This study aims to identify the existence of spatial dependence of property crime at sub-district level in the case of Jakarta, Tangerang, Depok, and Bekasi (Jadetabek), the major metropolitan area in Indonesia over 2010 period. Empirical results by using spatial autoregressive suggest the existence of positive spatial autocorrelation of property crime in Jadetabek. We also find the determinants of property crime is related to per capita household expenditure, number of youth unemployment, number of young population, number of drags abuse case, and percentage of case solved

Households, Financial Distress, and Predatory Lending: an Experimental Study

A substantial part of households and micro enterprises, particularly in developing countriesincluding Indonesia, did not have access to formal financial institutions which thenlead them to borrow money from illegal loan providers. Using an experimental study, wetested whether predatory loan, an illegal short-term loan with high interest rate, waspreferable or not by comparing with pawnshop loan, bank loan and household's limitedsaving when households confront with financial distress. We divided the participantsinto three groups: lower low, low, and upper low income. We found that predatory loanwas preferable especially for lower low and low income group. Result also confirmedthat even if the predatory loan charge was increased, the lower low- and low-incomegroups still prefer to ease their financial distress through predatory loans. Moreover, thelonger the duration of the predatory loan, the higher its probability to be chosen as afunding source in times of household financial distress

Evaluation of GPM IMERG Performance Using Gauge Data over Indonesian Maritime Continent at Different Time Scales

Accurate precipitation observations are crucial for water resources management and as inputs for a gamut of hydrometeorological applications. Precipitation data from Integrated Multi-Satellite Retrievals for Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) (IMERG) have recently been widely used to complement traditional rain gauge systems. However, the satellite precipitation data needs to be validated before being widely used in the applications and this is still missing over the Indonesian maritime continent (IMC). We conducted a validation of the IMERG product version 6 for this region. The evaluation was carried out using gauge data in the period from 2016 to 2020 for three types of IMERG: Early (E), Late (L), and Final (F) from annual, monthly, daily and hourly data. In general, the annual and monthly data from IMERG showed a good correlation with the rain gauge, with the mean correlation coefficient (CC) approximately 0.54–0.78 and 0.62–0.79, respec-tively. About 80% of stations in the IMC area showed a very good correlation between gauge data and IMERG-F estimates (CC = 0.7–0.9). For the daily assessment, the CC value was in the range of 0.39 to 0.44 and about 40% of stations had a correlation of 0.5–0.7. IMERG had a fairly good ability to detect daily rain in which the average probability of detection (POD) for all stations was above 0.8. However, the false alarm ratio (FAR) value is quite high (<0.5). For hourly data, IMERG’s performance was still poor with CC around 0.03–0.28. For all assessments, IMERG generally overesti-mated rainfall in comparison with rain gauge. The accuracy of the three types of IMERG in IMC was also influenced by season and topography. The highest and lowest CC values were observed for June–July–August and December–January–February, respectively. However, categorical statistics (POD, FAR and critical success index) did not show any clear seasonal variation. The CC value decreased with higher altitude, but with slight difference for each IMERG type. For all assessments conducted, IMERG-F generally showed the best rainfall observations in IMC, but with slightly difference from IMERG-E and IMERG-L. Thus, IMERG-E and IMERG-L data that had a faster latency than IMERG-F show potential to be used in rainfall observations in IMC

How Does Congestion Matter for Jakarta\u27s Citizens?

Jakarta, as the biggest city in Indonesia, faces many problems, one of which is congestion, that produces a high cost economy. It is predicted that if the government does not take immediate action to solve this problem, there will be a potential loss of IDR65 trillion by 2020 (Bappenas, 2007). This consists of IDR28.1 trillion in operational costs and IDR36.9 trillion in opportunity costs from time lost. This study is aimed at estimating how much Jakarta citizens\u27 are willing to pay to overcome the congestion problem. By using the stated preference method, the estimation result shows that the annual cost of congestion in Jakarta is estimated at IDR50.2 trillion a year. Furthermore, this result can be used as a baseline for a cost-benefit analysis by the government to generate a better public transportation policy in Jakarta

Optical fiber at range of 90.73% RH to 99.7% RH. The result shows that different levels are not far away, sensor system to detect air humidity using polymer optical fiber (POF) Autonics FD-620-10 has been developed. The POF sensor is performed by stripping cladding of the fiber and then replace it with TiO2 -SiO2 . The stripping variations are 1 cm, 2 cm, and 3 cm. The sensor system is composed of a red diode laser with wave length 638 nm as light source and photodiode light detector. The output from the detector will be displayed on an electronic viewer such as LCD or PC. Data processing is carried out using an ADC to get transfer function to be embedded into Arduino Uno. The obtained regression equation is y = 0.131x - 22.58 and the coefficient of determination (R2 ) is 0.984. It is mean that the optical fiber sensor has a good linearity. The accuracy of the sensor is obtained from the comparison of the humidity gauge designed with a hygrometer (an existing humidity gauge). The error were generated by the designed device was 2.78%. The error results indicate that the percentage of errors from the designed device is relatively small, so it can be concluded that the humidity sensor can respond well to the measured humidity. Keywords: humidity, laser diode, photodiode, Plastic fiber optic, TiO2 -SiO
