    Measurements of the ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S), and ϒ(3S) differential cross sections in pp collisions at s=7TeV

    Get PDF
    Differential cross sections as a function of transverse momentum pTpT are presented for the production of ϒ(nS)ϒ(nS) (n = 1, 2, 3) states decaying into a pair of muons. Data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.9View the MathML sourcefb−1 in pp collisions at View the MathML sources=7TeV were collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The analysis selects events with dimuon rapidity |y|<1.2|y|<1.2 and dimuon transverse momentum in the range View the MathML source10<pT<100GeV. The measurements show a transition from an exponential to a power-law behavior at View the MathML sourcepT≈20GeV for the three ϒ states. Above that transition, the ϒ(3S)ϒ(3S) spectrum is significantly harder than that of the ϒ(1S)ϒ(1S). The ratios of the ϒ(3S)ϒ(3S) and ϒ(2S)ϒ(2S) differential cross sections to the ϒ(1S)ϒ(1S) cross section show a rise as pTpT increases at low pTpT, then become flatter at higher pTpT

    Measurement of the B0^0 and B+^+ meson lifetimes with fully reconstructed hadronic final states

    Get PDF
    The B0 and B+ meson lifetimes have been measured in e+e- annihilation data collected in 1999 and 2000 with the BABAR detector at center-of-mass energies near the Upsilon(4S) resonance. Events are selected in which one B meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic final state while the second B meson is reconstructed inclusively. A combined fit to the B0 and the B+ decay time difference distributions yields tau_{B0} = 1.546 +/- 0.032 (stat) +/- 0.022(syst) ps, tau_{B+} = 1.673 +/- 0.032 (stat) +/- 0.023 (syst) ps and tau_{B+} / tau_{B0} = 1.082 +/- 0.026 (stat) +/- 0.012 (syst

    Measurement of J/ψJ/\psi production in continuum e+ee^{+}e^{-} annihilations near s=10.6GeV\sqrt{s}=10.6-GeV

    No full text
    The production of J/ψJ/\psi mesons in continuum e+ee^+e^- annihilations has been studied with the BABAR detector at energies near the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance, approximately 10.6 GeV. The mesons are distinguished from J/ψJ/\psi production in B decays through their center-of-mass momentum and energy. We measure the cross section e+eJ/ψXe^+e^-\to J/\psi X to be 2.52±0.21±0.212.52\pm 0.21\pm 0.21 pb; for momentum above 2 GeV/c, it is 1.87±0.10±0.151.87\pm 0.10\pm 0.15 pb. We set a 90% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction for direct Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S)\to J/\psi Xdecaysat decays at 4.3\times 10^{-4}$

    Measurement of the BJ/ψK(892)B \rightarrow J/\psi K*(892) decay amplitudes

    We present a measurement of the decay amplitudes in B-->J/psi K^*(892) channels using 20.7 fb-1 of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at PEP-II. We measure a P-wave fraction R_perp = (16.0+/-3.2+/-1.4)% and a longitudinal polarization fraction (59.7+/-2.8+/-2.4)%. The measurement of a relative phase that is neither 0 nor pi, phi_ll = 2.50+/-0.20+/-0.08 radians, favors a departure from the factorization hypothesis. Although the decay B-->J/psi Kpi proceeds mainly via K^*(892), there is also evidence for K^*_2(1430) and Kpi S-wave contributions

    Measurement of branching fractions and search for CP-violating charge asymmetries in charmless two-body B decays into pions and kaons

    No full text
    We present measurements of the branching fractions and a search for CP-violating charge asymmetries in charmless hadronic decays of B mesons into two-body final states of kaons and pions. The results are based on a data sample of approximately 23 million BB(bar) pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. We find the following branching fractions: BF(B0-->pi+pi-)= (4.1+/-1.0+/-0.7) x 10^{-6}, BF(B0-->K+pi-)=(16.7+/-1.6+/-1.3) x 10^{-6}, BF(B+-->K+pi0)=(10.8^{+2.1}_{-1.9}+/-1.0) x 10^{-6}, BF(B+-->K0pi+)=(18.2^{+3.3}_{-3.0}+/-2.0) x 10^{-6}, BF(B0-->K0pi0)=(8.2^{+3.1}_{-2.7}+/-1.2) x 10^{-6}. We also report the 90% confidence level upper limits BF(B0-->K+K-) pi+pi0) anti-K0K+) < 2.4 x 10^{-6}. In addition, charge asymmetries have been measured and found to be consistent with zero, where the statistical precision is in the range of +/-0.10 to +/-0.18, depending on the decay mode

    We present a measurement of the time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B decays to the π+π\pi^+\pi^- CP eigenstate, and an updated measurement of the charge asymmetry in B0K+πB^0\to K^+\pi^- decays. In a sample of 33 million Υ(4S)BBˉ\Upsilon(4S)\to B\bar B decays collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric BB Factory, we find 6511+1265^{+12}_{-11} π+π\pi^+\pi^- and 217±18217\pm 18 K+πK^+\pi^- candidates and measure the asymmetry parameters Sππ=0.030.56+0.53±0.11S_{\pi\pi} = 0.03^{+0.53}_{-0.56}\pm 0.11, Cππ=0.250.47+0.45±0.14C_{\pi\pi} = -0.25^{+0.45}_{-0.47}\pm 0.14, and AKπ=0.07±0.08±0.02{\cal A}_{K\pi} = -0.07 \pm 0.08 \pm 0.02, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic

    The branching fractions of the exclusive decays B0K0γB^0\to K^{*0}\gamma and B+K+γB^+ \to K^{*+}\gamma are measured from a sample of (22.74±0.36)×106(22.74\pm 0.36)\times 10^6 BBˉB\bar B decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP II asymmetric e+ee^{+}e^{-} collider. We find B(B0K0γ)=(4.23±0.40(stat.)±0.22(sys.))×105{\cal B}(B^0\to K^{*0}\gamma) = (4.23\pm 0.40({\rm stat.})\pm 0.22({\rm sys.}))\times 10^{-5}, B(B+K+γ)=(3.83±0.62(stat.)±0.22(sys.))×105{\cal B}(B^+\to K^{*+}\gamma) = (3.83\pm 0.62({\rm stat.})\pm 0.22({\rm sys.}))\times 10^{-5} and constrain the CP-violating charge asymmetry to be 0.170<ACP(BKγ)<0.082-0.170 < A_{CP}(B \to K^*\gamma) < 0.082 at 90% C.L

    No full text
    We present the results of searches for B decays to charmless two-body final states containing η\eta^\prime or ω\omega mesons, based on 20.7 fb1^{-1} of data collected with the BABAR detector. We find the branching fractions B(B+ηK+)=(70±8±5)×106{\cal B}(B^+\to\eta^\prime K^+) = (70\pm 8\pm 5)\times 10^{-6}, B(B0ηK0)=(4211+13±4)×106{\cal B}(B^0\to\eta^\prime K^0) = (42^{+13}_{-11}\pm 4)\times 10^{-6}, and B(B+ωπ+)=6.61.8+2.1±0.7)×106{\cal B}(B^+\to\omega\pi^+)=6.6^{+2.1}_{-1.8}\pm 0.7)\times 10^{-6} where the first error quoted is statistical and the second systematic. We give measurements of four additional modes for which the 90% confidence level upper limits are B(B0ωK0)<13×106{\cal B}(B^0\to\omega K^0) < 13\times 10^{-6}, B(B+ηπ+)<12×106{\cal B}(B^+\to\eta^\prime \pi^+) < 12\times 10^{-6}, B(B+ωK+)<4×106{\cal B}(B^+\to \omega K^+) < 4\times 10^{-6}, and B(B0ωπ0)<3×106{\cal B}(B^0\to\omega\pi^0) < 3\times 10^{-6}
