Orbiter/payload contamination control assessment support
The development and integration of 16 payload bay liner filters into the existing shuttle/payload contamination evaluation (SPACE) computer program is discussed as well as an initial mission profile model. As part of the mission profile model, a thermal conversion program, a temperature cycling routine, a flexible plot routine and a mission simulation of orbital flight test 3 are presented
2D Yang-Mills Theory as a Matrix String Theory
Quantization of two-dimensional Yang-Mills theory on a torus in the gauge
where the field strength is diagonal leads to twisted sectors that are
completely analogous to the ones that originate long string states in Matrix
String Theory. If these sectors are taken into account the partition function
is different from the standard one found in the literature and the invariance
of the theory under modular transformations of the torus appears to hold in a
stronger sense. The twisted sectors are in one-to-one correspondence with the
coverings of the torus without branch points, so they define by themselves a
string theory. A possible duality between this string theory and the
Gross-Taylor string is discussed, and the problems that one encounters in
generalizing this approach to interacting strings are pointed out. This talk is
based on a previous paper by the same authors, but it contains some new results
and a better interpretation of the results already obtained.Comment: 11 pages, LaTeX, 2 figures included with epsf. Talk presented at the

Representations of the -algebra and the loop representation in -dimensions
We consider the phase-space of Yang-Mills on a cylindrical space-time () and the associated algebra of gauge-invariant functions, the
-variables. We solve the Mandelstam identities both classically and
quantum-mechanically by considering the -variables as functions of the
eigenvalues of the holonomy and their associated momenta. It is shown that
there are two inequivalent representations of the quantum -algebra. Then we
compare this reduced phase space approach to Dirac quantization and find it to
give essentially equivalent results. We proceed to define a loop representation
in each of these two cases. One of these loop representations (for ) is
more or less equivalent to the usual loop representation.Comment: 15 pages, LaTeX, 1 postscript figure included, uses epsf.sty,

Payload/orbiter contamination control requirement study: Spacelab configuration contamination study
The assessment of the Spacelab carrier induced contaminant environment was continued, and the ability of Spacelab to meet established contamination control criteria for the space transportation system program was determined. The primary areas considered included: (1) updating, refining, and improving the Spacelab contamination computer model and contamination analysis methodology, (2) establishing the resulting adjusted induced environment predictions for comparison with the applicable criteria, (3) determining the Spacelab design and operational requirements necessary to meet the criteria, (4) conducting mission feasibility analyses of the combined Spacelab/Orbiter contaminant environment for specific proposed mission and payload mixes, and (5) establishing a preliminary Spacelab mission support plan as well as model interface requirements; A summary of those activities conducted to date with respect to the modelling, analysis, and predictions of the induced environment, including any modifications in approach or methodology utilized in the contamination assessment of the Spacelab carrier, was presented
Antiferromagnetic S=1/2 Heisenberg Chain and the Two-flavor Massless Schwinger Model
An antiferromagnetic S=1/2 Heisenberg chain is mapped to the two-flavor
massless Schwinger model at \theta=\pi. The electromagnetic coupling constant
and velocity of light in the Schwinger model are determined in terms of the
Heisenberg coupling and lattice spacing in the spin chain system.Comment: 3 pages. LaTex2
The QCD equation of state with asqtad staggered fermions
We report on our result for the equation of state (EOS) with a Symanzik
improved gauge action and the asqtad improved staggered fermion action at
and 6. In our dynamical simulations with 2+1 flavors we use the inexact
R algorithm and here we estimate the finite step-size systematic error on the
EOS. Finally we discuss the non-zero chemical potential extension of the EOS
and give some preliminary results.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, presented at Lattice2006(High Temperature and

The equation of state with nonzero chemical potential for 2+1 flavors
We present results for the QCD equation of state with nonzero chemical
potential using the Taylor expansion method with terms up to sixth order in the
expansion. Our calculations are performed on asqtad 2+1 quark flavor lattices
