    On Vortex-induced Oscillation of Bluff Bodies

    This paper considers the classification of vortex-induced oscillations and the geometrical shape effects on them. The following points are considered : 1) the flow pattern around the section, 2) the relation between the onset critical reduced velocity and the critical reduced velocity which is defined as the reciprocal of the Strouhal Number and 3) the relation between the two onset critical reduced velocities of vortex-induced oscillations (in the heaving and the torsional mode). Also, an estimation of “the onset critical reduced velocity” and “the allowable amplitude concerning the fatigue failure of steel” of vortex-induced oscillation is described

    Cement generations and diagenetic history of the upper Ordovician Cliefden Caves Limestone Group of New South Wales, Australia

    Diagenetic features of the upper Ordovician (Caradocian) Cliefden Caves Limestone Group (N. S. W., Australia) were studied by the cathodoluminescence (CL) method, and their relation with depositional environments was discussed. The Cliefden Caves Limestone Group was deposited on a shallow marine carbonate platform developed on a volcanic island. The limestone succession reveals intertidal-subtidal lithofacies and consists of the Fossil Hill, Belubula, and Vandon Limestones, in ascending order. The Fossil Hill Limestone mostly consists of bedded limestone rich in brachiopods and sedentary organisms. The Belubula Limestone is a typical Middle-Upper Ordovician peritidal succession with syn-depositional dolomite and silicified fossil grains. The Vandon Limestone consists of fossiliferous stratified limestone occasionally containing red brown argillaceous limestone beds. The Cliefden Caves Limestone Group was subjected to various diagenetic processes. The investigation of CL is the best or only method to differentiate the diagenetic products. There are at least three cementation stages and a dissolution stage. The cements of the first stage are mainly dull fine-grained (10-30 µm) calcite crystals fringing inter- and intra-granular porosity, which typically indicate a marine phreatic environment. In some specimens of the Belubula Limestone, cement of the first generation exhibits meniscus fabrics suggesting precipitation in a marine vadose environment. The dissolution formed both molds of aragonitic skeletal grains and fabric-unrelated void spaces which can exceed several cm in diameter. Lack of the first generation cement within the dissolution voids indicates that the dissolution postdated the marine cementation. After the dissolution stage, the second cementation precipitated granular calcite crystals composed of non-luminescence, dull, and bright zones in the peripheral order. The relative thickness of non-luminescence and bright zones probably related with a redox condition during their diagenesis. The last generation of cements formed in a deep burial environment, is normally dull and filled almost all remained porosity. This diagenetic history fits to the change of depositional environment which may have been controlled by both of local and global environmental settings

    Scandium 45 in meteoritic irons

    This report presents the results of determinations of cosmogenic ^Sc and light noble gases in iron meteorites. Sc and REE were simultaneously determined using radiochemical neutron activation method. This method is sensitive enough for detection of as little as lower than 10^gSc/g, compared to the level of cosmic ray effects in irons which are usually in the range of 10^-10^gSc/g. The lowest concentration found in irons was 2×10^gSc/g in the Campo del Cielo and similar contents were observed in the Gibeon, DRP-78008 (and Brenham-metal). Even at these low levels, Sc seems mostly attributable to cosmic ray production. The Sc content in irons is best compared with cosmogenic ^4He. The ratio of Sc to ^4He, approximately 1×10^gSc/1×10^cc ^4He, or an average atomic ratio of 1 : 19±3,was observed independent of shielding. Technical aspects of metal phase separation from ordinary chondrites were studied. In one Peace River metal sample, 0.9 ppbSc was found. This number corresponds to 0.01% of the stone phase in the metal. This level of contamination seems still higher than the cosmogenic level of 0.2 ppbSc expected in the metal phase of this meteorite

    1.岡山県南部の岡山和気及び備前の3地区のCampbell Early及びMuscat Bailey Aのそれぞれ12又は8園をえらび,6月15日と,Campbell Earlyでは8月1日(成熟期8月中旬),Muscat Bailey Aでは8月13日(成熟期9月中旬)の2回ずつ,結果枝の第6又は第7節位葉を採取し,N・P・K・CaおよびMgについて葉分析を行なった.2.Campbell Earlyの葉中Mg含量は6月15日の0.29%(100)から8月1日の0.25%(86)まで減少した.これらの葡萄園のCampbell Earlyは潜在的Mg欠乏の初期段階にあるものと推定される.3.一方,Muscat Bailey AのMgの含量は6月15日と8月13日では夫々0.19%(100)と0.30%(158)であった.このような早期潜在的Mg欠乏とも云うべきものの機構について2,3の考察を行なった.4.Campbell Earlyについては6月15日と8月1日の葉中N含量はそれぞれ3.20%(100)と2.35%(73)であった.少くともN含量は8月中旬まではこれよりもやや含量が多くあることが望ましいという建前からとすると,8月1日のN含量が6月15日のそれの73%の低さであったことは警戒に値する.Muscat Bailey AのNについての栄養度もCampbell Earlyと略々同じ傾向を示した.5.岡山県の10a当り標準収量2,250kgであるのに,10園中優良園とみられる4園の平均収量でさえ10a当り1,672kgであった.普通園とみられる他の6園の平均収量は10a当り1,313kgであった.この事実はこれらの葡萄園の栽培要因と関連して検討しなければならない.6.本実験の範囲内では8月1日に採葉した.Campbell Earlyの葉中N含量とChloropbyll含量との相関の有意性は認められなかった.葉のN含量(%)と葉の生育に関連ある第6節位葉の縦径(中肋長)及び横径(葉巾)等との間の相関係数についてはN(%):縦径,N(%):葉巾,およびN(%):縦横積(L×B)ではそれぞれ+0.041,+0.486及び+0.245であった.しかしN(%):B/L ratioについてはγ=+0.652で,より高い相関が認められた.もし更に多くの試料について検討したならばその相関関係はより高くなるのではあるまいか.7.ただし,第7節位葉についてN(%):B/L ratioに関する同様な相関を求めたところ,上記とは反対に,γ=-0.404であって負の相関を示した.かかる矛盾した現象について2・3の考察を行なった

The peritoneal loose bodies were found to be fat-containing masses on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging, and postoperative pathological examination revealed fat degeneration tissue with or without fibrous outer layers

    Estimation of Shor\u27s Circuit for 2048-bit Integers based on Quantum Simulator

    Evaluating exact computational resources necessary for factoring large integers by Shor algorithm using an ideal quantum computer is difficult because simplified circuits were used in past experiments, in which qubits and gates were reduced as much as possible by using the features of the integers, though 15 and 21 were factored on quantum computers. In this paper, we implement Shor algorithm for general composite numbers, and factored 96 RSA-type composite numbers up to 9-bit using a quantum computer simulator. In the largest case, N=511N=511 was factored within 2 hours. Then, based on these experiments, we estimate the number of gates and the depth of Shor\u27s quantum circuits for factoring 1024-bit and 2048-bit integers. In our estimation, Shor\u27s quantum circuit for factoring 1024-bit integers requires 2.78×10112.78 \times 10^{11} gates, and with depth 2.24×10112.24 \times 10^{11}, while 2.23×10122.23 \times 10^{12} gates, and with depth 1.80×10121.80 \times 10^{12} for 2048-bit integers

    Cisplatin plus Docetaxel Chemotherapy for Thoracic Lymph Node Metastasis from Cancer of Unknown Primary – Experience of Three Cases

    The optimal chemotherapeutic regimen for cancer of unknown primary (CUP) remains uncertain. We encountered 3 cases with CUP who presented with thoracic lymph node metastasis. Detailed physical examination and diagnostic tests, including laboratory investigations, bronchoscopy, upper and lower gastrointestinal studies, computed tomography of the head, neck, abdomen and pelvis and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography, failed to identify the primary site in these cases. The patients were treated with the cisplatin plus docetaxel chemotherapy regimen. Concomitant thoracic radiotherapy was conducted in one patient and surgical resection in another. All patients showed good response to the chemotherapy and achieved long-term disease-free survival
