Case Study of Counseling Interventions with a Child with Asperger\u27s Syndrome

    Get PDF
Diagnosis of children with Asperger\u27s syndrome (AS) has significantly increased. Therefore, effective counseling interventions are needed to help children develop social skills that will assist them in daily activities. The paper reviews areas of deficits experienced by children with AS; social communication, social interaction, cognition, behavior, motor clumsiness, and sensory issues. Appropriate counseling interventions such as skillstreaming, social stories and comic strip conversations are detailed. Additional school interventions are described. Results of a case study are included

Direct observation of spin-forbidden formation of O(D-1) in the near-UV photolysis of ozone

    No full text
Time-of-flight measurements have been made of the O(1D) fragment following the photolysis of ozone in the near-UV. At 321.9 nm fragments are seen with kinetic energies the values of which are those expected from spin-forbidden dissociation with ground state O2(X3Σg-) molecules as the co-product. Spin-allowed dissociation of internally excited ozone molecules is also seen to produce translationally cold O(1D) and O2(a1Δg) products. The implications for the dissociation of tropospheric ozone are briefly discussed

Spin-forbidden dissociation of ozone in the Huggins bands

Dissociation of ozone close to room temperature in the Huggins bands between 310 and 328 nm has been studied by time-of-flight spectroscopy of the resultant O(1D) and O2(a 1Δg) fragments. Clear evidence is seen for the spin-forbidden formation of both of these products in conjunction with the triplet (ground) state co-fragment, as well as for the dissociation of internally excited ozone molecules to form both singlet products in a spin-allowed step. For O(1D) the ratio of spin-forbidden to spin-allowed formation increases as the wavelength is increased, and is more pronounced at the peaks in the structured Huggins bands. The spin-forbidden dynamics are consistent with initial absorption to a state of 1B2 symmetry, followed by curve crossing to triplet states which lead to fragmentation. The implications for the photochemistry of tropospheric ozone are briefly discussed
