    Literary Competence for the Teaching of Literature in Second Language Educational Context

    This essay analyzes the use of literary works in second language educational context. It highlights the importance of literary competence and the implications at stake for the teaching of literature such as: the importance of setting the purpose in teaching literature, the need of considering literature teaching as product versus literature teaching as process and the necessitate of relating literature, language and culture. A brief analysis of the author's experience in using the literary texts in teaching English as a foreign language is also presented. From the discussions of the related literature, further research is recommended to settle the arguments of poetic versus hermeneutic approach in teaching literature as object of study. Moreover, appropriate balance for language, literature and culture for teaching literature as a topic or resources is suggested

    This essay analyses the challenge of the implementation of Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in the curriculum framework in Indonesia. Review on related literature and research findings support the arguments that the implementation of CLIL brings about the issues in cognition and communication aspects. Unless more appropriate English language education and more educational linguistic research are established, the implementation of CLIL should be reconsidered

    The Prevalence and Risk Factors of GERD Among Indonesian Medical Doctors

    Background: Based on our knowledge, the study of gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD) among certain profession has never been conducted. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence and risk factors of GERD among Indonesian doctors. Methods: A consecutive study involving 515 doctors was conducted in October 2015. The GerdQ score was used to the diagnosis of GERD and determined its impact on daily life. All possible risk factors were also analysed. Results: A total of 515 subjects completed the questionnaire. The mean age of them was 41.37 ± 11.92 years old. Fifty-five percent of them were male and 60.6% general practitioners. The prevalence of GERD was 27.4% of which 21.0% was had GERD with low impact on daily life, and 6.4% was GERD with high impact on daily life. The statistically significant risk factors of GERD was found in age >50 y.o (p = 0.002; OR = 2.054), BMI >30 kg/m2 (p = 0.016; OR = 2.53), and smokers (p = 0.031; OR = 1.982). Sex and education level were not found significant statistically as the risk factors of GERD. Conclusions: The prevalence of GERD among Indonesian physician was 27.4%. We found that age over 50 y.o, obesity and smoking habit were the risk factors of GERD in Indonesian doctors.&nbsp

    Learning achievement is the result of study that shows the level of individual mastery of the material taught. One factor that may affect the achievement of learning is emotion Goleman (2002: 17). Noble's work on the school SMPLB Surabaya where students have a limited hearing that the learning achievement of deaf students were allegedly also associated with emotional intelligence possessed by students. This study aims to look at the relationship between emotional intelligence with learning achievement in hearing impaired students in schools SMPLB Karya Mulia Surabaya. The study subjects (N = 41) were students of Surabaya Majesty SMPLB using total study population sampling technique that capture the. Data were collected by using a scale of emotional intelligence to uncover the emotional intelligence of students while learning achievement revealed by looking at the total value of the first semester report cards during the school year 2011-2012. Data were analyzed with non parametric Kendall's tau_b, with the help of SPSS For Windows Version 17.0. The analysis of data showed the correlation coefficient rxy = 0296 with p = 0.008 (

    Development of Teaching Materials Based on Contextual Video to Improve the Student Higher Order Thingking Skills of Animal Physiology Course

    He important demands in learning in college is the lecturer should empower the potential of students with various skills primarily related to Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). These aspects need to attention by the lecture, seeing that in the 21st century learning skills, critical thinking, creative, make decisions, and solve problems is required in the work. Through the development based on contextual video teaching materials is expected to increase HOTS students of animal physiology subjects. The method used in this research is the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). Results of this study was an increase in the average value HOTS activity after treatment where the value of the average highest and lowest C41 analysis indicators are C52 evaluation indicators. Ngain value calculation is equal to 0.2 with a low category. While the results of the validation of two experts in a row both material and media experts in the amount of 3.2 and 3.12 in both categories

    Validitas Kartu Permainan Domino Invertebrata untuk Meningkatkan Hasil Belajar untuk Siswa Kelas X SMA

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan media permainan kartu domino invertebrata untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar serta mendeskripsikan validitas, keefektifan, dan kepraktisannya. Pengembangan media ini dilakukan di Jurusan Biologi Fakultas MIPA Universitas Negeri Surabaya dengan menggunakan model pengembangan ASSURE (Analyze learners; States objectives; Select methods, media and material; Utilize media and materials; Require learner participation; dan Evaluate and revise). Uji coba dilakukan di SMA Negeri 1 Sampang menggunakan one group pretest and posttest design. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif. Peningkatan hasil belajar dianalisis dengan Gain Score. Berdasarkan hasil validasi, media dinyatakan sangat baik dengan persentase 97,42%. Media dinilai efektif dalam pembelajaran ditinjau dari hasil belajar 100% siswa dinyatakan tuntas dengan nilai Gain score sebesar 0,66 dan 97,69% siswa memberikan respons positif terhadap media kartu domino invertebrata. Berdasarkan pengamatan aktivitas siswa, media dinyatakan sangat baik dengan persentase 100%. Media pembelajaran berupa kartu permainan domino untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar dinyatakan valid, efektif dan praktis digunakan dalam pembelajaran.  Kata kunci: Kartu domino invertebrata, peningkatan hasil belajar, Kelas X SMA

    The objectives of this research are to analize (1) the influence of Excellent Service on Customer Satisfaction; (2) the influence of Excellent Service on Customer Loyalty; and (3) the influence of Customer Satisfaction on Customer Loyalty. Research type is explanatory research with quantitative approach. The sample are 116 respondents who are the customers of Pizza Hut at Malang Town Square. Sampling technique is purposive sampling. Data were collected by distributing the questionnaire. Data analysis techniques include descriptive analysis and path analysis. Result of the research indicates that (1) Excellent Service (X) is significantly influencing customer satisfaction (Y1); (2) Excellent Service (X) is not significantly influencing customer loyalty (Y2); and (3) customer satisfaction (Y1) is significantly influencing customer loyalty (Y2)
