The Immersion Coating of Indium upon Magnesium from Sulphate Solutions Containing Flourides
The thesis problem that will be discussed in this report is an investigation of a method of plating a coating of indium upon magnesium and magnesium alloys. The method used to accomplish the final results is the immersion process. It can be defined as the process of coating a metal with a second metal by immersing the first in a solution containing ions of the second

Concepts and applications of wireless security systems for tactical, portable, and fixed sites
Intrusion detection systems sometimes use radio signals to convey sensor status in areas that wire conduits do not service or as a redundant path to wired systems. Some applications benefit from radio technology by minimizing setup time and reducing installation and operation costs. In recent years with the explosion in wireless communications, these radio-based security systems have become more capable while lowering costs, size, and power consumption. However, the very nature of radio communication raises issues regarding setup, operation, and security of these systems. Sandia National Laboratories, in cooperation with government and industry, has addressed many of these issues through the analysis and development of security systems, communications protocols, and operational procedures. Message encryption and frequent channel supervision are used to enhance security. Installation and maintenance of these systems are simplified by incorporating built-in radio link analysis, menu-driven configuration equipment, and other techniques. Commercial communications satellites and spread-spectrum radios are also being integrated to provide unique capabilities to the security community. The status of this work is presented here along with details of its development
Banning Commercial Foresting: What are the Costs?
The Philippines' forest cover has suffered from massive denudation through the years due to uncontrolled and indiscriminate commercial logging. Because of this, calls for a total logging ban had been raised in various fora, including in the legislature where bills that consider the possibility of a ban are being studied. However, the possible economic costs of such ban as espoused in some studies has delayed the passage of these bills. This Policy Notes provides some economic costing based on computations that may help in firming up decisions regarding the proposed ban.forestry sector, environmental issues, environmental management
The Effectiveness of Melatonin for Insomnia in Older Adults: A Systematic Review
Background: Age-related insomnia is a condition affecting over so% of those aged 65 years and older, and is characterized by difficulties in sleep onset and maintenance. Poor sleep is associated with cognitive impairment, daytime sleepiness, injuries, and decreased quality oflife. Common insomnia pharmacologic therapies often result in side effects and the development of tolerance. Purpose: To review the evidence of the effectiveness of melatonin (MLT) for insomnia in adults 65 years and older? Methods: A priori study inclusion criteria included: study subjects aged 65 or older, male or female; randomized, placebo-controlled trial; objective outcome measures to include either sleep log or diary, actigraphy and/ or overnight polysomnography. To identify relevant studies, articles published from 1966 to March 2004 were retrieved from the online databases: MEDLINE, CINAHL, Psychinfo, DARE, Cochrane, and EBM Reviews. MEDLINE (via PubMed) was searched using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH terms) Sleep Initiation and Maintenance Disorders and Melatonin. A total of 121 English language journal articles were identified using this search strategy. All but 4 of these were excluded due to lack of randomization, inclusions of subjects less than 65 years, or failure to include objective data regarding sleep parameters. Results: Four crossover-designed studies of melatonin included 74 insomniacs aged 65 years or older. In three of four randomized, placebocontrolled trials, sleep efficiency was significantly improved compared to placebo, while sleep latency was significantly improved in two, with a trend toward significance in a third. In two others, total sleep time improved significantly. Further, in all but one of the included studies, melatonin significantly improved at least one actigraphic measure of sleep quality. Discussion: The results of this systematic review suggest that melatonin may be effective in improving two objective measures of insomnia, sleep efficiency and sleep latency. Although melatonin may be a safe alternative to standard hypnotic therapy, its use will be limited until more information is available regarding appropriate patient selection and dosing, especially when effective therapies exist (e.g., cognitive behavioral, standard hypnotics). This information will need to be obtained from much larger, well-designed, randomized controlled trials.Master of Public Healt
