Critical Current of the Spin-Triplet Superconducting Phase in SrRuO
There have been two different proposals for the spin-triplet order parameter
of the superconducting phase in SrRuO; an -wave order parameter and
the multigap model where some of the bands have the line node. In an effort to
propose an experiment that can distinguish two cases, we study the behavior of
the supercurrent and compute the critical current for these order parameters
when the sample is a thin film with the thickness where is
the coherence length. It is found that the supercurrent behaves very
differently in two models. This will serve as a sharp test for the
identification of the correct order parameter.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur
Sound Propagation in Nematic Fermi Liquid
We study the longitudinal sound propagation in the electronic nematic Fermi
liquid where the Fermi surface is distorted due to the spontaneously broken
rotational symmetry. The behavior of the sound wave in the nematic ordered
state is dramatically different from that in the isotropic Fermi liquid. The
collective modes associated with the fluctuations of the Fermi surface
distortion in the nematic Fermi liquid leads to the strong and anisotropic
damping of the sound wave. The relevance of the nematic Fermi liquid in doped
Mott insulator is discussed.Comment: 4 pages, no figur
The development of a rebar-counting model for reinforced concrete columns: Using an unmanned aerial vehicle and deep-learning approach
Inspecting the number of rebars in each column of a reinforced concrete (RC) structure is a significant task that must be undertaken during the rebar inspection process. Conventionally, counting the rebars has relied on a manual inspection carried out by visiting inspectors. However, this approach is very time-consuming, labor-intensive, and poses a potential safety risk. Previous studies have focused on the applications of counting the rebars for a production line and/or warehouse, using vision-based methods. Therefore, this study aims to propose an innovative approach incorporating the use of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) on real construction sites to count the rebars automatically. For analyzing the images, robust object detection methods based on deep learning (Faster R-CNN, R-FCN, SSD 300, SSD500, YOLOv5, and YOLOv6) were developed. A total of 384 models generated from six different methods were trained and implemented using data sets based on the original and augmented images with adjustments made for the hyperparameters. In a test, the best optimized model based on Faster R-CNN produced an accuracy of 94.61% at AP50. In addition, video testing demonstrated a coverage of up to 32 frames per second in the experimental environment, suggesting that this method has potential for real-time application
A 12b 50MS/s 2.1mW SAR ADC with redundancy and digital background calibration
A 12-bit 50MS/s SAR ADC implemented in 65nm CMOS technology is presented. The design employs redundancy to relax the DAC settling requirement and to provide sufficient room for errors such that the static nonlinearity caused by capacitor mismatches can be digitally removed. The redundancy is incorporated into the design using a tri-level switching scheme and our modified split-capacitor array to achieve the highest switching efficiency while still preserving the symmetry in error tolerance. A new code-density based digital background calibration algorithm that requires no special calibration signals or additional analog hardware is also developed. The calibration is performed by using the input signal as stimulus and the effectiveness is verified both in simulation and through measured data. The prototype achieves a 67.4dB SNDR at 50MS/s, while dissipating 2.1mW from a 1.2V supply, leading to FoM of 21.9fJ/conv.-step at Nyquist frequency.MIT Masdar Progra
Incommensurate Charge and Spin Fluctuations in d-wave Superconductors
We show analytic results for the irreducible charge and spin
susceptibilities, , where is the momentum
transfer between the nodes in d-wave superconductors. Using the BCS theory and
a circular Fermi surface, we find that the singular behavior of the irreducible
charge susceptibility leads to the dynamic incommensurate charge collective
modes. The peaks in the charge structure factor occur at a set of wave vectors
which form an ellipse around and in
momentum space with momentum dependent spectral weight. It is also found that,
due to the non-singular irreducible spin susceptibility, an extremely strong
interaction via random phase approximation is required to support the magnetic
peaks near . Under certain conditions, the peaks in the magnetic
structure factor occur near and .Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Bent crystal spectrometer for both frequency and wavenumber resolved x-ray scattering at a seeded free-electron laser
We present a cylindrically curved GaAs x-ray spectrometer with energy
resolution and wave-number resolution of
, allowing plasmon scattering at the resolution
limits of the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) x-ray free-electron laser. It
spans scattering wavenumbers of 3.6 to \AA\ in 100 separate bins, with
only 0.34\% wavenumber blurring. The dispersion of 0.418~eV/m agrees
with predictions within 1.3\%. The reflection homogeneity over the entire
wavenumber range was measured and used to normalize the amplitude of scattering
spectra. The proposed spectrometer is superior to a mosaic HAPG spectrometer
when the energy resolution needs to be comparable to the LCLS seeded bandwidth
of 1~eV and a significant range of wavenumbers must be covered in one exposure
Supercurrent in Nodal Superconductors
In recent years, a number of nodal superconductors have been identified;
d-wave superconductors in high T_c cuprates, CeCoIn, and
\kappa-(ET)_2Cu(NCS)_2, 2D f-wave superconductor in Sr_2RuO_4 and hybrid
s+g-wave superconductor in YNi_2B_2C. In this work we conduct a theoretical
study of nodal superconductors in the presence of supercurrent. For simplicity,
we limit ourselves to d-wave and 2D f-wave superconductors. We compute the
quasiparticle density of states and the temperature dependence of the depairing
critical current in nodal superconductors, both of which are accessible
experimentally.Comment: revtex4, 6 pages, 7 figures; fixed typos, updated references, trimmed

Signatures of Electronic Nematic Phase at Isotropic-Nematic Phase Transition
The electronic nematic phase occurs when the point-group symmetry of the
lattice structure is broken, due to electron-electron interactions. We study a
model for the nematic phase on a square lattice with emphasis on the phase
transition between isotropic and nematic phases within mean field theory. We
find the transition to be first order, with dramatic changes in the Fermi
surface topology accompanying the transition. Furthermore, we study the
conductivity tensor and Hall constant as probes of the nematic phase and its
transition. The relevance of our findings to Hall resistivity experiments in
the high- cuprates is discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Collective modes and sound propagation in a p-wave superconductor: SrRuO
There are five distinct collective modes in the recently discovered p-wave
superconductor SrRuO; phase and amplitude modes of the order parameter,
clapping mode (real and imaginary), and spin wave. The first two modes also
exist in the ordinary s-wave superconductors, while the clapping mode with the
energy is unique to SrRuO and couples to the sound
wave. Here we report a theoretical study of the sound propagation in a two
dimensional p-wave superconductor. We identified the clapping mode and study
its effects on the longitudinal and transverse sound velocities in the
superconducting state. In contrast to the case of He, there is no resonance
absorption associated with the collective mode, since in metals , where is the Fermi velocity, {\bf q} is the wave
vector, and is the frequency of the sound wave. However, the velocity
change in the collisionless limit gets modified by the contribution from the
coupling to the clapping mode. We compute this contribution and comment on the
visibility of the effect. In the diffusive limit, the contribution from the
collective mode turns out to be negligible. The behaviors of the sound velocity
change and the attenuation coefficient near in the diffusive limit are
calculated and compared with the existing experimental data wherever it is
possible. We also present the results for the attenuation coefficients in both
of the collisionless and diffusive limits at finite temperatures.Comment: RevTex, 12 pages, 2 figures, Replaced by the published versio
On Measuring Condensate Fraction in Superconductors
An analysis of off-diagonal long-range order in superconductors shows that
the spin-spin correlation function is significantly influenced by the order if
the order parameter is anisotropic on a microscopic scale. Thus, magnetic
neutron scattering can provide a direct measurement of the condensate fraction
of a superconductor. It is also argued that recent measurements in high
temperature superconductors come very close to achieving this goal.Comment: 4 pages, 1 eps figure, RevTex. A new possibility in the underdoped
