4D Reconstruction and Visualization of Cultural Heritage: Analysing our Legacy Through Time
Temporal analyses and multi-temporal 3D reconstruction are fundamental for the preservation and maintenance of all forms of Cultural Heritage (CH) and are the basis for decisions related to interventions and promotion. Introducing the fourth dimension of time into three-dimensional geometric modelling of real data allows the creation of a multi-temporal representation of a site. In this way, scholars from various disciplines (surveyors, geologists, archaeologists, architects, philologists, etc.) are provided with a new set of tools and working methods to support the study of the evolution of heritage sites, both to develop hypotheses about the past and to model likely future developments. The capacity to “see” the dynamic evolution of CH assets across different spatial scales (e.g. building, site, city or territory) compressed in diachronic model, affords the possibility to better understand the present status of CH according to its history. However, there are numerous challenges in order to carry out 4D modelling and the requisite multi-data source integration. It is necessary to identify the specifications, needs and requirements of the CH community to understand the required levels of 4D model information. In this way, it is possible to determine the optimum material and technologies to be utilised at different CH scales, as well as the data management and visualization requirements. This manuscript aims to provide a comprehensive approach for CH time-varying representations, analysis and visualization across different working scales and environments: rural landscape, urban landscape and architectural scales. Within this aim, the different available metric data sources are systemized and evaluated in terms of their suitability
Validation of measurement of land parcel areas on ortophotomap
W niniejszym artykule zaprezentowano wybrane zagadnienia będące przedmiotem badań w ramach projektu UE Validation of methods for measurement of land parcel areas realizowanego i koordynowanego w AGH (Kraków) w 2005 roku. Wyniki opracowano zgodnie z normą SO 5725. In the paper chosen results of the UE project Validation of methods for measurement of land parcel areas are presented. The project was realized and coordinated at the AGH in Krakow. During the project 3 measurement experiments were performed: 2 remote sensing (AGH Kraków) and 1 GPS (UWM Olsztyn). The experiment was prepared and statistical analyzed at USI Gembleux. The aim of the study was to elaborate the validation method for land parcel measurements. In the paper short discussion of the existing approach is presented and alternative method proposed by author is described. Results of remote sensing experiments are shown. Point position error, characterizing measurements technique, was assumed as a parameter for area accuracy assessment. In RS experiments airborne and satellite ortophotomaps, with pixel size of 0.2-2.5 m were applied. 36 land parcels were digitized by 6-12 operators. In experiment 1 - 3888 measurements were made (1296 - in experiment 2). Data were according ISO 5725 analyzed. For VHR ortophotomaps (pixel size 0.2-1 m) we obtained the point position error of ca. +/- 2m. For EROS and SPOT (pixel size 2 and 2.5 m) point position error was ca +/-5 m. An optimal measurement set for proposal of validation method for RS is: 30-40 parcels, 3 operators, 3 days and 3 repetitions
ON-LINE GIS ANALYSIS AND IMAGE PROCESSING FOR GEOPORTAL KIELCE/POLAND DEVELOPMENT
GIS databases are widely available on the Internet, but mainly for visualization with limited functionality; very simple queries are
possible i.e. attribute query, coordinate readout, line and area measurements or pathfinder. A little more complex analysis (i.e.
buffering or intersection) are rare offered. Paper aims at the concept of Geoportal functionality development in the field of GIS
analysis. Multi-Criteria Evaluation (MCE) is planned to be implemented in web application. OGC Service is used for data
acquisition from the server and results visualization. Advanced GIS analysis is planned in PostGIS and Python programming. In the
paper an example of MCE analysis basing on Geoportal Kielce is presented. Other field where Geoportal can be developed is
implementation of processing new available satellite images free of charge (Sentinel-2, Landsat 8, ASTER, WV-2). Now we are
witnessing a revolution in access to the satellite imagery without charge. This should result in an increase of interest in the use of
these data in various fields by a larger number of users, not necessarily specialists in remote sensing. Therefore, it seems reasonable
to expand the functionality of Internet's tools for data processing by non-specialists, by automating data collection and prepared
predefined analysis
Comparison of the elevation obtained from ALS, ADS40 stereoscopic measurements and GPS
Jak można było przypuszczać, chmura punktów ALS oraz model GRID leżą najbliżej siebie, przy czym model znajduje się średnio 0.1 m powyżej surowych danych ALS.Research of the vertical accuracy assessments according different methods are in the paper presented. The following data were compared: GPS RTK (as a reference), airborne stereo model from ADS40 camera, cloud of points from the ALS, and a GRID model created from the ALS data. Raw ALS data were initially preprocessed in TerraScan for classifying of ground points (using the active TIN model algorithm). Triangulations in a radius of 20 m around the GPS control points were performed. Then the height corresponding to GPS position (x, y) was from the triangle plane calculated. In the same way height for GPS position was obtained from ADS 40 stereo model. NMT in GRID model of 1 m grid size was generated in TerraScan basing on the points early classified as a ground. The lowest of the all data set was GPS surveying (average, more than 0.2 m below the ALS data). ALS points cloud and GRID model were the closest to each other but the NMT was an average of 0.1 m above the raw data
Analiza wpływu liczby mierzonych punktów granicznych działki na dokładność określania jej pola powierzchni
The question which the research attempted to answer was to what degree the measurement of parcel boundary points influences the error in the calculation of the area of each land parcel. The field measurements relied on continuous GPS measurements of land parcels with various recording intervals. The accuracy of the simulated area as calculated from Gauss’ formula increases with an increase in the number of boundary points. The experiment of using continuous measurement by GPS did not confirm the accuracy of the simulated area in all the point number ranges. The largest difference was observed where there was a small percentage of measurement points, where the prognosis error was much higher (almost two times) than the error obtained during measurement. The relationship between the number of points and accuracy of the area measurement was also compared with the literature. The results of our research partly confirmed results published in the literature with the main discrepancy being observed for a lower number of boundary points. In our research, area error increases with decreasing number of points; in the literature area error decreases with a decreasing number of boundary points. The explanation of this phenomenon requires further research especially as the field measurements from this research do not fully correlate with the simulations found in the literature.
Comparison of possibilities of GIS database update with an orthophotomap and GPS Mobile Mapper receivers
W niniejszej publikacji przedstawiono próbę oceny możliwości aktualizacji
bazy danych przestrzennych na podstawie pomiarów wykonanych odbiornikami Mobile Mapper
CE, Mobile Mapper CX oraz wektoryzacji ortofotomapy. Pomiary wykonano w dwóch obszarach
testowych – wiejskim i miejskim. Przedmiotem pomiaru były obiekty punktowe, liniowe
i powierzchniowe. Jako wzorzec przyjęto wyniki z pomiaru GPS RTK Leica System 500.
W wyniku przeprowadzonych testów uzyskano zróżnicowaną dokładność pomiarów GPS,
w zależności od technologii pomiaru. Maksymalną dokładność (nawet centymetrową) uzyskano
dla odbiornika Mobile Mapper CX z wykorzystaniem anteny i 10 minutowego pomiaru
na punkcie. W przypadku ortofotomapy ze zdjęć 1:13 000 uzyskano dokładność położenia punktu
ok. 0.9 m. Prace były prowadzone w ramach projektu AGH nr: 11.11.150.94.The paper presents spatial database updating with Mobile Mapper CE, Mobile Mapper CX and
orthophotomap digitalization. Two areas: a rural and an urban one were chosen and objects such as
points, lines, and surface areas were measured .The Mobile Mapper CE and digitalization were
tested on both terrain types. The Leica System 500 was assumed as a reference. The GPS accuracy
varied, depending on a measurement method applied. The maximum accuracy (on the order of
centimeters) was achieved using the Mobile Mapper CX with an external antenna, applied for 10
seconds. The ortophotomap generated from aerial photos to the scale of 1:13 000 resulted in 0.9 m
accuracy. The work was supported by the AGH project No. 11.150.459
The quality of digital terrain models
i ekspozycji, aż do wykorzystania NMT w skomplikowanym modelowaniu zjawisk zachodzących
modeli terenu. Publikacja została przygotowana w ramach projektu AGH nr: 11.11.150.949.The Digital Elevation Model is one of very important layers in GIS systems. Many
spatial queries are made with the use of DEM, from simple questions to derivatives such as slope,
aspect and viewshed maps to complicated modelling of environmental phenomenon. The analyses
can be made (and that is the usual case) by the so called hard method, which does not take into
account the reliability of source data, or with the fuzzy method, which takes into consideration
multiple accuracy aspects. Recently, more and more attention has been paid to the GIS analyses
credibility, which makes the accuracy issues more important than ever. Another problem is that
GIS software only occasionally delivers tools for algorithm and function accuracy analysis. The
paper provides a review of literature concerning the statement and modelling of inaccuracy in
Digital Elevation Models. The work was supported by AGH project No. 11.11.150.949
