Postseismic deformation following the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake detected by ALOS-2/PALSAR-2
I have been conducting a study of postseismic deformation following the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake using ALOS-2/PALSAR-2 acquired till 2018. I apply ionospheric correction to interferograms of ALOS-2/PALSAR-2. L-band SAR gives us high coherence enough to reveal surface deformation even in vegetated or mountainous area for pairs of images acquired more than 2 years. Postseismic deformation following the Kumamoto earthquake exceeds 10 cm during 2 years at some spots in and around Kumamoto city and Aso caldera. Westward motion of ~ 6 cm/year was dominant on the southeast side of the Hinagu fault, while westward shift was detected on both sides of the Futagawa fault. The area of latter deformation seems to have correlation with distribution of pyroclastic flow deposits. Significant uplift was found around the eastern Futagawa fault and on the southwestern frank of Aso caldera, whose rate reaches 4 cm/year. There are sharp changes across several coseismic surface ruptures such as Futagawa, Hinagu, and Idenokuchi faults. Rapid subsidence between Futagawa and Idenokuchi faults also found. It is confirmed that local subsidence continued along the Suizenji fault, which newly appeared during the mainshock in Kumamoto City. Subsidence with westward shift of up to 4 cm/year was also found in Aso caldera. Time constant of postseismic decay ranges from 1 month to 600 days at selected points, but that postseismic deformation during the first epochs or two is dominant at point in the Kumamoto Plain. This result suggests multiple source of deformation. Westward motion around the Hinagu fault may be explained with right lateral afterslip on the shallow part of this fault. Subsidence along the Suizenji fault can be attributed to normal faulting on dipping westward. Deformation around the Hinagu and Idenokuchi faults cannot be explained with right lateral afterslip of Futagawa fault, which requires other sources. Deformation in northern part of Aso caldera might be the result of right lateral afterslip on a possible buried fault
Atomic Motion in Single H and D Molecule Junction Induced by Phonon Excitation
We have investigated Au atomic contacts in H and D environment by
conductance measurement and spectroscopy. A single H or D
molecule was found to bridge Au electrodes. In the case of the Au/H/Au
junction, symmetric peaks were observed in spectra, while they were not
observed for the Au/D/Au junction. The shape of the peaks in
spectra originated from the structural change of the single molecule junction
induced by the phonon excitation. The structural change could occur only for
the Au/H/Au junction. The difference in the two single molecule junctions
could be explained by larger zero point energy of Au-H vibration mode
than that in the Au/H/Au junction.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, to be appear in Phys. Rev.
Real-Time 6D Object Pose Estimation on CPU
We propose a fast and accurate 6D object pose estimation from a RGB-D image.
Our proposed method is template matching based and consists of three main
technical components, PCOF-MOD (multimodal PCOF), balanced pose tree (BPT) and
optimum memory rearrangement for a coarse-to-fine search. Our model templates
on densely sampled viewpoints and PCOF-MOD which explicitly handles a certain
range of 3D object pose improve the robustness against background clutters. BPT
which is an efficient tree-based data structures for a large number of
templates and template matching on rearranged feature maps where nearby
features are linearly aligned accelerate the pose estimation. The experimental
evaluation on tabletop and bin-picking dataset showed that our method achieved
higher accuracy and faster speed in comparison with state-of-the-art techniques
including recent CNN based approaches. Moreover, our model templates can be
trained only from 3D CAD in a few minutes and the pose estimation run in near
real-time (23 fps) on CPU. These features are suitable for any real
applications.Comment: accepted to IROS 201

Novel macrolactam compound produced by the heterologous expression of a large cryptic biosynthetic gene cluster of Streptomyces rochei IFO12908
In the course of our studies on the heterologous expression of giant biosynthetic genes, we discovered a novel cryptic biosynthetic gene cluster in Streptomyces rochei IFO12908. During our efforts to express biosynthetic genes using the host SUKA strain derived from Streptomyces avermitilis, a novel polyene macrolactam compound designated as JBIR-156 was produced. We report herein the cloning and heterologous expression of the JBIR-156 biosynthetic gene cluster, and the isolation, structure determination, and cytotoxic activity of this novel compound
