    Monte Carlo Simulation for Cost Forecasting in the Green Building Project

    Monte Carlo Simulation is a mathematical technique that generates random variables for modelling risk. This technique is suitable and benefits to the various client such as public and private sector to evaluate the costing prepared by the Quantity Surveyor.  The methodology used is a qualitative approach consisting of a case study and document analysis.     Facilities Management AUDIT in Managing Healing Facilities in Public Health Care Built Environment: User Satisfaction Viewpoint

    Healthcare organizations have recognized the powerful impact of supply breakdowns and have exploited supply chain management for their quality program, especially regarding lean operations. This study aims to investigate strategic Facilities Management (FM) as a function to support the objectives of providing efficient services to healthcare sector through measuring user satisfaction focusing on public training hospital building. This research involved correlation analysis of the results obtained. The findings show that there is a strong significant relationship among the building performance criteria and the importance of POE guidelines in functional and technical performance criteria.© 2016.     Health Care Building Assessment through Post Occupancy Audit

    Health care and hospital buildings are among the most complex construction in the built environment which comprises a broad range of utility, services, and functional units. The objectives of the study are to review the built environment performance level of the public teaching health care hospital in meeting user’s need. Three (3) public training health care hospitals in Selangor district in Malaysia are selected as a case study sample. Based on the finding the study revealed that the correlation coefficient between technical building performance and the importance of POE Guideline are positively correlated based on security, safety, and efficiency and health criteria.© 2016.     The Adoption of Sustainable Facilities Management Practices in Organisations: A study of Malaysian universities

    Globally, there is a growing trend among organisations towards promoting sustainability as an essential business strategy due to a high level of awareness about the impacts of their operations on the triple bottom line. This paper aims to examine the implementation of sustainability practices in an organisation focusing on universities. The objective was to determine sustainability adopted in facilities management (FM) practice concerning three different sustainability dimensions. Sixteen (16) interviews were conducted with the senior managerial level in selected universities. Among all dimensions, environmental sustainability was widely focused on having higher priorities for energy efficiency, waste reduction, and water conservation.     The Elderly (Senior) Housing Preferences among Generations in Malaysia

    The elderly (senior) is a unique generation with specific housing preferences. This study aims to provide an overview on the elderly housing preferences of the Malaysian generations. The objectives of this study are: (i) To define elderly; (ii) To identify the elderly housing preferences features; and (iii) To determine the elderly housing preferences by different age group (generations). The study adopts mixed-method strategy and revealed; (i) Health; (ii) Safety; (iii) Convenience; (iv) Amenity; and (v) Community as the preferred elderly housing features.     The Adoption of Sustainable Facilities Management (SFM) by the Hotel Industry

    Sustainability issues within the hotel industry are now increasingly known as a significant concern around the world. It has been described as a constituent activity that contributes to a significant impact on the environment. However, the concept of sustainable management is yet to be well received by the hotel industry in Malaysia. This paper aims to study the growing idea of Sustainable Facilities Management (SFM) adoption, specifically in the hotel industry. This paper provides valuable information on the theory of SFM evolution, including the meta-analysis on the SFM developing, trends and researchers around the world. This paper identified a total of 15 hospitality initiatives utilized around the globe, with only nine of them are currently employed and adopted by the hotel industry.     Positioning Strategic Sustainable Facilities Management (SFM) for Hotel Industry in Malaysia

    Sustainability issues in the hotel industry are significantly distressing matter. It has been expressed as a constituent interest to a negative impact on the environment. However, the sustainability management concept is yet to be established by the Malaysian hotel industry. The aim is to study Sustainable Facilities Management (SFM) practices in the hotel industry. This conceptual paper encompasses on evolution theory of SFM. Meta-analysis was conducted focusing on developing trends of SFM globally. The findings revealed that 9 out of 15 sustainable initiatives have been commonly practised. These initiatives are essential to gain holistic SFM practices in the hotel industry.     Developing a Conceptual Model for Strategic Knowledge Sharing of Facilities Management Protocol (FMP)

    The aim of this paper is to identify a key dimension of knowledge sharing strategy to improve Facilities Management Process of Protocol (FMP) in achieving facilities management organization performance. It investigates the key dimension of facilities management protocol strategy that can be adopted by the Facilities Management organizations and examines the problem related to IBS during the operational stages of maintenance management. An analysis of previous research provides an insight of the relationship between the IBS attribute and Facilities Management Protocol (FMP) component that can proposed a significant variable to improve the FM performance to solve problem related maintenance for IBS building. The review shows that a factor related to FM Protocol such as ‘operate and optimize facility’, ‘monitor and record facility condition’, ‘implement schedule maintenance work’, ‘manage inventory and spare part’, and ‘supervised vendor work’ was identified as a key dimension for FMP strategy to improve FM performance. Meanwhile a factor such as ‘diagnosing tools and assessment’, ‘systematic procurement procedure’, ‘complementary IBS input and information document’ and ‘handing over document’ was classified as a key factor to improve FM performance through adopting knowledge sharing strategy. This paper suggests that through improvement of each factor, the recognition of the whole strategic approach process in FMP can be increase thus helping to strengthen the facilities management organization for competitive advantages

    The Implementation of Sustainable Energy Initiatives in Campus Buildings

    The Adopt-A-Park Programme has Sustainable energy initiatives are one of the substantial measures toward achieving environmental sustainability goals and should be adopted by facilities management practices in university. This paper examined the sustainable energy initiatives implemented at three (3) participated universities with the objectives to identify the most current effective initiatives undertaken and to propose future improvement strategies. The perception of six (6) key persons was observed via a semi-structured interview. The most implemented strategies were establishing energy awareness programs, adopting energy-efficient appliances and equipment, managing time schedules, and implementing the prepaid metering system. The study suggested that the firm commitments and participation from all parties in universities are needed towards achieving a sustainable campus.
