Background: Descriptions of treatments are sparsely cited in the literature when using a symptom-based approach to physical therapy after a lateral medullary stroke. However, there are many treatment options available for gait progression in the inpatient rehabilitation setting whether the patient is having a good or bad day (referring to symptoms). Case Description: The patient was a 53-year old male who suffered posterior circulation strokes (later named Lateral Medullary Syndrome) and had a 30-day stay on an inpatient rehabilitation unit. Outcome Measures: FIM scores were used to evaluate progress from initial evaluation to discharge. Daily subjective reports were also used to monitor and direct treatments. Discussion: Many interventions may be utilized in the inpatient rehabilitation setting to address gait along with other functional activities. A patient’s rehabilitation journey following lateral medullary syndrome is their own and should not be compared too closely to another’s. Post-stroke physical rehabilitation is not a linear progression, and requires flexibility in treatment decision making, often daily

The epicenter model and American influence on Bahamian Englishes

Americanization has been described as one of the major sociocultural processes of language change currently affecting varieties of English worldwide;it is generally linked to the post-World War II rise of the United States to global superpower status in political, military, economic, and cultural terms. Owing to their immediate geographical proximity, the Bahamas always had closer demographic, cultural, and institutional links with the North American mainland than other British colonies. The present paper applies the notion of epicentral influence, in the sense of a regionally dominant model influencing developments in neighboring areas, to Bahamian-American linguistic relations and attempts to disentangle global from epicentral American influence. It considers not just standard Bahamian English but also Bahamian Creole, all levels of language, diachronic and synchronic data, and corpus findings as well as attitudinal studies and discusses the theoretical and methodological implications of the Bahamian data for the epicenter idea

An asset/liability management model of a Federal Intermediate Credit Bank

Federal Intermediate Credit Banks (FICBs) provide short and intermediate term credit to agricultural producers. The asset/liability management technique used to eliminate interest rate risk exposure at the institutions consists of variable rate loan pricing; The asset and liability activities of an individual bank are modeled using portfolio theory and the technique of quadratic programming. A series of efficient frontiers is generated indicating the risk minimizing combination of asset and liability activities; The issue of interest rate risk management is also examined with a duration model measuring the pattern of interest rate changes between the asset and liability side of the balance sheet. Asset and liability durations are calculated and the duration gap reviewed

In February 2003, 212 HR managers of companies with at least 20 employees in the Obere Sieg region were interviewed to capture their attitude towards younger and older jobholders with poor occupational qualifications. Altogether, the two groups were assigned an almost equal qualification level, whereas among other things - the younger jobholders were attributed an above average preparedness towards all kinds of innovations, the older workers were associated with a sense of responsibility above average. These different qualifications, however, carry relatively little weight for the appraisal of jobholders; what is more important is the general assessment which might also depend on the external framework conditions. Apparently, governmental investments such as financial allowances have only marginal impact on the companies decisions regarding the employment of older workers, other measures, e.g. early retirement arrangements and special dismissal protection seem to be counterproductive
