    CP violation at one loop in the polarization-independent chargino production in e+e- collisions

    Recently Osland and Vereshagin noticed, based on sample calculations of some box diagrams, that in unpolarised e+e- collisions CP-odd effects in the non-diagonal chargino-pair production process are generated at one-loop. Here we perform a full one-loop analysis of these effects and point out that in some cases the neglected vertex and self-energy contributions may play a dominant role. We also show that CP asymmetries in chargino production are sensitive not only to the phase of mu parameter in the chargino sector but also to the phase of stop trilinear coupling A_t.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figure

    Measurement of Cosmic-ray Muons and Muon-induced Neutrons in the Aberdeen Tunnel Underground Laboratory

    We have measured the muon flux and production rate of muon-induced neutrons at a depth of 611 m water equivalent. Our apparatus comprises three layers of crossed plastic scintillator hodoscopes for tracking the incident cosmic-ray muons and 760 L of gadolinium-doped liquid scintillator for producing and detecting neutrons. The vertical muon intensity was measured to be Iμ=(5.7±0.6)×10−6I_{\mu} = (5.7 \pm 0.6) \times 10^{-6} cm−2^{-2}s−1^{-1}sr−1^{-1}. The yield of muon-induced neutrons in the liquid scintillator was determined to be Yn=(1.19±0.08(stat)±0.21(syst))×10−4Y_{n} = (1.19 \pm 0.08 (stat) \pm 0.21 (syst)) \times 10^{-4} neutrons/(μ⋅\mu\cdotg⋅\cdotcm−2^{-2}). A fit to the recently measured neutron yields at different depths gave a mean muon energy dependence of ⟨Eμ⟩0.76±0.03\left\langle E_{\mu} \right\rangle^{0.76 \pm 0.03} for liquid-scintillator targets.Comment: 14 pages, 17 figures, 3 table

    Dynamical Polarizabilities of SU(3) Octet of Baryons

    We present calculations and an analysis of the spin-independent dipole electric and magnetic dynamical polarizabilities for the lowest in mass SU(3) octet of baryons. These extensive calculations are made possible by the recent implementation of semi-automatized calculations in Chiral Perturbation Theory which allows evaluating dynamical spin-independent electromagnetic polarizabilities from Compton scattering up to next-to-the-leading order. Our results are in good agreement with calculations performed for nucleons found in the literature. The dependencies for the range of photon energies up to 1 GeV, covering the majority of the meson photo production channels, are analyzed.     Feasibility Study for Elimination of the Screening Current-Induced Fields in HTS Coil

    Herein, we report a feasibility study for elimination of the screening current-induced field (SCIF) in fully insulated (INS) and no-insulation (NI) GdBCO coated conductor (CC) coils exposed to an external AC magnetic field generated by background solenoid copper coils. Prior to investigating the effects of external AC magnetic fields on SCIF in the GdBCO CC coils, the magnetic flux density (B[subscript z]) was calculated using the equivalent circuit model and compared to the B[subscript z] obtained empirically to quantify the SCIF in the INS and NI coils. The value of the SCIF in the NI coil was smaller than that in the INS coil without the use of an external AC magnetic field, due to the current paths originating from the turn-to-turn and layer-to-layer contacts, suggesting that the screening current dissipated by contact resistance during charging. When the INS and NI coils were exposed to the external AC magnetic field, the B[subscript z] of the coils increased gradually, and eventually saturating to the calculated B[subscript z] values, indicating full removal of the SCIF. In addition, the SCIF of the NI coil could be removed under subjection to a lower external AC magnetic field compared to the INS coil, due to the lower SCIF occurring in the NI coil after charging.Korea (South).     First-principles study of the optoelectronic properties and photovoltaic absorber layer efficiency of Cu-based chalcogenides

    Cu-based chalcogenides are promising materials for thin-film solar cells with more than 20% measured cell efficiency. Using first-principles calculations based on density functional theory, the optoelectronic properties of a group of Cu-based chalcogenides Cu2_2-II-IV-VI4_4 is studied. They are then screened with the aim of identifying potential absorber materials for photovoltaic applications. The spectroscopic limited maximum efficiency (SLME) introduced by Yu and Zunger is used as a metric for the screening. After constructing the current-voltage curve, the maximum spectroscopy dependent power conversion efficiency is calculated from the maximum power output. The role of the nature of the band gap, direct or indirect, and also of the absorptivity of the studied materials on the maximum theoretical power conversion efficiency is studied. Our results show that Cu2_2-II-GeSe4_4 with II=Cd and Hg, and Cu2_2-II-SnS4_4 with II=Cd and Zn have a higher theoretical efficiency compared to the materials currently used as absorber layer

    Limits on Interactions between Weakly Interacting Massive Particles and Nucleons Obtained with NaI(Tl) crystal Detectors

    Limits on the cross section for weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) scattering off nucleons in the NaI(Tl) detectors at the Yangyang Underground Laboratory are obtained with a 2967.4 kg*day data exposure. Nuclei recoiling are identified by the pulse shape of scintillating photon signals. Data are consistent with no nuclear recoil hypothesis, and 90% confidence level upper limits are set. These limits partially exclude the DAMA/LIBRA region of WIMP-sodium interaction with the same NaI(Tl) target detector. This 90% confidence level upper limit on WIMP-nucleon spin-independent cross section is 3.26*10^-4 pb for a WIMP mass at 10 GeV/c^2
