Investigating the Impact of Market Power on Foreign Direct Investment Absorption in Concentrated and Unconcentrated Industries in Iran
The central purpose of this thesis is investigating the relationship between market structure and absorption of foreign direct investment in Iran manufacturing industries. Four firm concentration ratio and Herfindal-Hirschman index are used to measure market power. Analysis of these indexes determines the concentrated and monopoly in the market and also provides a good background for understanding the relationship between market structure with FDI. In other words, this research seeks to answer that the 10 industries in ISIC based on two-digit code in Iran industries during 1996 to 2008 have what market structure (concentrated or unconcentrated) and what effect it has on absorption of FDI. Using regression analysis and panel data model, estimation results of model showed that there is a negative relationship between concentrated market structure with absorption of FDI. In Iran industries there is a positive relationship between export and economic scales with FDI. Keywords: Foreign Direct Investment, Market Power, Market Structure
Endocrine cell dysplasia (nesidioblastosis): A relatively unrecognized entity in Pakistan?
Nesidioblastosis is quantitative as well as qualitative abnormality of pancreatic endocrine cells. There is scattering of small endocrine cell clusters arranged haphazardly rather than the peripheral location within the lobule1,2. Islet contours are irregular, tailing off into parenchyma3. These islets are present in intimate association with ducts forming ductuloinsular complexes1 We recently encountered a new born baby with signs and symptoms of endocrine cell dysplasia
Buyer Paying Lower Price of Bangladeshi Apparel: An Empirical Investigation on Causes
In the last few decades RMG sector has been acted as backbone of economy of Bangladesh. It consumed about 80% of foreign earning. In the recent time, it has been noticed that buyers are not interested to pay the equal price of garments from Bangladesh and from other countries although the quality remains same. For instance, per square meter priced 5.37 from Malaysia where $ 2.79 from Bangladesh. The main aim of this study is to find the causes of this. For this descriptive research method was followed and data were collected from secondary sources like case studies, journals, thesis papers, online newspapers, research articles, garments manufacturing industries annual reports, newspapers, survey reports, and BGMEA yearly report. After the study, it was observed that due to lack of diversified products, image crisis, poor negotiation techniques, labor and political unrest are the main reason behind this
Effect of Foliar Application of GA3 and Zinc on Growth, Yield and Quality of Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch) Tioga cv.
This investigation was carried out during growing season (2015 – 2016) on Strawberry (Fragaria X ananassa Duch) Tioga cv.  Planted in the farm of college of Agriculture, university of Duhok, Kurdistan regions / Iraq to study the effect of GA3 with concentration (0, 100, 200 and 300 mg.L-1), and Zinc with concentration (0, 2 and 4 g.L-1), on growth, yield and quality ofstrawberry plant. According to the obtained results the GA3 and Zinc spraying especially at (300 mg.L-1 and 4g.L-1) respectively caused to improve most of the studied parameters, except of total acidity, decreased with increasing GA3 and Zinc concentrations. The interaction between GA3 and Zinc at high concentration resulted in the maximum values of leaf area (30.81cm), leaf chlorophyll content (42.53 SPAD), number of fruit per plant (21.07), yield (269.63g.plant-1), Total soluble solids (8.00 %) and anthocyanin (25.43 mg.100-1 g F. Wt).
Perception, career choice and self-efficacy of UK medical students and junior doctors in urology
Introduction:Â there is a growing concern
about the reduced clinical exposure to urology at undergraduate level in
the United Kingdom. As a consequence, the competencies of junior
doctors are considered inadequate. The views of these doctors in
training towards urology remain under reported. Methods:Â a modified Delphi method was employed to construct a questionnaire.
Given the rise of social media as a platform for scientific discussion,
participants were recruited via a social networking site. Outcomes
assessed included career preference, exposure to urology, perceived male
dominance, and confidence at core procedures. Results:Â in total, 412 and 66 responses were collected from medical students and
junior doctors, respectively. Overall, 41% of participants felt that
they had received a good level of clinical exposure to urology as part
of their training and 15% were considering a career in this speciality.
Female students were significantly less likely to consider urology as a
career option (p < 0.01). Of these, 37% of the students felt
confident at male catheterization and 46% of students regarded urology
as a male-dominated speciality. Conclusions:Â urology is perceived as male dominated and is the least likely surgical
speciality to be pursued as a career option according to our survey.
Increased exposure to urology at the undergraduate level and dedicated
workshops for core urological procedures are needed to address these
challenges.</p
Clinicopathological profile of Wilms tumor
The profile of renal tumors in children less than 15 years of age during the period 1991-1997 is presented. Among the 37 children with kidney tumors, 29 (78.4%) had Wilms\u27 tumor. There was also a 20-year-old female with Wilms\u27 tumor. The median age at presentation was 2.6 years (range 2.5 months to 20 years). 66.7% of the cases diagnosed were \u3c or = 3 years and 90% were \u3c or = 6 years. Five cases were under one year of age. The male to female ratio was 2:1. Twenty-two cases (73.3%) were triphasic and 7 (23.3%) were biphasic. Only one case was monophasic with blastemal component. Five cases (16.7%) showed nephrogenic rests in the uninvolved renal parenchyma and one case had nephroblastomatosis. The tumor was favorable in 26 cases (86.7%) and unfavorable in 4. Fourteen cases were in-patients while 16 were outside referrals. The pathological (10 cases whose specimens were sent from other centers) and clinicopathological (13 hospitalized patients) staging showed 10 cases (43.5%) with stage 1, 4 cases (17.4%) with stage 2, and 7 cases (30.4%) with stage 3. In two cases (8.7%), there was stage 4 disease. The length of the follow-up period in the 13 hospitalized patients ranged from 7 days to 5 years 5 months (median 14 months). There was one recurrence and one death after 2 years of diagnosis
Interface magnetism in Fe2O3/FeTiO3-heterostructures
To resolve the microscopic origin of magnetism in the Fe2O3/FeTiO3-system, we
have performed density functional theory calculations taking into account
on-site Coulomb repulsion. By varying systematically the concentration,
distribution and charge state of Ti in a hematite host, we compile a phase
diagram of the stability with respect to the end members and find a clear
preference to form layered arrangements as opposed to solid solutions. The
charge mismatch at the interface is accommodated through Ti4+ and a
disproportionation in the Fe contact layer into Fe2+, Fe3+, leading to
uncompensated moments in the contact layer and giving first theoretical
evidence for the lamellar magnetism hypothesis. This interface magnetism is
associated with impurity levels in the band gap showing halfmetallic behavior
and making Fe2O3/FeTiO3 heterostructures prospective materials for spintronics
applications.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Pattern of social media engagements by the learners of a library and information science MOOC course: an analytical study
This study aims to highlight the popularity of Emerging Trends & Technologies in Library & Information Services (ETTLIS) course and investigate the learners' involvement using the YouTube Channel and Discussion Forum of the course. The authors statistically analyzed the learner's engagement in the course by using social media channels. It was found that the learners' active participation in the online discussion forum saw an increase from time to time, and the performance of social media involvement also got popularized through the YouTube channel. The paper, based on social media analytics of the course ETTLIS, suggests the possibility of the development of a set of stable performance indicators based on online engagements in LMS platforms
