Absorption cross section and Hawking radiation in two-dimensional AdS black hole
We calculate the absorption coefficient of scalar field on the background of
the two-dimensional AdS black hole, which is of relevance to Hawking radiation.
For the massless scalar field, we find that there does not exist any massless
radiation.Comment: 6 pages, revtex, no figure
Demonstration of Rashba spin splitting in GaN-based heterostructures
The circular photogalvanic effect (CPGE), induced by infrared radiation, has
been observed in (0001)-oriented GaN quantum well (QW) structures. The
photocurrent changes sign upon reversing the radiation helicity demonstrating
the existence of spin-splitting of the conduction band in k-space in this type
of materials. The observation suggests the presence of a sizeable Rashba type
of spin-splitting, caused by the built-in asymmetry at the AlGaN/GaN interface.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure
Lyman alpha line formation in starbursting galaxies II. Extremely Thick, Dustless, and Static HI Media
The Lya line transfer in an extremely thick medium of neutral hydrogen is
investigated by adopting an accelerating scheme in our Monte Carlo code to skip
a large number of core or resonant scatterings. This scheme reduces computing
time significantly with no sacrifice in the accuracy of the results. We applied
this numerical method to the Lya transfer in a static, uniform, dustless, and
plane-parallel medium. Two types of photon sources have been considered, the
midplane source and the uniformly distributed sources. The emergent profiles
show double peaks and absorption trough at the line-center. We compared our
results with the analytic solutions derived by previous researchers, and
confirmed that both solutions are in good agreement with each other. We
investigated the directionality of the emergent Lya photons and found that limb
brightening is observed in slightly thick media while limb darkening appears in
extremely thick media. The behavior of the directionality is noted to follow
that of the Thomson scattered radiation in electron clouds, because both Lya
wing scattering and Thomson scattering share the same Rayleigh scattering phase
function. The mean number of wing scatterings just before escape is in exact
agreement with the prediction of the diffusion approximation. The Lya photons
constituting the inner part of the emergent profiles follow the relationship
derived from the diffusion approximation. We present a brief discussion on the
application of our results to the formation of Lya broad absorption troughs and
P-Cygni type Lya profiles seen in the UV spectra of starburst galaxies.Comment: 24 papges, 12 figures, The revised version submitted to Ap
Chronic Headache Education and Self-management Study (CHESS) : Statistical Analysis Plan [v1.1]
Background and rationale
Chronic headaches present a major problem both for the individual and society. Previous studies on supportive self-management interventions in this population have largely been small studies with short term follow-up, they often did not report clinically relevant outcomes, or were conducted in different healthcare systems therefore difficult to translate into an NHS setting. These studies also did not necessarily focus on chronic headache but rather looked at headache with no frequency specified. Based on the results of our systematic review there may be potential for large gain through a combination of self-management education and appropriate use of prophylaxis and management of medication overuse headache in a chronic headache population.
In order to develop the evidence base needed for self-management intervention for chronic headache there needs to be a carefully developed, piloted and evaluated intervention package which has been supported by good qualitative work on understanding outcomes of interest. There is therefore the need for a robust clinical and cost-effectiveness trial within an NHS setting.
Objectives
The objective is to answer the question: Amongst adults with chronic headache arising from migraine, chronic tension type headache or medication overuse headache, is the provision of a self-management support programme in addition to best usual NHS care clinically and cost effective?

Singularity Structures in Coulomb-Type Potentials in Two Body Dirac Equations of Constraint Dynamics
Two Body Dirac Equations (TBDE) of Dirac's relativistic constraint dynamics
have been successfully applied to obtain a covariant nonperturbative
description of QED and QCD bound states. Coulomb-type potentials in these
applications lead naively in other approaches to singular relativistic
corrections at short distances that require the introduction of either
perturbative treatments or smoothing parameters. We examine the corresponding
singular structures in the effective potentials of the relativistic
Schroedinger equation obtained from the Pauli reduction of the TBDE. We find
that the relativistic Schroedinger equation lead in fact to well-behaved wave
function solutions when the full potential and couplings of the system are
taken into account. The most unusual case is the coupled triplet system with
S=1 and L={(J-1),(J+1)}. Without the inclusion of the tensor coupling, the
effective S-state potential would become attractively singular. We show how
including the tensor coupling is essential in order that the wave functions be
well-behaved at short distances. For example, the S-state wave function becomes
simply proportional to the D-state wave function and dips sharply to zero at
the origin, unlike the usual S-state wave functions. Furthermore, this behavior
is similar in both QED and QCD, independent of the asymptotic freedom behavior
of the assumed QCD vector potential. Light- and heavy-quark meson states can be
described well by using a simplified linear-plus-Coulomb-type QCD potential
apportioned appropriately between world scalar and vector potentials. We use
this potential to exhibit explicitly the origin of the large pi-rho splitting
and effective chiral symmetry breaking. The TBDE formalism developed here may
be used to study quarkonia in quark-gluon plasma environments.Comment: 23 pages, 4 figure
3DFeat-Net: Weakly Supervised Local 3D Features for Point Cloud Registration
In this paper, we propose the 3DFeat-Net which learns both 3D feature
detector and descriptor for point cloud matching using weak supervision. Unlike
many existing works, we do not require manual annotation of matching point
clusters. Instead, we leverage on alignment and attention mechanisms to learn
feature correspondences from GPS/INS tagged 3D point clouds without explicitly
specifying them. We create training and benchmark outdoor Lidar datasets, and
experiments show that 3DFeat-Net obtains state-of-the-art performance on these
gravity-aligned datasets.Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures. Accepted in ECCV 201
Electronic structure of YbB: Is it a Topological Insulator or not?
To resolve the controversial issue of the topological nature of the
electronic structure of YbB, we have made a combined study using density
functional theory (DFT) and angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES).
Accurate determination of the low energy band topology in DFT requires the use
of modified Becke-Johnson exchange potential incorporating the spin-orbit
coupling and the on-site Coulomb interaction of Yb electrons as large
as 7 eV. We have double-checked the DFT result with the more precise GW band
calculation. ARPES is done with the non-polar (110) surface termination to
avoid band bending and quantum well confinement that have confused ARPES
spectra taken on the polar (001) surface termination. Thereby we show
definitively that YbB has a topologically trivial B 2-Yb 5
semiconductor band gap, and hence is a non-Kondo non-topological insulator
(TI). In agreement with theory, ARPES shows pure divalency for Yb and a -
band gap of 0.3 eV, which clearly rules out both of the previous scenarios of
- band inversion Kondo TI and - band inversion non-Kondo TI. We
have also examined the pressure-dependent electronic structure of YbB,
and found that the high pressure phase is not a Kondo TI but a
\emph{p}-\emph{d} overlap semimetal.Comment: The main text is 6 pages with 4 figures, and the supplementary
