International expansion of emerging market enterprises: A springboard perspective
In this article, we present a springboard perspective to describe the internationalization of emerging market multinational corporations (EM MNEs). EM MNEs use international expansion as a springboard to acquire strategic resources and reduce their institutional and market constraints at home. In so doing, they overcome their latecomer disadvantage in the global stage via a series of aggressive, risk-taking measures by aggressively acquiring or buying critical assets from mature MNEs to compensate for their competitive weaknesses. We discuss unique traits that characterize the international expansion of EM MNEs, and the unique motivations that steer them toward internationalization. We further delineate peculiar strategies and activities undertaken by these firms in pursuit of international expansion, as well as internal and external forces that might compel or facilitate their propulsion into the global scene. We finally explain the risks and remedies associated with this international ‘springboarding’ strategy and highlight major issues meriting further investigation. Readiness for Employment: Perceptions of Mental Health Service Users
Work is good for both physical and mental health, and access to work is a basic human right. People with mental health conditions want to work and with the right support can work but are often excluded from the workplace. We explored factors influencing individual's perceptions of their readiness for employment. Participants' narratives focused particularly on personal causation and it's interreactions with other aspects of volition, habituation and the environment and highlight a number of key areas, which are discussed in relation to service provision. Sheltered workshops offer support and some structure and routine but may limit an individual's readiness for employment. Services should be evidence based and focused on real work opportunities which fit with individual's interests and values. Occupational therapy theory offers a unique and valuable perspective in understanding perceptions of readiness for employment and occupational therapists offer valid and useful assessments and interventions for vocational rehabilitation.sch_occ49pub3160pub
Knowledge Management for Adult and Higher Education: Mapping the Recent Literature
The recent literature shows that the field of knowledge management (KM) has a potential importance for the education area. It has been argued that KM concepts, models, and practices may be beneficial to teachers, learners, and university managers. An open issue, however, is whether and how the research and practice in these two distinct fields\u2014education and KM\u2014are really converging. This chapter proposes a systematic analysis of the literature to shed light onto the intersection between the fields of KM and adult and higher education. The main research trends are detected and highlighted. The analysis shows that there are promising applications of KM to higher education and university management. However, there is still the need to carry out more theoretical or applicative research with the purpose to facilitate the effective incorporation of KM notions, concepts, or practices into the education field
