warped DGP braneworld scenario. We show that the linearized field equations and matching conditions lead to solutions that are not compatible with Schwarzschild-(A)dS(4)_{(4)} solutions on the brane. This incompatibility is similar to vDVZ discontinuity in massive gravity theory. Following the standard procedure to remove this discontinuity, which firstly was proposed by Vainshtein, we keep some appropriate nonlinear terms in the field equations. This strategy has its origin in the fact that the spatial extrinsic curvature of the brane plays a crucial role in the nonlinear nature of the solutions and also in recovering the well-measured predictions of General Relativity (GR) at small scales. Using this feature, we obtained an interesting black string solution in the bulk when it is compatible with 4D GR solutions on the brane.Comment: 15 pages, no figure

Concurrence classes for an arbitrary multi-qubit state based on positive operator valued measure

In this paper, we propose concurrence classes for an arbitrary multi-qubit state based on orthogonal complement of a positive operator valued measure, or POVM in short, on quantum phase. In particular, we construct concurrence for an arbitrary two-qubit state and concurrence classes for the three- and four-qubit states. And finally, we construct WmW^{m} and GHZmGHZ^{m} class concurrences for multi-qubit states. The unique structure of our POVM enables us to distinguish different concurrence classes for multi-qubit states.Comment: 8 page
