This study was conducted to explain the karyological characteristics of S. xanthoprymnus from Gencali in Turkey. The chromosomes of the specimens were traditionally stained and examined according to standard procedures. The chromosomes were determined according to centromere positions by examining the photographs of metaphase cells. The karyotype of S. xanthoprymnus contained 42 chromosomes (2n=42) and fundamental number of chromosomal arms NF=81 and the number of autosomal arms NFa=78. The karyotype includes four metacentric chromosomes ranging from large to small, three pairs of large and medium-sized submetacentric autosome, twelve ranging from large to medium size subtelocentric, and a pair of acrocentric autosomes. The X chromosome was determined as large subtelocentric and Y chromosome as small acrocentric. Due to there is no karyological information and geographical distribution of existentence cytotypes in Turkey, revelation of chromosomal structure in Anatolian ground squirrel populations will provide properly assessment of taxonomy of those rodents in further studies

The Role of EREG, PTPN1, and SERPINB7 Genes in the Pathogenesis of Psoriasis: May SERPINB7 Be Protective and a Marker of Severity for Psoriasis?

Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory dermatological disease with complex pathogenesis in which many immune system cells, including keratinocytes, play a role. Many genes regulate the proliferation of keratinocytes and other immune cells that have essential roles in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. The expressions of EREG, PTPN1, and SERPINB7 genes were shown as upregulated in psoriatic skins in a few studies previously. Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the expressions of these genes in psoriatic lesional skin and com-pared them with non-lesional adjacent skin of the same patients and normal skin of healthy controls. Results: Our results revealed that the expressions of EREG and PTPN1 genes were upregulated, whereas the SERPINB7 gene expression was down regulated in the psoriatic skin of the patients than normal skin of controls. Moreover, the expression level of the SERPINB7 gene was also negatively correlated with the severity of the disease among patients. Conclusions: According to our results, overexpression of EREG and PTPN1 genes, and decreased expression of SERPINB7 gene may lead to the development of psoriasis

An Infertile Case with Homozygous Pericentric Inversion 9

The pericentric inversion of chromosome 9 consisting heterochromatin region is one of the common variatons in human. Despite being categorized as a minor chromosomal rearrangement which does not correlate with phenotype abnormalities, reports in the literature raised the association with subfertility, repeated pregnancy loss, bad obstetric history, congenitial anomalies and abnormal clinical phenotypes. Twenty six year-old male infertile patient referred to medical Genetics clinic. The physica l examination and hormon profiles were normal. Family history was not specific. Cytogenetic analysis result of the patient revealed 46,XY,inv(9)(p11q13)x2 karyotype. The cytogenetic analysis of his mother and father revealed to have heterozygous inv(9)(p11q13) karyotypes. In this case, we discussed the homozygous pericentric inversion of chromosome 9 karyotype which is and unusual condition as a cause of infertility in the view of the literature
