Multi-body dynamics in full-vehicle handling analysis

    Get PDF
This paper presents a multidegrees-of-freedom non-linear multibody dynamic model of a vehicle, comprising front and rear suspensions, steering system, road wheels, tyres and vehicle inertia. The model incorporates all sources of compliance, stiffness and damping, all with non-linear characteristics. The vehicle model is created in ADAMS (automatic dynamic analysis of mechanical systems) formulation. The model is used for the purpose of vehicle handling analysis. Simulation runs, in-line with vehicle manoeuvres specified under ISO and British Standards, have been undertaken and reported in the paper

This paper considers the problem of finding global states incoming to a specified global state in a Boolean network, which may be useful for pre-processing of finding a sequence of control actions for a Boolean network and for identifying the basin of attraction for a given attractor, We show that this problem is NP-hard in general along with related theoretical results, On the other hand, we present algorithms that are much faster than the naive exhaustive search-based algorithm. ©2007 IEEE.link_to_subscribed_fulltex

Predicting and Controlling Fertility Using Family Planning Methods

    Get PDF
Without a real reduction in population fertility rates, developing societies will push for more spending on their infrastructure and more demand for basic services for new-born, and more dependency and crowding, and the attendant ills and various social, economic and cultural problems, which will push these countries towards Directing a large part (if not most) of development revenues to meet the growing population. In general, the importance of this study lies in how to predict fertility rates using the rates of family planning methods (practice rates, years of protection) and to identify the method of neural networks and its accuracy in dealing with fertility data in particular. The study concluded that the prevalence of family planning methods (PR) and protection rate (CYP) are used to estimate and predict the total fertility rate (TFR) very efficiently, and artificial neu6ral networks have reached a high rate and high accuracy in estimating and predicting the total fertility rate (TFR) is highly and reliable (99.6%)

Nonthermal Laser-Induced Formation of Crystalline Ge Quantum Dots on Si(100)

The effects of laser-induced electronic excitations on the self-assembly of Ge quantum dots on Si (100) - (2×1) grown by pulsed laser deposition are studied. Electronic excitations due to laser irradiation of the Si substrate and the Ge film during growth are shown to decrease the roughness of films grown at a substrate temperature of ∼120 °C. At this temperature, the grown films are nonepitaxial. Electronic excitation results in the formation of an epitaxial wetting layer and crystalline Ge quantum dots at ∼260 °C, a temperature at which no crystalline quantum dots form without excitation under the same deposition conditions.© 2008 American Institute of Physics. Investigating the factors of selecting audit clients: Evidence from an emerging market

    Get PDF
This study investigates the insights and criteria audit partners use to select prospective clients in an emerging market. We use questionnaires to solicit responses from a sample of auditors at the partner/manager level in Big and non-Big 4 audit firms with international affiliations in an emerging economy. Descriptive statistical tools including the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis are used for the analysis. This study finds that auditor reputation enhancement and corporate governance effectiveness are significantly associated with the acceptance of listed companies and that the higher financial reporting quality of listed companies and the need to promote audit and assurance services are significant factors affecting such decisions. Audit firms tend to select parents or subsidiaries because of the expected effective audits and reduced misstatement and litigation risks and audit firm industry expertise is needed to mitigate expected client risks to significantly affect the selection of clients with prior-year audit qualifications. Fraud is significantly associated with the selection of clients with prior violations reported by government monitoring bodies. This study is among the few empirical studies in emerging economies that provide insights from practicing auditors on a set of comprehensive attributes that affect the selection of audit clients. The findings have implications for audit partners and firms, auditees, and the audit profession in selecting clients that fit the firm’s and profession’s vision of audit branding and reputatio

Standards Affecting Increasing the Resistance of Laboratory Clothing Fabrics to Chemicals

    Get PDF
This study focuses on identifying the criteria that affect the harm and danger laboratory workers and students face from chemical reactions and combustion resulting from mixing chemicals. The study investigates the impact of fabric type, weave structure, and weft density on the resistance of laboratory clothing fabrics to chemicals. Laboratory tests were conducted to produce textile products that meet resistance specifications. The study found that the processing method used had a significant effect on improving the properties of ignition resistance and resistance to fluid permeability within the fabrics. The study used an experimental descriptive approach and statistical analysis with the SPSS program to process the data

Applying Association Rules and Co-location Techniques on Geospatial Web Services

    Get PDF
Most contemporary GIS have only very basic spatial analysis and data mining functionality and many are confined to analysis that involves comparing maps and descriptive statistical displays like histograms or pie charts. Emerging Web standards promise a network of heterogeneous yet interoperable Web Services. Web Services would greatly simplify the development of many kinds of data integration and knowledge management applications. Geospatial data mining describes the combination of two key market intelligence software tools: Geographical Information Systems and Data Mining Systems. This research aims to develop a Spatial Data Mining web service it uses rule association techniques and correlation methods to explore results of huge amounts of data generated from crises management integrated applications developed. It integrates between traffic systems, medical services systems, civil defense and state of the art Geographic Information Systems and Data Mining Systems functionality in an open, highly extensible, internet-enabled plug-in architecture. The Interoperability of geospatial data previously focus just on data formats and standards. The recent popularity and adoption of the Internet and Web Services has provided a new means of interoperability for geospatial information not just for exchanging data but for analyzing these data during exchange. An integrated, user friendly Spatial Data Mining System available on the internet via a web service offers exciting new possibilities for spatial decision making and geographical research to a wide range of potential users.   Keywords: Spatial Data Mining, Rule Association, Co-location, Web Services, Geospatial Dat

Using Shabby Chic Style in Contemporary Clothing Accessories to Achieve the Principles of Sustainable Development

    Get PDF
The research team is keen to provide a new thinking approach characterized by creativity and innovation to achieve the principles of sustainable development, both environmentally and economically. Thus, the team thought about how to preserve the environment by using worn-out clothes and accessories that are not usable again or through recycling instead of disposing of them permanently in a way that harms the environment while emphasizing the economic aspect and reducing the cost. The research team invented artworks with an antique touch as accessories to contemporary clothes, based on the Shabby Chic style, which is one of the economical styles that reuses old worn-out items and mixes them with simple modern ones to create an atmosphere of simplicity and elegance. It is a method used in interior design that combines elements of old furniture with simple design, soft colors, and classic touches that give the house a comfortable and attractive atmosphere. This is the reason why the research team applied the rules of this style with clothes and their accessories attempting to provide inexpensive and creative solutions to be the basis of a small successful project that goes with the new trend of entrepreneurship, in line with the events that the whole world is witnessing nowadays; and this is the most prominent goal of the research. The research followed the descriptive approach with analysis and application. It included a questionnaire to measure the opinions of experts about the suggested designs, and a questionnaire to identify the opinions of consumers about the suggested designs as well. The findings suggest that Shabby Chic Style could be used to create contemporary designs for clothing accessories that meet the principles of sustainable development and entrepreneurship
