Inter-Subjectivity and Worker Self-Disclosure in Professional Relationships With Young People: A Psychosocial Study of Youth Violence and Desistance
This article argues that psychosocial theory can enhance understanding of intersubjective dynamics between workers and young people involved in crime and violence. After introducing some conceptual tools from psychoanalysis and post‐structural theory, a case study follows a worker's efforts to bring about a young man's desistance (including the worker's use of self‐disclosure) and how this is stymied by systemic failings in a homeless hostel in the UK. The article concludes that professional work in services targeted at young people with multiple support needs requires a deep sensibility to intersubjective and unconscious dynamics within professional relationships and organisations

The studies in this issue not only provide an overview of the multitude of forms a constructivist learning environment can take, they also provide the reader with an overview of recent advances in this domain of research. The present discussion article provides a critical reflection on the studies in this special issue and tries to identify their prospects and limitations
Indian patient use of cancer euphemisms: Association with psychological outcomes and health behaviours
Objective: Euphemisms may be used to reduce the threat associated with the word “cancer.” Cancer may be particularly threatening in Indian culture due to the myths surrounding its cause and prognosis. This study explored the prevalence of euphemism use by Indian patients and the relationship among euphemism use and illness cognitions, affect, health behaviour, and spontaneous self-affirmation (a behaviour associated with dealing with threat).
Methods: In total, 350 cancer patients in India were recruited to take part in a study exploring patients' experiences of, and thoughts about, having an illness. They responded to a questionnaire measuring illness perceptions, coping strategies, anxiety, depression, health behaviours, and spontaneous self-affirmation. Patients were asked what words they used to describe their illness; euphemism users were those who used a euphemism (ie, non-medical term) as a first word.
Results: About 51% of patients used a euphemism as a first word. Those with less education, unskilled employment, a lower income, and more children were more likely to be euphemism users. Euphemism users reported (a) weaker illness perceptions (less personal control, greater reporting of symptoms, and less understanding of their condition), (b) less use of 3 of 14 coping strategies, (c) less likelihood of spontaneously self-affirming, and (d) fewer healthy eating days.
Conclusions: Euphemism use in patients was not related to distress but was related to negative illness perceptions and use of fewer coping strategies, suggesting that we need further study about the extent to which euphemisms signal issues in psychological adaptation to cancer diagnosis

Ultraviolet and blue cathodoluminescence from cubic Y2O3 and Y2O3: Eu3+ generated in a transmission electron microscope
Herein we describe the investigation of transmission electron microscopeof non-doped Y2O3 and Y2O3 doped with Eu3+ in a transmission electron microscope (TEM) equipped with a spectrometer to detect cathodoluminescence from individual particles. Each submicron particle was made up of nanometre sized crystals. We found that these crystals showed a broad emission band at 353 nm upon bombardment with 200 keV or 80 keV electrons. Upon increasing the Eu3+ concentration from 0 to 2 mol% this UV/blue emission was gradually quenched: at Eu3+ concentrations >2 mol% no UV/blue emission was detected, only the well-known cathodoluminescence (CL) spectrum of Y2O3:Eu3+ could be recorded. This UV/blue emission has been attributed to the intrinsic luminescence of Y2O3 caused by self-trapped excitons. We found that the UV/blue luminescence was strongly temperature dependent and that the trap depth of the self-trapped excitons was 0.14 eV. The ratios of the spectral radiances of 5D1 → 7FJ and 5D0 → 7FJ (J = 0, 1...6) Eu3+ transitions in the CL-TEM spectra of Y2O3:Eu3+ at low Eu3+ concentrations was about a factor of 10 larger than those recorded at 15 keV. The Category of Node-and-Choice Forms, with Subcategories for Choice-Sequence Forms and Choice-Set Forms
The literature specifies extensive-form games in many styles, and eventually
I hope to formally translate games across those styles. Toward that end, this
paper defines , the category of node-and-choice forms. The
category's objects are extensive forms in essentially any style, and the
category's isomorphisms are made to accord with the literature's small handful
of ad hoc style equivalences.
Further, this paper develops two full subcategories: for
forms whose nodes are choice-sequences, and for forms whose
nodes are choice-sets. I show that is "isomorphically enclosed"
in in the sense that each form is isomorphic to
a form. Similarly, I show that is
isomorphically enclosed in in the sense that each
form with no-absentmindedness is isomorphic to a
form. The converses are found to be almost immediate, and the
resulting equivalences unify and simplify two ad hoc style equivalences in
Kline and Luckraz 2016 and Streufert 2019.
Aside from the larger agenda, this paper already makes three practical
contributions. Style equivalences are made easier to derive by [1] a natural
concept of isomorphic invariance and [2] the composability of isomorphic
enclosures. In addition, [3] some new consequences of equivalence are

The pre-main sequence binary HK Ori : Spectro-astrometry and EXPORT data
In this paper we present multi-epoch observations of the pre-main sequence
binary HK Ori. These data have been drawn from the EXPORT database and are
complemented by high quality spectro-astrometric data of the system. The
spectroscopic data appear to be very well represented by a combination of an A
dwarf star spectrum superposed on a (sub-)giant G-type spectrum. The radial
velocity of the system is consistent with previous determinations, and does not
reveal binary motion, as expected for a wide binary. The spectral, photometric
and polarimetric properties and variability of the system indicate that the
active object in the system is a T Tauri star with UX Ori characteristics. The
spectro-astrometry of HK Ori is sensitive down to milli-arcsecond scales and
confirms the speckle interferometric results from Leinert et al. The
spectro-astrometry allows with fair certainty the identification of the active
star within the binary, which we suggest to be a G-type T Tauri star based on

Morphological evidence for geologically young thaw of ice on Mars: a review of recent studies using high-resolution imaging data
Liquid water is generally only meta-stable on Mars today; it quickly freezes, evaporates or boils in the cold, dry, thin atmosphere (surface pressure is about 200 times lower than on Earth). Nevertheless, there is morphological evidence that surface water was extensive in more ancient times, including the Noachian Epoch (~4.1 Ga to ~3.7 Ga bp), when large lakes existed and river-like channel networks were incised, and early in the Hesperian Epoch (~3.7 Ga to ~2.9 Ga bp), when megafloods carved enormous channels and smaller fluvial networks developed in association with crater-lakes. However, by the Amazonian Epoch (~3.0 Ga to present), most surface morphogenesis associated with liquid water had ceased, with long periods of water sequestration as ice in the near-surface and polar regions. However, inferences from observations using imaging data with sub-metre pixel sizes indicate that periglacial landscapes, involving morphogenesis associated with ground-ice and/or surface-ice thaw and liquid flows, has been active within the last few million years. In this paper, three such landform assemblages are described: a high-latitude assemblage comprising features interpreted to be sorted clastic stripes, circles and polygons, non-sorted polygonally patterned ground, fluvial gullies, and solifluction lobes; a mid-latitude assemblage comprising gullies, patterned ground, debris-covered glaciers and hillslope stripes; and an equatorial assemblage of linked basins, patterned ground, possible pingos, and channel-and-scarp features interpreted to be retrogressive thaw-slumps. Hypotheses to explain these observations are explored, including recent climate change, and hydrated minerals in the regolith ‘thawing’ to form liquid brines at very low temperatures. Ethical challenges in nephrology : a call for action
The American Society of Nephrology, the European Renal Association-European Dialysis and Transplant Association and the International Society of Nephrology Joint Working Group on Ethical Issues in Nephrology have identified ten broad areas of ethical concern as priority challenges that require collaborative action. Here, we describe these challenges - equity in access to kidney failure care, avoiding futile dialysis, reducing dialysis costs, shared decision-making in kidney failure care, living donor risk evaluation and decision-making, priority setting in kidney disease prevention and care, the ethical implications of genetic kidney diseases, responsible advocacy for kidney health and management of conflicts of interest - with the aim of highlighting the need for ethical analysis of specific issues, as well as for the development of tools and training to support clinicians who treat patients with kidney disease in practising ethically and contributing to ethical policy-making.
Here, the ASN-ERA-EDTA-ISN Joint Working Group on Ethical Issues in Nephrology highlights ten areas of ethical concern as priority challenges that require collaborative action and discusses the need for development of ethical training and guidance tools to manage these issues
Neoliberalisation and 'lad cultures' in higher education
This paper links HE neoliberalisation and ‘lad cultures’, drawing on interviews and focus groups with women students. We argue that retro-sexist ‘laddish’ forms of masculine competitiveness and misogyny have been reshaped by neoliberal rationalities to become modes of consumerist sexualised audit. We also suggest that neoliberal frameworks scaffold an individualistic and adversarial culture among young people that interacts with perceived threats to men’s privilege and intensifies attempts to put women in their place through misogyny and sexual harassment. Furthermore, ‘lad cultures’, sexism and sexual harassment in higher education may be invisibilised by institutions to preserve marketability in a neoliberal context. In response, we ask if we might foster dialogue and partnership between feminist and anti-marketisation politics
