The design of a broad-band hybrid in X-band waveguide

Thesis (M.A.)--Boston UniversityEssentially, this paper deals with the design and development of a specialized type of waveguide directional coupler commonly known as a hybrid. A preliminary discussion concerning Maxwell's Equations and the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum with frequencies from 1,000-30,000 megacycles, known as the microwave region, is presented as necessary background material. The phenomenon of skin effect and other undesirable complications present at these high frequencies is considered. As a solution to some of these problems, improved transmission lines in the form of coaxial cables and rectangular waveguide are treated at length; the emphasis being mainly on waveguides

Consumers’ Perceptions on Privacy and Security in Ecommerce

    Get PDF
This report provides an analysis of consumers’ perception on security and privacy issues in e-commerce. The main objective of this research is to analyze the consumers’ perceptions on security and privacy and formulate recommendations based on the findings that would contribute in eradicating these issues and boosting consumer confidence. It also provides a brief discussion on the implications of e-commerce for both customers and companies, the emerging concerns over privacy and security, and the importance of consumers’ perceptions on security and privacy issues in bolstering e-commerce adoption. Data is collected through questionnaire and interviews in order to give a comprehensive view of consumers’ perceptions. Data collected have been represented in the form of graphs and charts to facilitate understanding of the study. Determining the perceptions of consumers on security and privacy issues related to e-commerce will benefit IT security providers and web businesses in crafting a multifaceted approach in addressing those perceptions, one that effectively combines technological solutions and sociological and psychological approaches in order to resolve one of the last remaining obstacles to the widespread use of e-commerce. Key words: e-commerce, consumers’ perception, technological solutions

Paradoxes in Collective Female Storytelling: A Study of Silence, Voice, Community, and Language in Assia Djebar\u27s Wrok

One of the preoccupations of postcolonial writers has been the idea of belonging and of displacement. This theme is important because the historical relationship between the colonizer and the colonized has relied upon social and cultural differences as a way of distinguishing between us and them, or as critic Edward Said has said, The West and the Rest. Furthermore, the postcolonial period has seen a vast movement of the formerly colonized subjects migrating to their Western motherlands. Algerian author and filmmaker Assia Djebar, whose career spans in excess of thirty-five years reflects upon the condition of postcoloniality in her work. In an interview with Clarisse Zirma, she discusses her multicultural identity in relation to the act of writing: Writing always brings one back to oneself, to that inner core or heart...I felt as if...I was exposing myself doubly. First, because as an Algerian, but living--or so it seemed--as a Westerner, I was somewhat exposed already. Second, because writing about my innermost self felt like exposing myself further: I more or less chose silence

    Periodontal Vaccines

    No full text
Periodontitis is an infectious disease caused by predominantly gram-negative, anaerobic bacteria like P. gingivalis, A. actinomycetemcomitans T. denticola and T. forsythus etc.. Various immunization approaches both as active and passive immunization, against periodontal pathogens have been explored either using the whole microorganism or their specific virulence factors. Non-human primate and other study models have demonstrated raised production of specific antibody titers against various antigens without any recognizable systemic side-effects. But, the current status of our understanding in the field of vaccines against periodontal disease is incomplete. Ongoing research & collaborative efforts can result in development of functional periodontal vaccine for human use in future

Proteomics or Genomics: A New Era in Periodontics

    No full text
Proteins are the building blocks for both microorganisms and periodontium. Periodontitis is the result of complex interrelationship between infectious agents and host factors. The onset, progression and severity of periodontal disease are mainly mediated by various protein molecules. The study of proteins as biomarkers in periodontal diseases has increased attention during the last few years. The proteins involved in pathogenesis of periodontal disease can be used as biomarkers. The knowledge of various proteins involved in periodontal disease pathogenesis can be used in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of periodontal diseases
