    Abundance and diversity of herbivorous insects are not only determined by the trophic level above, but also can be affected by the trophic level below it. This research aims to study the community of herbivorous insects and parasitoids on pods of different types of legume crops in Padang. The method used in this study was a survey method. This method was done by collecting pods of legume plants in various habitats. Insects contained in pods were maintained until adulthood. Individual insects that did not emerge from the pods were removed by dissecting pods. This method was also used to estimate the number of seeds, good seeds were damaged or not damaged in each pod. The results of this study indicated that the composition of herbivorous insects on legumes, especially legume Crotalaria striata was dominated by Eucorynus crassicornis, while the parasitoid composition was dominated by Braconidae. E. crassicornis has a wider range of expansion compared to other herbivorous insects. The insects were found on three types of legum C. striata, Crotalaria sp., and Leucaena leucocephala, whereas other types of herbivores attack only two types of legumes. The highest percentage of damage was obtained in Crotalaria striata i.e 74.53%

    To study insect community at orok-orok plantation (Crotalaria striata) from different habitat, we observed insects that interacted with Crotalaria plantation. There were four habitat type that used in this research, habitat open area and others were agroforestry habitat. We counted about nine ordo from insect that interacted with Crotalaria plant. More than 70% member of ordo, include to Hymenoptera, specially Formicidae. Not all function member of the ordo that known, but some of them are pollinator, parasitoid, predator and herbivore

    Kampung Batu Busuk Kelurahan Lambung Bukit Kecamatan Pauh merupakan salah satu sentra produksi buah durian di Sumatera Barat.Walaupun nama durian Batu Busuk sudah terkenal dan banyak dicari oleh pencinta durian pada saat musim durian, namun belum ada upaya untuk mengangkat durian Batu Busuk untuk bisa dikenal lebih luas. Langkah awal untuk mengangkat nama durian Batu Busuk adalah membenahi identitas varietas durian Batu Busuk, karena sampai sekarang karakteristik dari durian Batu Busuk yang sesungguhnya tidak jelas.Tanaman yang sudah dikarakterisasi juga perlu diperbanyak agar kedepan, buah yang dihasilkan oleh kelurahan Batu Busuk adalah buah dengan karakter unggul tertentu. Masyarakat atau petani yang menanam durian juga perlu memiliki keahlian memperbanyak durian unggulnya. Penerapan ipteks yang dilakukan pada kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini menggunakan beberapa metode antara lain penyuluhan, demonstrasi aplikasi dan demplot pembibitan durian. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan penyuluhan yang dilakukan berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat Batu Busuk mengenai arti penting pendaftaran varietas durian. Kegiatan demplot pembibitan durian dan demonstrasi teknik sambung meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat mengenai propagasi durian

    Diversity of Beneficial Insect in Corn Plantation at West Sumatra

    Corn is one of Indonesia's agricultural products with economical and strategic value and many potential to develop, such as carbohydrates and protein sources. There are two types of beneficial insects in corn production: predators and parasitoids. This study aims to identify the diversity of beneficial insects in corn plantations. This study was conducted from May to September 2019 in four different locations across West Sumatra, namely Padang Pariaman, West Pasaman, Pesisir Selatan, Solok Regencies. Identification of beneficial insects was made in Entomology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University. This study adopted a purposive sampling method using 20 sweeps of sweep nets, following a transect line of cornfields. The result showed five orders, 34 families, 101 morphospecies, and 747 beneficial insects in all locations. The diversity in each location varies from high, medium, and low. In all areas, the diversity index was high, with the criteria of ≥ 2.90, implying that the condition of the community structure was very stable. From the evenness index analysis, three locations were classified as high, and the other one was moderate. These three sites were Padang Pariaman, West Pasaman, and Solok, with criteria of ≥ 0.90 and very stable distribution conditions

    The Species of Rice Bug (Leptocorisa Oratorius Fabricius) Egg Parasitoids in Rice Field in West Sumatera, Indonesia

    The species of egg parasitoid in rice bug is necessary to know to be used as biological agent in the field. The research aimed to determine spesies of parasitoid, diversity index, parasitization level and parasitoid mortality which found in rice bug eggs in rice fields in West Sumatra. Purposive random sampling was used in this research for determining the sampling locations. Collecting eggs sampling was conducted for 1 km along transect line in sampling location. The collected eggs of 12 sampling locations then observed and identified in Laboratory of Insect Bioecology, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University. The result showed that the kind of egg parasitoid  found in the field were Hadronotus leptocorisae  and  Ooencyrtus malayensis with each parasitization level were 22.3 ± 11.1 %  and 4.2 ± 5.3 %, each the mortality were 57.8 ± 26.4% and 30.6 ± 37%, the diversity of egg parasitoid was low with the index 0.3858 Based on Shannon-Wienner
