Panel Discussion - Management of Eurasian watermilfoil in the United States using native insects: State regulatory and management issues

While researchers have evaluated the potential of native insect herbivores to manage nonindigenous aquatic plant species such as Eurasian watermilfoil ( Myriophyllum spicatum L.), the practical matters of regulatory compliance and implementation have been neglected. A panel of aquatic nuisance species program managers from three state natural resource management agencies (Minnesota, Vermont and Washington) discussed their regulatory and policy concerns. In addition, one ecological consultant attempting to market one of the native insects to manage Eurasian watermilfoil added his perspective on the special challenges of distributing a native biological control agent for management of Eurasian watermilfoil

: A nurse is a professional who possesses the ability, responsibility and authority to execute services or nursing of various levels of nursing services. Purpose: to find out the connection of Education of nurses and the length of Work With A Nurse's performance at General Public Regional Hospital Sorong District. This study is conducted by using cross sectional method. The choosing of samples is by using Random Sampling with a number of 92 people. The data collection Is done by using primary and secondary data collection method. The result of study indicates the score of p = 0,01 with the level of meaning a0,05, this indicates that p < , this indicates that there is a connection between level of Nursing Education with A Nurse's performance at General Public Regional Hospital Sorong District. Conclusion: There is a significant relation between Education of Nurses And the length of work with The Performance of Nurses at general Public Regional Hospital Sorong District. Recommendation for the Human Resources Department of General Public Regional Hospital Sorong District hopefully the will give opportunity to nurses to develop and to increase their education and knowledge by providing academic education

:Fracture is a potential or actual threat against someone inegritas, so will be impaired physiological and spikologis which can cause a response in the form of pain. Pain is a subjective situation where a person shows any inconvenience verbal and nonverbal. Research purposes to know the characteristics associated with the level of pain in patients with fracture in Surgery Room General Hospital Bethesda GMIM Tomohon.Research design used is descriptive analytic design with cross sectional approach. The sampling technique is to use sampling in accordance with the purposivae sample of 42 people.Research resultusing statistical tests chi-square obtained to age the value ρ = 0.001 <α = 0.05 Gender value ρ = 0.000 <α = 0.05 Works value ρ = 0.0047 <α = 0.05 and factors that affect pain value ρ = 0.000 <α = 0:05. Conclusion his study has shown there is a relationship between age, gender, occupation and the factors that affect pain with pain level in patients with fracture in Surgery Room General Hospital Bethesda GMIM Tomohon

Adverse Moisture Events Predict Seasonal Abundance of Lyme Disease Vector Ticks (\u3cem\u3eIxodes scapularis\u3c/em\u3e)

Background Lyme borreliosis (LB) is the most commonly reported vector-borne disease in north temperate regions worldwide, affecting an estimated 300,000 people annually in the United States alone. The incidence of LB is correlated with human exposure to its vector, the blacklegged tick (Ixodes scapularis). To date, attempts to model tick encounter risk based on environmental parameters have been equivocal. Previous studies have not considered (1) the differences between relative humidity (RH) in leaf litter and at weather stations, (2) the RH threshold that affects nymphal blacklegged tick survival, and (3) the time required below the threshold to induce mortality. We clarify the association between environmental moisture and tick survival by presenting a significant relationship between the total number of tick adverse moisture events (TAMEs - calculated as microclimatic periods below a RH threshold) and tick abundance each year. Methods We used a 14-year continuous statewide tick surveillance database and corresponding weather data from Rhode Island (RI), USA, to assess the effects of TAMEs on nymphal populations of I. scapularis. These TAMEs were defined as extended periods of time (\u3e8 h below 82% RH in leaf litter). We fit a sigmoid curve comparing weather station data to those collected by loggers placed in tick habitats to estimate RH experienced by nymphal ticks, and compiled the number of historical TAMEs during the 14-year record. Results The total number of TAMEs in June of each year was negatively related to total seasonal nymphal tick densities, suggesting that sub-threshold humidity episodes \u3e8 h in duration naturally lowered nymphal blacklegged tick abundance. Furthermore, TAMEs were positively related to the ratio of tick abundance early in the season when compared to late season, suggesting that lower than average tick abundance for a given year resulted from tick mortality and not from other factors. Conclusions Our results clarify the mechanism by which environmental moisture affects blacklegged tick populations, and offers the possibility to more accurately predict tick abundance and human LB incidence. We describe a method to forecast LB risk in endemic regions and identify the predictive role of microclimatic moisture conditions on tick encounter risk

Exploring AI Futures Through Role Play

We present an innovative methodology for studying and teaching the impacts of AI through a role play game. The game serves two primary purposes: 1) training AI developers and AI policy professionals to reflect on and prepare for future social and ethical challenges related to AI and 2) exploring possible futures involving AI technology development, deployment, social impacts, and governance. While the game currently focuses on the inter relations between short --, mid and long term impacts of AI, it has potential to be adapted for a broad range of scenarios, exploring in greater depths issues of AI policy research and affording training within organizations. The game presented here has undergone two years of development and has been tested through over 30 events involving between 3 and 70 participants. The game is under active development, but preliminary findings suggest that role play is a promising methodology for both exploring AI futures and training individuals and organizations in thinking about, and reflecting on, the impacts of AI and strategic mistakes that can be avoided today.Comment: Accepted to AIE
