I introduce and define Quantum Chromodynamics. I describe various well-known nonperturbative techniques for calculating quantities from the theory and discuss their merits and deficiencies. I then motivate and define a non-relativistic formulation (NRQCD) of the theory. I discuss the mechanics of the extraction of numbers from numerical simulations, and present general arguments as to the expected form of these data. I present results and details of their extraction from simulations of heavy-heavy and heavy-light mesons using NRQCD. I compare these results with those from other calculations and with experimental data, where they exist. I make suggestions for further work. An appendix contains details of the code used in the simulation together with the input parameters of the simulation

Deep Space Habitability Design Guidelines Based on the NASA NextSTEP Phase 2 Ground Test Program

This report summarizes habitation design guidelines for deep space habitats, which were derived from the NASA Next Space Technologies for Exploration Partnerships (NextSTEP) Phase 2 Habitat Ground Test Program. All data presented in this document have been contractor-deidentified and approved for public release. The report prioritizes capabilities and recommends allocating those capabilities to either the Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO) or the International Habitat (I-Hab). A review of the design guidelines is presented in the main body of the report, along with a list of the 170 specific design guidelines with references to the specific data sources from which they were derived

Business sectors, occupations and aggregations of census data 1851-1911

This paper discusses alternative aggregations that can be used to code business sectors using the census information on different occupations and employment status categories of entrepreneurs and workers. The paper discusses how sector aggregations can be constructed that classify business proprietors by the type of economic activity in which they were engaged, and also the sector of activity for those that were clearly not entrepreneurs. It defines two classifications at two levels of aggregation that are used in subsequent analysis: ID18 and ID50 used for sector/entrepreneurship coding; and EA17 and EA51 used for sector/whole economically active coding. It compares this coding with the more detailed coding in I-CeM, that used for the PST occupational classification system devised by Wrigley, and with the codes used in modern mainstream industrial classifications of sectors and occupational groups

Identifying businesses and entrepreneurs in the Censuses 1851-1881

This paper describes how individual entrepreneurs can be identified and extracted from the original Census Enumerators Books (CEBs) for 1851-81. It describes the early censuses and the method through which different groups of entrepreneurs can be identified, extracted and parsed, particularly focusing on identifying employee numbers of the businesses. It distinguishes between: employers with employees; own account proprietors; and people owning certain business assets. Constraints in the data are summarized and how information was infilled from other sources to correct for the substantial gaps and truncations in the I-CeM electronic records of the census, especially for 1851, 1861 and 1871

Drivers of Entrepreneurship and Small Businesses: Project overview and database design

The census 1851-1911 provides a resource of information on employers and small firms that allows 200,000 – 2m individual entrepreneurs per year to be identified and the population of businesses to be estimated. This information has not been previous systematically available or researched. This paper outlines how information can be extracted from the population census, the way in which gaps and truncations in the I-CeM electronic records of the census of businesses can be overcome, and how the data can be enriched. The paper outlines how entrepreneurship is defined from the census and other records, how entrepreneurship rates can be calculated, and how database has been created that is as complete and consistent as possible to be deposited at UKDA

Intra-arterial cisplatin for the treatment of malignant gliomas

Cisplatin (DDP) is a chemotherapeutic agent that has shown efficacy against primary CNS malignancies. Intraarterial (IA) administration of DDP to patients with brain tumors should produce higher peak levels of drug than intravenous (IV) administration of an identical dose and reduce systemic toxicity. Twelve patients with malignant glioma were entered into the study. All had failed irradiation, 11 had failed IA BCNU. Each patient received IA DDP, 58–100 mg/m 2 , into the internal carotid artery at four to six week intervals. One of 12 patients had a partial response of 6 months. The remaining 11 patients had progressive disease [10] or severe complications [1]. Toxicity included seizures in four patients, weakness and/or aphasia in four patients, coma in two patients, and visual deterioration in two patients. IA DDP has very limited efficacy in patients with malignant gliomas after failure of nitrosoureas and is associated with an unacceptable level of toxicity.
