Additional Acceleration of Protons and Energetic Neutrino Production in a Filamentary Jet of the Blazar Markarian 501
Blazars have been regarded as one of the most powerful sources of the highest
energy cosmic rays and also their byproducts, neutrinos. Provided that a
magnetized filamentary system is established in a blazar jet as well, we could
apply the mechanism of multi-stage diffusive shock acceleration to a feasible
TeV emitter, Mrk 501 to evaluate the achievable maximum energy of protons.
Taking conceivable energy restriction into account systematically, it seems
adequate to say that EeV-protons are produced at this site by our present
model. We also estimate neutrino fluxes generated by these accelerated protons
and discuss the detectability based on an updated kilometre-scale telescope
such as IceCube.Comment: 17 pages, 3 Postscript figure
False Vacuum in the Supersymmetric Mass Varying Neutrinos Model
We present detailed analyses of the vacuum structure of the scalar potential
in a supersymmetric Mass Varying Neutrinos model. The observed dark energy
density is identified with false vacuum energy and the dark energy scale of
order is understood by gravitationally suppressed supersymmetry
breaking scale, , in the model. The vacuum expectation
values of sneutrinos should be tiny in order that the model works. Some decay
processes of superparticles into acceleron and sterile neutrino are also
discussed in the model.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, revtex, typos correcte
Deformation of LeBrun's ALE metrics with negative mass
In this article we investigate deformations of a scalar-flat K\"ahler metric
on the total space of complex line bundles over CP^1 constructed by C. LeBrun.
In particular, we find that the metric is included in a one-dimensional family
of such metrics on the four-manifold, where the complex structure in the
deformation is not the standard one.Comment: 20 pages, no figure. V2: added two references, filled a gap in the
proof of Theorem 1.2. V3: corrected a wrong statement about Kuranishi family
of a Hirzebruch surface stated in the last paragraph in the proof of Theorem
1.2, and fixed a relevant error in the proof. Also added a reference [24]
about Kuranishi family of Hirzebruch surface
Field-induced commensurate long-range order in the Haldane-gap system NDMAZ
High-field neutron diffraction studies of the new quantum-disordered S=1
linear-chain antiferromagnet Ni(CHN)N(ClO) (NDMAZ)
are reported. At T=70 mK, at a critical field T applied along the
(013) direction, a phase transition to a commensurate N\'{e}el-like ordered
state is observed. The results are discussed in the context of existing
theories of quantum phase transitions in Haldane-gap antiferromagnets, and in
comparions with previous studies of the related system

Femtosecond response time measurements of a Cs2Te photocathode
We present the response time measurements of a Cs2Te photocathode illuminated
with two 100 fs duration, variable time separation laser pulses at 266 nm
wavelength. The response time was confirmed in dispersive region downstream of
a 12-cell standing wave S-band acceleration structure using a well-known RF
zero-crossing technique. At the same time it was also measured by changing
mechanical path-length difference between two micro-bunches. Both methods agree
that Cs2Te photocathode time response is of the order of 250 fs and thereby it
is possible to generate and control a THz sequence of relativistic electron
bunches by a conventional S-band RF gun. This result further opens a
possibility to construct wide-range tunable THz FEL
A simulation of high energy cosmic ray propagation 1
High energy cosmic ray propagation of the energy region 10 to the 14.5 power - 10 to the 18th power eV is simulated in the inter steller circumstances. In conclusion, the diffusion process by turbulent magnetic fields is classified into several regions by ratio of the gyro-radius and the scale of turbulence. When the ratio becomes larger then 10 to the minus 0.5 power, the analysis with the assumption of point scattering can be applied with the mean free path E sup 2. However, when the ratio is smaller than 10 to the minus 0.5 power, we need a more complicated analysis or simulation. Assuming the turbulence scale of magnetic fields of the Galaxy is 10-30pc and the mean magnetic field strength is 3 micro gauss, the energy of cosmic ray with that gyro-radius is about 10 to the 16.5 power eV
Field induced long-range-ordering in an S=1 quasi-one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet
We have measured the heat capacity and magnetization of the spin one
one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet NDMAP and constructed a magnetic
field versus temperature phase diagram. We found a field induced long-range
magnetic ordering. We have been successful in explaining the phase diagram
theoretically.Comment: 6 pages, 18 figure
Field-induced 3- and 2-dimensional freezing in a quantum spin liquid
Field-induced commensurate transverse magnetic ordering is observed in the
Haldane-gap compound \nd by means of neutron diffraction. Depending on the
direction of applied field, the high-field phase is shown to be either a
3-dimensional ordered N\'{e}el state or a short-range ordered state with
dominant 2-dimensional spin correlations. The structure of the high-field phase
is determined, and properties of the observed quantum phase transition are
discussed.Comment: 4 pages 3 figure
