A Rare Case of Low-Grade Appendiceal Mucinous Neoplasm with Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Presenting with Ruptured Umbilical Hernia

    No full text
Low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (LAMN) is a rare malignancy with symptoms varying depending on the clinical manifestations. The most worrisome complication of this particular neoplasm is seeding of mucin into the adjacent peritoneum, leading to pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP). We present an unusual case of a 70-year-old female found to have LAMN with PMP who presented with ruptured umbilical hernia

Epidermoid Cyst of Ovary - A Rare Case Report

    No full text
Epidermoid cyst of ovary represents 1% of all surface epithelial tumors. Though we commonly see follicular cyst, simple serous cyst, hemorrhagic cysts in hysterectomy specimens of post menopausal females, epidermoid cyst is an incidental finding. It is necessary to differentiate epidermoid cyst from dermoid cyst and immature teratoma because of different line of treatment. We here report a case of epidermoid cyst in a 50 years old female who presented with pain in lower abdomen and increased bleeding per vaginum

Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma Arising in Fibroadenoma and Associated Proliferative Mammary Disease in a 38 Years Old Female -A Rare Case Report

    No full text
Infiltrating ductal carcinoma arising in a fibroadenoma is a rare incidental finding. Incidence is 0.002-0.0125%. Women having proliferative disease without atypia have a twofold elevation in their risk for subsequent invasive breast cancer. We here present a case report in a 38 years female having fibroadenoma, intraductal papilloma and fibocystic disease of breast who subsequently developed invasive ductal carcinoma in the fibroadenoma. Thus these lesions can be considered to have increased risk of developing malignancy

Rapunzel Syndrome - Trichobezoar in a 9 Year Old Girl: A Case Report

    No full text
We here report a case of 9 years old girl presented in casualty with an acute abdomen and small bowel obstruction and on laprotomy a large trichobezoar was revealed extending into small intestine along with intussuception. Rapunzel syndrome is a rare but potentially fatal trichobezoar. Trichobezoar, an underdiagnosed entity, has to be considered in the differential diagnosis of abdominal pain and a nontender abdominal mass even in young children

RT Glomangioma on Right Forearm - A Rare Case Report

    No full text
Glomangioma is very rare lesion in extradigital location. They are usually associated with multiple and familial lesion. Glomangioma as with glomus tumour also presents with hypersensitivity to cold, severe pain and pinpoint tenderness to blunt palpation. Glomus tumours have not been observed in individuals who are less than one year of age (glomus bodies form after that age) or in elderly persons (glomus bodies undergo atrophy and degeneration in elderly persons). Diagnosis is conrmed by histopathological diagnosis but should be differentiated from glomangiosarcoma which shows nuclear atypia and mitotic activity. We here present a case of glomangioma in a 28 years male on right forearm

Utility of Hematological Parameters in Detection of Neonatal Sepsis

    No full text
Background: Sepsis in neonates may be difficult to differentiate from other conditions because the clinical signs are non specific. The hematological response to inflammation in neonates includes many changes in the form of an abnormal total count, morphological changes, thrombocytopenia and various inflammatory markers in serum. Aim and Objectives: To assess the importance of hematological profile in early diagnosis of neonatal sepsis and to calculate the sensitivity, specificity and predictive values of individual hematological tests and various test combinations. Material and Methods: It was a prospective study including 128 neonates, out of which 65 were cases (31 proven septic and 34 probable cases; blood culture being the gold standard) while rest 63 were controls. They were evaluated for sepsis using hematological scoring system (HSS) and c-reactive protein (CRP). Parameters used in score were Immature: Total polymorphonuclear cell (I:T) and Immature: Mature polymorphonuclear cell (I:M) ratio, Total White blood cell (WBC) count, Total Polymorphonuclear (PMN) cell count, Immature Polymorphonuclear cell count, Platelet count and degenerative changes observed in neutrophils. Results: Blood culture was positive in 31 cases. Preterm infants and low birth infants were more prone to sepsis. I: T ratio, total PMN count, I:M ratio and Immature PMN count were found to have high sensitivity while degenerative changes in PMN was found to be highly specific test for sepsis along with 2 total WBC count. Applying c test, the association of sepsis was found to be significant with I:T ratio, I:M ratio, Immature PMN count, Total WBC count, Platelet count and positive CRP test. As the Hematological score increased from 1 to 6, sensitivity and negative predictive value decreased and vice-a-versa happenedwith specificity and positive predictive value. Conclusion: HSS has high sensitivity and specificity, the certainty of sepsis being present with higher scores and using combination of various parameters. Hence, it may aid the clinicians in identifying sepsis and to start proper and timely antibiotic therapy

Subdeltoid Bursa Tuberculosis with Rice Body Formation–A Case Report

    No full text
Tuberculous tenosynovitis and bursitis account for approximately 1%. A 56 years old female presented with swelling in left shoulder, gradually increasing in size with slight restriction in movement since last three months. X-ray revealed no abnormality of humerus head. Histopathological examination showed granulomatous tissue with multiple rice bodies. A positive culture of mycobacterium tuberculosis confirmed the diagnosis of tuberculosis. We here report a case of subdeltoid bursitis with rice body formation and without active bone and joint tuberculosis

Angiomyxolipoma of the Upper Lip-A Rare Tumor at an Uncommon Site with Review of Literature

    No full text
Angiomyxolipoma is a very rare benign mesenchymal tumor characterized by admixture of adipose tissue and myxoid stroma along with multiple vascular channels. It should be differentiated with other benign and malignant variants of lipoma. We are reporting a case of 70 years old male with a history of a painless swelling in upper lip for 5 year
