On the presentation of pointed Hopf algebras

We give a presentation in terms of generators and relations of Hopf algebras generated by skew-primitive elements and abelian group of group-like elements with action given via characters. This class of pointed Hopf algebras has shown great importance in the classification theory and can be seen as generalized quantum groups. As a consequence we get an analog presentation of Nichols algebras of diagonal type

The Role of Viperin in the Innate Antiviral Response

AbstractViral infection of the cell is able to initiate a signaling cascade of events that ultimately attempts to limit viral replication and prevent escalating infection through expression of host antiviral proteins. Recent work has highlighted the importance of the host antiviral protein viperin in this process, with its ability to limit a large variety of viral infections as well as play a role in the production of type I interferon and the modulation of a number of transcription factor binding sites. Viperin appears to have the ability to modulate varying conditions within the cell and to interfere with proviral host proteins in its attempts to create an unfavorable environment for viral replication. The study of the mechanistic actions of viperin has come a long way in recent years, describing important functional domains of the protein for its antiviral and immune modulator actions as well as demonstrating its role as a member of the radical SAM enzyme family. However, despite the rapid expansion of knowledge regarding the functions of this highly conserved and ancient antiviral protein, there still remains large gaps in our understanding of the precise mechanisms at play for viperin to exert such a wide variety of roles within the cell

Das missachtete Verfassungsgebot - Wie das Sonderungsverbot nach Art. 7 IV 3 GG unterlaufen wird

Die Privatschulfreiheit ist in Deutschland in Art. 7 IV GG verfassungsrechtlich gewährleistet. Allerdings dürfen private Schulen als Ersatz für staatliche Schulen nach Art. nach Art. 7 IV 3 GG nur genehmigt werden, wenn „eine Sonderung der Schüler nach den Besitzverhältnissen der Eltern nicht gefördert wird“. Diese Genehmigungsvoraussetzung ist nach der Rechtsprechung des BVerfG strikt und muss fortlaufend eingehalten werden. In der Gesetzgebung der Länder und der behördlichen Genehmigungs- und Aufsichtspraxis wird den Vorgaben des Sonderungsverbots jedoch weitgehend nicht entsprochen. So kommt es zu einer sozialen Segregation der Schüler an den Privatschulen, die das Verfassungsgebot aushöhlt

ROCK signaling promotes collagen remodeling to facilitate invasive pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma tumor cell growth

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a major cause of cancer death; identifying PDAC enablers may reveal potential therapeutic targets. Expression of the actomyosin regulatory ROCK1 and ROCK2 kinases increased with tumor progression in human and mouse pancreatic tumors, while elevated ROCK1/ROCK2 expression in human patients, or conditional ROCK2 activation in a KrasG12D/p53R172H mouse PDAC model, was associated with reduced survival. Conditional ROCK1 or ROCK2 activation promoted invasive growth of mouse PDAC cells into three‐dimensional collagen matrices by increasing matrix remodeling activities. RNA sequencing revealed a coordinated program of ROCK‐induced genes that facilitate extracellular matrix remodeling, with greatest fold‐changes for matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) Mmp10 and Mmp13. MMP inhibition not only decreased collagen degradation and invasion, but also reduced proliferation in three‐dimensional contexts. Treatment of KrasG12D/p53R172H PDAC mice with a ROCK inhibitor prolonged survival, which was associated with increased tumor‐associated collagen. These findings reveal an ancillary role for increased ROCK signaling in pancreatic cancer progression to promote extracellular matrix remodeling that facilitates proliferation and invasive tumor growth

Privatschulen und die soziale Frage: Wirkung rechtlicher Vorgaben zum Sonderungsverbot in den Bundesländern

Die Genehmigung einer privaten Ersatzschule darf in Deutschland nur gewährt werden, wenn "eine Sonderung der Schüler nach den Besitzverhältnissen der Eltern nicht gefördert wird" (Art 7 Abs. 4 S. 3 GG). Dieses Sonderungsverbot wird in den Bundesländern unterschiedlich umgesetzt. Bei seiner rechtlichen Umsetzung wird sich dabei ausschließlich auf Vorgaben zur Einhaltung des Schulgelds konzentriert. Es wird auf weitere Gründe eingegangen, warum der Zugang zu Privatschulen sozial ungleich ist. Wir zeigen in diesem Beitrag anhand von Daten aus Berlin (rechtlicher Verstoß gegen das Sonderungsverbot) und Rheinland-Pfalz (faktisches Verbot von Schulgeld), dass der Verzicht auf Schulgeld zwar eine notwendige, aber keine hinreichende Voraussetzung zur Einhaltung des Sonderungsverbots ist
