    Projected d-wave superconducting state: a fermionic projected entangled pair state study

    We investigate the physics of projected d-wave pairing states using their fermionic projected entangled pair state (fPEPS) representation. First, we approximate a d-wave Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer state using the Gaussian fPEPS. Next, we translate the resulting state into fPEPS tensors and implement the Gutzwiller projection which removes double occupancy by modifying the local tensor elements. The tensor network representation of the projected d-wave pairing state allows us to evaluate physical quantities in the thermodynamic limit without employing the Gutzwiller approximation. Despite having very few variational parameters, such physically motivated tensor network states are shown to exhibit competitive energies for the doped t-J model. We expect that such construction offers useful initial states and guidance for variational tensor network calculations.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figure

    Outward foreign direct investment and product quality of domestic productions: An empirical investigation

    While conceptual and theoretical studies have claimed that outward foreign direct investment (FDI) is an effective way to improve the quality of domestic production, there has been less systematic investigation into that claim. The statistical analysis of a survey of Taiwan's outward FDI activity shows that FDI had a positive effect on the quality of only 33.4% of investing firms. We further employ the microeconometric technique to analyze what kinds of globalization behaviors improve the quality of domestic firms’ products. The empirical results show that the strategy of expansionary FDI is more effective than defensive FDI at improving product quality because it allows domestic firms to learn advanced technologies from guest countries. Moreover, the reallocation of export between foreign affiliates and the parent company is an effective way for investing firms to focus on improving domestic product quality. Toliau buvo taikoma mikroekonometrine metodika, siekiant ištirti, kokios rūšies globalizacijos elgsena pagerina vietines imoniu produkcijos kokybe. Empirinio tyrimo rezultatai parode, kad, gerinant produkcijos kokybe, pletros tiesiogines užsienio investicijos yra efektyvesnes nei apsaugines tiesiogines užsienio investicijos. Taip yra todel, kad jos leidžia šalies vidaus imonems sužinoti apie pažangias kitu šaliu technologijas. Be to, eksporto perskirstymas tarp užsienio filialu ir pagrindines imones yra veiksmingas būdas investuojančiai imonei daugiausia demesio skirti vidaus produkcijos kokybei.     An analysis of the correlations between TNF-α and MCP-1 levels in the induced sputum and serum of patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary diseaseand pulmonary function and quality of life

    Abstract: In this study, we investigated the correlations between airway and systemic Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-α) and Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein -1 (MCP-1) levels and pulmonary function and quality of life in patients with stable COPD. A low-risk COPD patient group (32 cases), a high-risk COPD patient group (29 cases) and a healthy control group (30 cases) were included in the study. The TNF-α and MCP-1 levels in the induced sputum and serum of the three groups were compared. The correlation between inflammatory factor levels in the COPD patients and pulmonary function, body-mass index(BMI), airflow obstruction(FEV 1 %), dyspnea(MMRC scale), exercise capacity(6WMD), BODE index and SGRQ score was analyzed by a multiple variable linear regression model. The TNF-α and MCP-1 levels in induced sputum and serum of the three groups were all significantly different (P<0.001). The MCP-1 level in the induced sputum of the low-risk COPD patient group was negatively correlated with the 6MWD and with the SGRQ symptom score (P=0.014). The serum TNF-α level in the high-risk COPD patient group was negatively correlated with the FEV 1 /FVC(P=0.001) and was positively correlated with the SGRQ total score (P=0.005). The serum MCP-1 level in the high-risk COPD patient group was negatively correlated with the FEV 1 /FVC and the MMRC dyspnea scale (P=0.007)
