Systematic approach to cyclic orbifolds
We introduce an orbifold induction procedure which provides a systematic
construction of cyclic orbifolds, including their twisted sectors. The
procedure gives counterparts in the orbifold theory of all the
current-algebraic constructions of conformal field theory and enables us to
find the orbifold characters and their modular transformation properties.Comment: 39 pages, LaTeX. v2,3: references added. v4: typos correcte
The embedding of the spacetime in five-dimensional spaces with arbitrary non-degenerate Ricci tensor
We discuss and prove a theorem which asserts that any n-dimensional
semi-Riemannian manifold can be locally embedded in a (n+1)-dimensional space
with a non-degenerate Ricci tensor which is equal, up to a local analytic
diffeomorphism, to the Ricci tensor of an arbitrary specified space. This may
be regarded as a further extension of the Campbell-Magaard theorem. We
highlight the significance of embedding theorems of increasing degrees of
generality in the context of higher dimensional spacetimes theories and
illustrate the new theorem by establishing the embedding of a general class of
Ricci-flat spacetimes
Translating Video Recordings of Mobile App Usages into Replayable Scenarios
Screen recordings of mobile applications are easy to obtain and capture a
wealth of information pertinent to software developers (e.g., bugs or feature
requests), making them a popular mechanism for crowdsourced app feedback. Thus,
these videos are becoming a common artifact that developers must manage. In
light of unique mobile development constraints, including swift release cycles
and rapidly evolving platforms, automated techniques for analyzing all types of
rich software artifacts provide benefit to mobile developers. Unfortunately,
automatically analyzing screen recordings presents serious challenges, due to
their graphical nature, compared to other types of (textual) artifacts. To
address these challenges, this paper introduces V2S, a lightweight, automated
approach for translating video recordings of Android app usages into replayable
scenarios. V2S is based primarily on computer vision techniques and adapts
recent solutions for object detection and image classification to detect and
classify user actions captured in a video, and convert these into a replayable
test scenario. We performed an extensive evaluation of V2S involving 175 videos
depicting 3,534 GUI-based actions collected from users exercising features and
reproducing bugs from over 80 popular Android apps. Our results illustrate that
V2S can accurately replay scenarios from screen recordings, and is capable of
reproducing 89% of our collected videos with minimal overhead. A case
study with three industrial partners illustrates the potential usefulness of
V2S from the viewpoint of developers.Comment: In proceedings of the 42nd International Conference on Software

Quasiparticle operators with non-Abelian braiding statistics
We study the gauge invariant fermions in the fermion coset representation of
Wess-Zumino-Witten models which create, by construction, the physical
excitations (quasiparticles) of the theory. We show that they provide an
explicit holomorphic factorization of Wess-Zumino-Witten primaries
and satisfy non-Abelian braiding relations.Comment: 13 pages, no figures, final version to appear in Physics Letters
Discovery of the Putative Pulsar and Wind Nebula Associated with the TeV Gamma-ray Source HESS J1813-178
We present a Chandra X-ray observation of G12.82-0.02, a shell-like radio
supernova remnant coincident with the TeV gamma-ray source HESS J1813-178. We
resolve the X-ray emission from the co-located ASCA source into a point source
surrounded by structured diffuse emission that fills the interior of the radio
shell. The morphology of the diffuse emission strongly resembles that of a
pulsar wind nebula. The spectrum of the compact source is well-characterized by
a power-law with index Gamma approx 1.3, typical of young and energetic
rotation-powered pulsars. For a distance of 4.5 kpc, consistent with the X-ray
absorption and an association with the nearby star formation region W33, the
2-10 keV X-ray luminosities of the putative pulsar and nebula are L(PSR) =
3.2E33 ergs/s and L(PWN) = 1.4E34 ergs/s, respectively. Both the flux ratio of
L(PWN)/L(PSR) = 4.3 and the total luminosity of this system predict a pulsar
spin-down power of Edot > 1E37 ergs/s, placing it within the ten most energetic
young pulsars in the Galaxy. A deep search for radio pulsations using the
Parkes telescope sets an upper-limit of approx 0.07 mJy at 1.4 GHz for periods
>~ 50 ms. We discuss the energetics of this source, and consider briefly the
proximity of bright H2 regions to this and several other HESS sources, which
may produce their TeV emission via inverse Compton scattering.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure, Latex, emulateapj style. To appear in the

Pulsar Results with the Fermi Large Area Telescope
The launch of the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope has heralded a new era in
the study of gamma-ray pulsars. The population of confirmed gamma-ray pulsars
has gone from 6-7 to more than 60, and the superb sensitivity of the Large Area
Telescope (LAT) on Fermi has allowed the detailed study of their spectra and
light curves. Twenty-four of these pulsars were discovered in blind searches of
the gamma-ray data, and twenty-one of these are, at present, radio quiet,
despite deep radio follow-up observations. In addition, millisecond pulsars
have been confirmed as a class of gamma-ray emitters, both individually and
collectively in globular clusters. Recently, radio searches in the direction of
LAT sources with no likely counterparts have been highly productive, leading to
the discovery of a large number of new millisecond pulsars. Taken together,
these discoveries promise a great improvement in the understanding of the
gamma-ray emission properties and Galactic population of pulsars. We summarize
some of the results stemming from these newly-detected pulsars and their timing
and multi-wavelength follow-up observations.Comment: 21 pages, 9 figures, to appear in Proceedings of ICREA Workshop on

Optical Pulse-Phased Photopolarimetry of PSR B0656+14
We have observed the optical pulse profile of PSR B0656+14 in 10 phase bins
at a high signal-to-noise ratio, and have measured the linear polarization
profile over 30% of the pulsar period with some significance. The pulse profile
is double-peaked, with a bridge of emission between the two peaks, similar to
gamma-ray profiles observed in other pulsars. There is no detectable unpulsed
flux, to a 1-sigma limit of 16% of the pulse-averaged flux. The emission in the
bridge is highly (~ 100%) polarized, with a position angle sweep in excellent
agreement with the prediction of the Rotating Vector Model as determined from
radio polarization observations. We are able to account for the gross features
of the optical light curve (i.e., the phase separation of the peaks) using both
polar cap and outer gap models. Using the polar cap model, we are also able to
estimate the height of the optical emission regions.Comment: 27 pages, 11 figures, accepted by ApJ (scheduled v597 n2, November

Incoherent dynamics in neutron-matter interaction
Coherent and incoherent neutron-matter interaction is studied inside a
recently introduced approach to subdynamics of a macrosystem. The equation
describing the interaction is of the Lindblad type and using the Fermi
pseudopotential we show that the commutator term is an optical potential
leading to well-known relations in neutron optics. The other terms, usually
ignored in optical descriptions and linked to the dynamic structure function of
the medium, give an incoherent contribution to the dynamics, which keeps
diffuse scattering and attenuation of the coherent beam into account, thus
warranting fulfilment of the optical theorem. The relevance of this analysis to
experiments in neutron interferometry is briefly discussed.Comment: 15 pages, revtex, no figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.
Discovery of a Hard X-Ray Source, SAX J0635+0533, in the Error Box of the Gamma-Ray Source 2EG 0635+0521
We have discovered an x-ray source, SAX J0635+0533, with a hard spectrum
within the error box of the GeV gamma-ray source in Monoceros, 2EG J0635+0521.
The unabsorbed x-ray flux is 1.2*10^-11 erg cm^-2 s^-1 in the 2-10 keV band.
The x-ray spectrum is consistent with a simple powerlaw model with absorption.
The photon index is 1.50 +/- 0.08 and we detect emission out to 40 keV. Optical
observations identify a counterpart with a V-magnitude of 12.8. The counterpart
has broad emission lines and the colors of an early B type star. If the
identification of the x-ray/optical source with the gamma-ray source is
correct, then the source would be a gamma-ray emitting x-ray binary.Comment: Accepted to the Astrophysical Journal, 8 page
Static ferromagnetic materials: from the microscopic to the mesoscopic scale
Thanks to averaging processes and Gamma-convergence techniques, we are able
to link a microscopic description of ferromagnetic materials based on spin
lattices and their mesoscopic description in the static framework for the three
fundamental contributions: exchange, magnetostatic and external field. The
results are in accordance with the classical continuous description of
ferromagnetic phenomena and justifies it. This work is a seed towards a dynamic
description of ferromagnetic materials
