    Effectiveness of a herbicide is influenced by crop variety, weed growth stage, time of spraying, temperature, soil moisture, relative humidity, quality of solvent, and chemical properties of soil The aim of this research is to evaluate the influence of EDTA and water solvent quality on the effectiveness of ammonium gluphosinate and isopropilamine gliphosate in controlling Cyperus rotundus on soybean cultivation . A pot experiment was performed in dry season 1997 using complete randomized design (CRD) with six replications. Three EDTA concentrations, ie., 0.0, 0.5, and 1.0%, were cross combined with 0, 120, 240 and 480 g/ha of isopropilamine gliphosate and 75, 150 and 225 g/ha of ammonium gluphosinate. Ten around-I- cm diameter of Cyperus rotundus tubers were planted in each pot. The ammonium gluphosinate and isopropilamine gliphosate, were diluted in two water solvent qualities, each obtained from irrigation water of Kendalpayak experimental farm and ground water of Jambegede experimental farm to make a volume of 200 I/ha. The herbicides solution was sprayed onto the soils 14 days after the tubers, while soybeans were sown at seven days after herbicides application. The results show that the addition of 0.5 to 1.0% of EDTA into the water solvent with Ca+ Mg content ranging fi-om 26.86 to 44.88 ppm canceled the effectiveness of ammonium gluphosinate and isopropilamine gliphosate in controlling Cyperus rotundus. These herbicides, however, were more effective in controlling the growth of Cyperus rotundus as well as increased soybean yield when diluted in water with Ca+Mg content 26.86 ppm. It is suggested that further research should be performed using various qualities of water solvents applied to crops and weeds.
