RELATIONSHIP OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND TYPE OF CONTRACEPTION IN WITH BLOOD GLUCOSE AT WOMEN PARTICIPANT IN “Posyandu Lansia Kartasura”
Abstract
Indonesia has fourth largest number of patients with diabetes with a prevalence of 6.67% of the total population of 258 million. Lack of physical activity is an independent risk factor for chronic diseases, including diabetes mellitus. We often meet in the community who have elderly people prefer to stay at home caring for grandchildren rather than exercise. Birth control pills are a combination of estrogen and progesterone is the scariest side effect of the use of contraceptives is an increase in blood glucose levels. The hormones can affect the action of insulin in binding free fatty acids that can lead to insulin resistance and increased blood glucose levels.The research used to determine physical activity and types of contraceptives on blood glucose when women participants in Posyandu. This research used analytic observational study with cross sectional. The sampling method using a Two Stage Cluster Random Sampling Posyandu with 83 women participants in the district Kartasura that has according the criteria restriction. Statistical analysis has using chi square test and continued with a simple linear regression test.The results of the 83 participants, 31 participants found that physical activity is not active when blood glucose levels are not normal and 29 participants who used hormonal contraception with abnormal blood glucose levels. Logistic regression test showed that physical activity has a relationship with blood glucose levels when (p = 0.076). Type of contraception have a relationship with any blood glucose levels (p = 0.028).So, physical activity and types of contraception relates to blood glucose levels.
