    Large Winding Sector of AdS/CFT

We study a family of classical strings on R x S^3 subspace of the AdS_5 x S^5 background that interpolates between pulsating strings and single-spike strings. They are obtained from the helical strings of hep-th/0609026 by interchanging worldsheet time and space coordinates, which maps rotating/spinning string states with large spins to oscillating states with large winding numbers. From a finite-gap perspective, this transformation is realised as an interchange of quasi-momentum and quasi-energy defined for the algebraic curve. The gauge theory duals are also discussed, and are identified with operators in the non-holomorphic sector of N=4 super Yang-Mills. They can be viewed as excited states above the ``antiferromagnetic'' state, which is ``the farthest from BPS'' in the spin-chain spectrum. Furthermore, we investigate helical strings on AdS_3 x S^1 in an appendix.Comment: 1+52 pages, 10 figures, v2: references and comments added, v3: minor changes and a reference adde

Trans-Bilayer Ion Conduction by Proline Containing Cyclic Hexapeptides and Effects of Amino Acid Substitutions on Ion Conducting Properties

Several ion channel forming cyclic peptides have been reported over the past two decades and various ion conducting mechanisms have been proposed. In this article, we report on amino acid substitutions in cyclic hexapeptides and their effects on the ion conducting properties of these peptides. Cyclic hexapeptides, cyclo(Pro-Xxx-Yyy)2, containing two Pro residues, were used as the main framework. The substitution is performed at the Xxx positions with cationic/hydrophilic Lys or hydrophobic Leu. Yyy positions were substituted with D-Phe, D-Ala, or Gly. The peptides which were absent Lys residues showed ion conducting profiles with clear transitions of electric currents, whereas the peptides containing Lys residues tended to exhibit spiky or burst-like profiles. These profiles were altered single state profiles by the protection of ε-amino groups with aromatic protecting groups. The protected analogs exhibited significant decrease in ion conductance. These results indicated that peptides containing Lys conduct ions without forming ring stacked tube-like structure. Ion channel properties were also affected by conformational changes of the cyclic peptides induced by substitution of the Yyy positions. Enhancement of intramolecular β-turn structures of cyclic peptides tended to decrease their ion conductance values

Transfer learning with affine model transformation

Supervised transfer learning has received considerable attention due to its potential to boost the predictive power of machine learning in scenarios where data are scarce. Generally, a given set of source models and a dataset from a target domain are used to adapt the pre-trained models to a target domain by statistically learning domain shift and domain-specific factors. While such procedurally and intuitively plausible methods have achieved great success in a wide range of real-world applications, the lack of a theoretical basis hinders further methodological development. This paper presents a general class of transfer learning regression called affine model transfer, following the principle of expected-square loss minimization. It is shown that the affine model transfer broadly encompasses various existing methods, including the most common procedure based on neural feature extractors. Furthermore, the current paper clarifies theoretical properties of the affine model transfer such as generalization error and excess risk. Through several case studies, we demonstrate the practical benefits of modeling and estimating inter-domain commonality and domain-specific factors separately with the affine-type transfer models.Comment: 34 page

The research about editing system of performance information for player piano - Make inferences about both handed musical composition by using DP matching system -

We have developed a system that allows a piano to perform automatically. In order to play music in the manner of a live pianist, we must add expression to the piano’s performance. Therefore, we have developed an interactive musical editing system that utilizes a database to edit music more efficiently. The 2021 International Conference on Artificial Life and Robotics (ICAROB 2021), January 21-24, 2021, Higashi-Hiroshima (オンライン開催に変更

    Pulmonary Cyst

Pulmonary cysts occupy an important place among diseases of the chest. and their treatment has to be considered by taking into account the pathologic condition of each disease. We have reported here the findings obtained through clinical experience of 6 cases of intrapulmonary bronchial cyst, 36 cases of giant bulla, and 127 cases of spontaneous pneumothorax, who were operated on during the past-odd 10 years at this hospital, with regard to the concept, pathologic condition, developmental mechanism, clinical symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of each disease

Typology of cities based on city biodiversity index: Exploring biodiversity potentials and possible collaborations among Japanese cities

    Get PDF
A City Biodiversity Index (CBI) has been proposed and applied at the international level to enable local municipalities and cities to manage biodiversity and ecosystem services in a sustainable manner. CBI databases are being constructed as global platforms, though the available dataset is limited. The land-use dataset is one of the datasets that can be utilized to apply the CBI on the national level in countries including Japan. To demonstrate the importance and potential of the CBI under the limitation of the available dataset, we attempted to apply the CBI to the 791 Japanese cities by using available land-use indicators, and categorized the cities based on the indicators. The focus of the CBI is self-assessment, but we propose that grouping of cities with similar profiles is possible and can serve as a basis for potential collaboration. Coordinating policies on various scales is necessary in order to enhance biodiversity on a global scale; one option is to increase collaboration among cities. As a result, we found three groups with similar characteristics amongst cities with forests, paddies, and croplands as major compositions in terms of biodiversity. These findings will contribute to policy formation and efficient information sharing for ecosystem services management. © 2015 by the authors
