    Enhanced mechanical properties and oxidation resistance of tungsten carbide-cobalt cemented carbides with aluminum nitride additions

    Tungsten carbide-cobalt cermets respectively doped with 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2. wt% aluminum nitride were fabricated by the sintering process at 1400. °C. The existence of aluminum nitride in the binder phase could refine tungsten carbide grains and reinforce the obtained cermets. The cermets with 1.0. wt% aluminum nitride exhibited the higher hardness of 17.1. GPa and transverse rupture strength of 3120. MPa, compared with 15.6. GPa and 2500. MPa of the pure cermets. Owing to the addition of aluminum nitride, a high oxidation resistance was measured in cermets with 2.0. wt% aluminum nitride, which is nearly 1.9 times than that in the pure cermets

    Direct fabrication of high-performance high speed steel products enhanced by LaB6

    A direct fabrication technology (DFT) without smelting has been developed for fabricating sophisticated high speed steel products with low pollution, near-net shaping and short process. The steel consisting of (wt.%): 6.4W, 5.0Mo, 4.2Cr, 3.1V, 8.5Co and 1.28C, was fabricated as exemplary material. The activated and reactive sintering of green compacts under vacuum with low activation energy, redox reaction enhanced diffusion and the construction of concentration gradient of alloying elements around pores, promotes the nearly full densification (>\ua099.40%). Also, the DFT steels show high purity and superior mechanical properties. Minor strengthening agent LaB (0.1\ua0wt.%), which is easily to be accurately introduced in DFT, obviously increases the hot hardness, temper resistance, bend strength and toughness of DFT M3:2. The strengthening effect of boron atoms and La-rich complexes are proposed to directly result in the high hot hardness and temper resistance of LaB containing steel

    Frisson Waves: Exploring Automatic Detection, Triggering and Sharing of Aesthetic Chills in Music Performances

    Frisson is the feeling and experience of physical reactions such as shivers, tingling skin, and goosebumps. Using entrainment through facilitating interpersonal transmissions of embodied sensations, we present "Frisson Waves" with the aim to enhance live music performance experiences. "Frisson Waves" is an exploratory real-time system to detect, trigger and share frisson in a wave-like pattern over audience members during music performances. The system consists of a physiological sensing wristband for detecting frisson and a thermo-haptic neckband for inducing frisson. In a controlled environment, we evaluate detection (n=19) and triggering of frisson (n=15). Based on our findings, we conducted an in-the-wild music concert with 48 audience members using our system to share frisson. This paper summarizes a framework for accessing, triggering and sharing frisson. We report our research insights, lessons learned, and limitations of "Frisson Waves".     Cardioneuroablation for successful treatment of symptomatic bradycardia in a 12-year-old child after a 6-month follow-up

    BackgroundCardioneuroablation (CNA) is recognized as a promising therapeutic option for adults with severe symptomatic bradycardia caused by excessive vagal tone. However, no pediatric cases have been reported to date. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of CNA in children.MethodsA 12-year-old male patient was hospitalized with symptoms of fatigue, palpitations, and syncope for more than 2 months, and was definitively diagnosed with functional sinoatrial node dysfunction by using a 12-lead electrocardiogram, 24-h Holter monitoring, loading dose of atropine test (0.04 mg/kg), and treadmill exercise test. Simultaneously, whole-exome sequencing was performed on the child and his core family members. After completing the preoperative examination and signing the informed consent form, the child underwent CNA therapy.ResultsFirst, the electroanatomic structures of both atria were mapped out by using the Carto 3 system, according to the protocol of purely anatomy-guided and local fractionated intracardiac electrogram–guided CNA methods. Then, the local fractionated intracardiac electrograms of each cardiac ganglionated plexus (GP), including the GP between the aortic root and the medial wall of the superior vena cava, the GP between the posterior wall of the coronary sinus ostium and the left atrium, the GP between the anterior antrum of the right superior pulmonary vein and the superior vena cava, the GP in the superolateral area around the root of the left superior pulmonary vein, the GP around the root of the right inferior pulmonary vein, and the GP around the root of the left inferior pulmonary vein, were used as targets for ablation at a power of 30 W with an ablation index of 350–400. At a 6-month follow-up, the child's heart rhythm saw a complete restoration to sinus rhythm and clinical symptoms disappeared.ConclusionThe first application of CNA in a child with symptomatic sinus bradycardia was achieved with better clinical outcomes. CNA can be carried out cautiously in children under suitable indications

    Genome-wide analysis reveals four key transcription factors associated with cadmium stress in creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera L.)

    Cadmium (Cd) toxicity seriously affects the growth and development of plants, so studies on uptake, translocation, and accumulation of Cd in plants are crucial for phytoremediation. However, the molecular mechanism of the plant response to Cd stress remains poorly understood. The main objective of this study was to reveal differentially expressed genes (DEGs) under lower (BT2_5) and higher (BT43) Cd concentration treatments in creeping bentgrass. A total of 463,184 unigenes were obtained from creeping bentgrass leaves using RNA sequencing technology. Observation of leaf tissue morphology showed that the higher Cd concentration damages leaf tissues. Four key transcription factor (TF) families, WRKY, bZIP, ERF, and MYB, are associated with Cd stress in creeping bentgrass. Our findings revealed that these four TFs play crucial roles during the creeping bentgrass response to Cd stress. This study is mainly focused on the molecular characteristics of DEGs under Cd stress using transcriptomic analysis in creeping bentgrass. These results provide novel insight into the regulatory mechanisms of respond to Cd stress and enrich information for phytoremediation
