Rings whose cyclics satisfy a certain property

In 1964, Osofsky proved that a ring R is semisimple artinian if and only if every cyclic right R-module is injective. Motivated by this result, there have been numerous studies in the rings whose cyclic modules satisfy a certain generalized injectivity condition. An up-to-date account of the literature on this subject can be found in [26]. Following this direction, in Chapter 2, we study the rings whose cyclics are C3-modules (or CC3-rings). We prove that a ring R is semisimple artinian if every 3-generated right R-module is a C3-module. Structure theorems of semiperfect CC3-rings and self-injective regular CC3-rings are obtained. Applications to rings whose 2-generated modules are C3-modules, and whose cyclics are quasi-continuous, are also addressed. In Chapter 3, we present basic properties of CD3-rings, i.e., rings whose cyclics are D3-modules. We show that a ring R is semisimple artinian if every 2-generated right R-module is a D3-module. Structure of self-injective regular CD3-rings is given. We characterize the rings whose cyclic modules are quasi-discrete and, respectively, discrete. In Chapter 4, we prove that a semiperfect module is lifting if and only if it has a projective cover preserving direct summands. This result is then used to characterize rings whose cyclics are lifting. New characterizations of artinian serial rings with Jacobson radical square-zero are obtained. Furthermore, we show that every cyclic right R-module is -supplemented if and only if every cyclic right R-module is a direct sum of local modules, and that artinian serial rings are exactly these rings for which every left and right module is a direct sum of local modules. In the last chapter, we present various properties, including a structure theorem and several characterizations, for δ-semiperfect modules. Our method can be adapted to generalize several known results of Mares and Nicholson from projective semiperfect modules to arbitrary semiperfect modules

Three-dimensional meshfree analysis of interlocking concrete blocks for step seawall structure

    Get PDF
This study adapts the flexible characteristic of meshfree method in analyzing three-dimensional (3D) complex geometry structures, which are the interlocking concrete blocks of step seawall. The elastostatic behavior of the block is analysed by solving the Galerkin weak form formulation over local support domain. The 3D moving least square (MLS) approximation is applied to build the interpolation functions of unknowns. The pre-defined number of nodes in an integration domain ranging from 10 to 60 nodes is also investigated for their effect on the studied results. The accuracy and efficiency of the studied method on 3D elastostatic responses are validated through the comparison with the solutions of standard finite element method (FEM) using linear shape functions on tetrahedral elements and the well-known commercial software, ANSYS. The results show that elastostatic responses of studied concrete block obtained by meshfree method converge faster and are more accurate than those of standard FEM. The studied meshfree method is effective in the analysis of static responses of complex geometry structures. The amount of discretised nodes within the integration domain used in building MLS shape functions should be in the range from 30 to 60 nodes and should not be less than 20 nodes

Static and vibration analysis of isotropic and functionally graded sandwich plates using an edge-based MITC3 finite elements

    Get PDF
Static and vibration analysis of isotropic and functionally graded sandwich plates using a higher-order shear deformation theory is presented in this paper. Lagrangian functional is used to derive the equations of motion. The mixed interpolation of tensorial components (MITC) approach and edge-based-strain technique is used to solve problems. A MITC3 three-node triangle element with 7 degree-of-freedoms per nodes that only requires the C0-type continuity is developed. Numerical results for isotropic and functionally graded sandwich plates with different boundary conditions are proposed to validate the developed theory and to investigate effects of material distribution, side-to-thickness ratio, thickness ratio of layers and boundary conditions on the deflection, stresses and natural frequencies of the plates

Fish distribution in the Ba Che and Tien Yen rivers

The ichthyo-fauna in the Ba Che and Tien Yen rivers, northern Vietnam is highly diverse, with a total of 245 species determined. However, data on the distribution of fish species are not sufficiently provided for the whole area. This study was conducted from 2008 to 2011 at 27 stations from the Ba Che and Tien Yen river basins to determine the distribution of fish species according to different sections of the rivers, water bodies, seasons, and salinity levels. The results show that fish species are distributed mainly in the river (with 210 species), concentrated in the downstream area (with 213 species). Fishes are mainly collected in the dry season when the salinity level of river is high, due to seawater intrusion which also brings in 160 species of marine fish. This shows that fish distribution in the research areas is mainly dominated by the presence of marine species. While for freshwater fish, it is clearly affected by the mountainous features. Apart from the common characteristics sharing between the two river basins, but the number of both freshwater and marine fish species in the Tien Yen river are larger than those of Ba Che river, which is related to fresh water surface, river morphology, the width and location of the estuary to the sea. The downstream area is home to the fish species recorded in the Red Data Book of Vietnam and the complementary species for Vietnam, while the middle and upstream of the rivers may offer a high potential of biodiversity, with many possibly new species for science. These are important data for the conservation and sustainable development of fish resources in the Ba Che and Tien Yen river basins.

NICKEL-BASED MULTIWALLED CARBON NANOTUBE COMPOSITE COATINGS

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been widely known as nanomaterials with excellent mechanical properties. Previous studies reported that the tensile strength of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was up to 63 GPa and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) could reach 150 GPa while the highest tensile strength of the steel was found to be about 1.8 GPa. SWCNTs could have Young’s modulus up to 1000 GPa that was much greater than the value of 209 GPa of steel. Therefore, there is a great potential to utilize CNTs as reinforced materials for composites in general and Ni electrodeposition coating in particular to improve hardness, durability, corrosion, and other physical and mechanical properties. This paper presents results of preparing and examining characteristics of the Nickel electrodeposition coatings containing MWCNTs (Ni-MWCNTs). The Ni-MWCNTs composite coatings deposited on a steel plate with the area of 0.4 dm2 using bipolar pulses at 470 Hz and 50oC in a 5-liter bath. Amount of CNTs varying from 1 g/l to 3 g/l was dispersed into the solution by using surfactants and ultrasonic vibration. CNTs used in the study was MWCNTs diameters in the range from 20 to 90 nanometers and few micrometers in length. The SEM, EDS, hardness and adhesion tests were conducted to analyze the properties of the electrodeposition coatings. The obtained results indicated that the hardness and adhesion of the Ni-CNTs coating were 1.5 and 1.46 times, respectively, higher than those of the Ni coating. In addition, adhesion of the Ni-CNTs coating was significantly improved

Analyses of stiffened plates resting on the viscoelastic foundation subjected to a moving vehicle by a cell-based smoothed triangular plate element

Recently, a cell-based smoothed discrete shear gap method (CS-FEM-DSG3) based on the firstorder shear deformation theory (FSDT) was proposed for static and free vibration analyses of Mindlin plates. The CS-FEM-DSG3 uses three-node triangular elements that can be easily generated automatically for arbitrary complicated geometric domains. This paper further extends the CS-FEMDSG3 for static, free vibration, and dynamic response of the stiffened plate resting on viscoelastic foundation subjected to a moving vehicle. The viscoelastic foundation is modeled by discrete springs and dampers whereas the stiffened plate can be considered as the combination between the Mindlin plate and the Timoshenko beam elements. The moving vehicle is transformed into one concentrated load at its central point. Some numerical examples are investigated and numerical results show that the CS-FEMDSG3 overcomes shear-locking phenomena and has a fast convergence. The results also illustrate the good agreement of the CS-FEM-DSG3 for static and free vibration analyses of un-stiffened plate compared with the previous published methods. In addition, the numerical results for dynamic analysis of stiffened plates by the CS-FEM-DSG3 also show the expected property in which the deflection of the stiffened plate is much smaller than those of the un-stiffened plate
