    Hara-kiri through anal orifice: a first-of-its-kind case.

    Get PDF
Constipation and obstruction are distressing problems which not promptly treated can lead to dangerous complications. A common and potentially dangerous gastrointestinal problem is faecal impaction. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment avoids complications. Apart from manual extraction proximal and distal washout are the available options. However, the key lies in identifying the etiology of the problems and nipping it in the bud. We here present a first-of-its-kind case in which a female pulled out about 2 feet of her large intestine from her anal orifice after experiencing constipation for a period of two days. Damage control surgery was done and the patient was left with a permanent illeostomy

    `Commerciality` in International Commercial Arbitration

    Get PDF
Enterprises, the world over, now conduct business on a dramatically more international scale. The growth of world economies is directly connected with millions of commercial contracts, which are becoming more international in character owing to global integration. Commercial arbitration has been hailed as the most efficient form of dispute settlement available to participants in international trade. As the purpose of the commercial arbitration is to resolve commercial disputes, often issues have been raised whether a particular dispute is commercial or not. With globalisation and seamless trade the aspirations of global business community, it would be of immense importance to understand the meaning of ‘commercial’ as construed in ‘international commercial arbitration’ in some of the major jurisdictions of the world.

Management of Storage Pest and Pathogens of Oat Seeds Using Low Input and Ecofriendly Methods

Indigenous Traditional knowledge (ITK) is the local knowledge unique to a given culture or society. It is the basis for local-level decision making in agriculture, health care, food preparation, natural-resource management and a host of other activities in rural communities. Storage structures and locally available plant products were used to store seeds and to ward off seed pests and pathogens. In different parts of India, different types of containers are used locally to store different crop seeds, according to the availability and climatic conditions. Sundaramari et. al. (2011) advocated the importance of indigenous storage structures for safe storage of grains in South Tamil Nadu, which can be applied to other parts of the country. Among forages, oat is an important crop during Rabi season particularly in Northern India. This crop is characterized by its quick growth, high forage and grain yield, more dry matter content, leafiness, better palatability as well as suitable for excellent silage. The storage of oat seed is influenced by biotic factors viz., insect-pest and pathogens. In the present study seeds of oat were stored after their treatment with different types of locally available plant products/botanicalsin different types of locally available storage containers and are compared with the chemical treatments and modern storage

It’s more than memes: User risk appetite and app enjoyment predict simulated mobile trading app behavior

    Get PDF
Mobile trading application users have rocked the financial world and are becoming a noteworthy for their ability to contribute to financial uncertainty, often at great risk to their personal wealth. While participation in meme stock culture likely contributes to this risky behavior, other factors such as personal risk appetite and enjoyment could also explain a user’s willingness to engage in risky actions on these platforms. In this paper, we describe the results of an experiment whereby participants engaged in a simulated financial trading task designed to mimic the Robinhood trading app. We took a mixed method approach to investigating users’ experiences, using time-series machine learning clustering as well as questionnaire measures. We identified distinct clusters of users based on app usage data which reflected degrees of risky behavior and found that these features were associated with a user’s perceived risk appetite and the degree to which they enjoyed the simulated technology. Taken together with past evidence that suggests that risk appetite and enjoyment are associated with application use, we posit that these factors play a role in explaining risky behavior on mobile trading platforms, which has implications for financial application design and future research on financial technology applications

An FPGA based Efficient Fruit Recognition System Using Minimum Distance Classifier

    Get PDF
The paper deals with a simple yet effective fruit identification system developed on an FPGA, SPARTAN 3(XC3S200-5PQ208) platform .The fruits under consideration were apple, banana, sapodilla and strawberry. Out of these selected fruits there were four different classes of apples, two different classes of sapodillas and one class each of the other two fruits. A total of 800 color images, 200 images of each fruit of size 64x64 were used for training. The fruit identification success rate mainly depends on the feature vector and the Classifier used. The 3D feature vector incorporates two first order statistical features and the shape feature. Using the 3D feature vector the MATLAB analysis of The Minimum Distance Classifier (MID) fetched a success rate of 85%.The Verilog coded Hardware platform was developed by burning the COE file of a Test image generated by JAVA ECLIPSE IDE onto the IP core. The MATLAB results were verified using the Hardware Platform. Keywords: RGB image, feature vector, MID, Verilog, FPGA, IP core, COE file

Knowledge, attitudes and practices of medical researchers toward authorship in scientific journals

    Get PDF
Background: The knowledge, attitudes and practices of scientific authorship vary across different regions. We conducted this study to understand this variation among medical researchers in India. Methods: An anonymous web-based researcher-survey invited all faculty, researchers and PhD students at Pacific institute of Medical sciences, Udaipur, India. The study design and the questionnaire were approved by the institutional ethics committee.  Basic information on study was given to obtain consent for participation. The 30 questions on authorship experience and related issues were based on the statements in International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and other national and international recommendations on authorship. Participants reported their authorship experiences and answered multiple choice questionnaires. Results: The response rate was 36.36% among the participants, who were post-graduate with up to 10 years of research experience. About 62.5% had not been appropriately acknowledged as authors at some point during their career. Contributors (authorship) and ethical peer review is perceived as the key principle of research integrity. Though, single authorship was regarded as more significant, interdisciplinary management of diseases increases number of co-authors. A platform to challenge authorship, declaration of contribution in authorship and shared responsibility of co-authors in case of fraudulent publication was majority opinion. Conclusions: Almost 50 of the participant medical researchers had knowledge of formal authorship requirements. Majority agreed with the criteria would help in decreasing the authorship dispute in the medical research. There is need for awareness and continuous education on these criteria
