Psychological type and prayer preferences: a study among Anglican clergy in the United Kingdom
This study applies the framework of Jungian psychological type theory to define eight aspects of prayer preference, namely: introverted prayer, extraverted prayer, sensing prayer, intuitive prayer, feeling prayer, thinking prayer, judging prayer, and perceiving prayer. On the basis of data provided by 1,476 newly ordained Anglican clergy from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, eight 7-item scales were developed to access these aspects of prayer preferences. Significant correlations were found between each prayer preference and the relevant aspect of psychological type accessed by the Keirsey Temperament Sorter. These data support the theory that psychological type influences the way in which people pray
QCD with Chemical Potential in a Small Hyperspherical Box
To leading order in perturbation theory, we solve QCD, defined on a small
three sphere in the large N and Nf limit, at finite chemical potential and map
out the phase diagram in the (mu,T) plane. The action of QCD is complex in the
presence of a non-zero quark chemical potential which results in the sign
problem for lattice simulations. In the large N theory, which at low
temperatures becomes a conventional unitary matrix model with a complex action,
we find that the dominant contribution to the functional integral comes from
complexified gauge field configurations. For this reason the eigenvalues of the
Polyakov line lie off the unit circle on a contour in the complex plane. We
find at low temperatures that as mu passes one of the quark energy levels there
is a third-order Gross-Witten transition from a confined to a deconfined phase
and back again giving rise to a rich phase structure. We compare a range of
physical observables in the large N theory to those calculated numerically in
the theory with N=3. In the latter case there are no genuine phase transitions
in a finite volume but nevertheless the observables are remarkably similar to

Apparent diffusion coefficient restriction in the white matter: going beyond acute brain territorial ischemia
BACKGROUND: Reduction of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in white matter is not always ischaemic in nature.
METHODS: We retrospectively analysed our MRI records featuring reduced ADC values in the centrum semiovale without grey matter involvement or significant vasogenic oedema.
RESULTS: Several conditions showed the aforementioned MR findings: moose-horn lesions on coronal images in X-linked Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease; small fronto-parietal lesions in Menkes disease; marked signal abnormalities in the myelinised regions in the acute neonatal form of maple syrup urine disease; strip-like involvement of the corpus callosum in glutaric aciduria type 1; persistent periventricular parieto-occipital abnormalities in phenylketonuria; diffuse signal abnormalities with necrotic evolution in global cerebral anoxia or after heroin vapour inhalation; almost completely reversible symmetric fronto-parietal lesions in methotrexate neurotoxicity; chain-like lesions in watershed ischaemia; splenium involvement that normalises in reversible splenial lesions or leads to gliosis in diffuse axonal injury.
CONCLUSION: Neuroradiologists must be familiar with these features, thereby preventing misdiagnosis and inappropriate management
CAR-T cell. the long and winding road to solid tumors
Adoptive cell therapy of solid tumors with reprogrammed T cells can be considered the "next generation" of cancer hallmarks. CAR-T cells fail to be as effective as in liquid tumors for the inability to reach and survive in the microenvironment surrounding the neoplastic foci. The intricate net of cross-interactions occurring between tumor components, stromal and immune cells leads to an ineffective anergic status favoring the evasion from the host's defenses. Our goal is hereby to trace the road imposed by solid tumors to CAR-T cells, highlighting pitfalls and strategies to be developed and refined to possibly overcome these hurdles
TonEBP suppresses adipogenesis and insulin sensitivity by blocking epigenetic transition of PPAR gamma 2
TonEBP is a key transcription factor in cellular adaptation to hypertonic stress, and also in macrophage activation. Since TonEBP is involved in inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and atherosclerosis, we asked whether TonEBP played a role in adipogenesis and insulin resistance. Here we report that TonEBP suppresses adipogenesis and insulin signaling by inhibiting expression of the key transcription factor PPAR gamma 2. TonEBP binds to the PPAR gamma 2 promoter and blocks the epigenetic transition of the locus which is required for the activation of the promoter. When TonEBP expression is reduced, the epigenetic transition and PPAR gamma 2 expression are markedly increased leading to enhanced adipogenesis and insulin response while inflammation is reduced. Next-next-to-extremal Four Point Functions of N=4 1/2 BPS Operators in the AdS/CFT Correspondence
Four point functions of general N=4 1/2-BPS primary fields, satisfying the
next-next-to-extremality condition
\Delta_{1}+\Delta_{2}+\Delta_{3}-\Delta_{4}=4 are studied at large N and strong
coupling. We apply new techniques to evaluate the effective couplings in
supergravity, and confirm that the four derivative couplings arising in the
five-dimensional supergravity vanish on-shell. We then show that the four point
amplitude resulting from supergravity naturally splits into a "free" and an
interactive part which resembles an effective quartic interaction. The precise
structure agrees with superconformal symmetry and supports the conjecture
formulated by Dolan, Osborn and Nirschl regarding the strongly coupled form of
four point correlators of chiral primary operators. We also evaluate the
amplitude in large N free field SYM theory and discuss the results in the

Diffuse ST segment depression from hypothermia
Hypothermia is known to cause specific electrocardiographic (EKG) changes such as Osborne waves and bradycardia. We report diffuse ST segment depression, an atypical EKG change, in a patient with a core temperature of 29.4°C (85°F). This patient had no previous cardiovascular pathology, and his EKG changes resolved gradually with aggressive warming. We also discuss the pathophysiology and clinical significance of ST depression in the general population and the typical EKG changes in hypothermia patients
Surgical management of dural arteriovenous fistulas with transosseous arterial feeders involving the jugular bulb
Dural arteriovenous fistulas located in the vicinity of the jugular foramen are complex vascular malformations and belong to the most challenging skull base lesions to treat. The authors comprehensively analyze multiple features in a series of dural arteriovenous fistulas with transosseous arterial feeders involving the jugular bulb. Four patients who underwent surgery via the transcondylar approach to treat dural arteriovenous fistulas around the jugular foramen were retrospectively reviewed. Previously, endovascular treatment was attempted in all patients. The success of the surgical treatment was examined with postoperative angiography. Complete obliteration of the dural arteriovenous fistulas (DAVFs) was achieved in three patients, and significant flow reduction in one individual. All patients had a good postoperative outcome, and only one experienced mild hypoglossal nerve palsy. Despite extensive bone drilling, an occipitocervical fusion was necessary in only one patient with bilateral lesions. The use of an individually tailored transcondylar approach to treat dural arteriovenous fistulas at the region of the jugular foramen is most effective. This approach allows for complete obliteration of the connecting arterial feeders, and removal of bony structures containing pathological vessels
Spectrum of centrosome autoantibodies in childhood varicella and post-varicella acute cerebellar ataxia
BACKGROUND: Sera from children with post-varicella infections have autoantibodies that react with centrosomes in brain and tissue culture cells. We investigated the sera of children with infections and post-varicella ataxia and related conditions for reactivity to five recombinant centrosome proteins: γγ-enolase, pericentrin, ninein, PCM-1, and Mob1. METHODS: Sera from 12 patients with acute post-varicella ataxia, 1 with post-Epstein Barr virus (EBV) ataxia, 5 with uncomplicated varicella infections, and other conditions were tested for reactivity to cryopreserved cerebellum tissue and recombinant centrosome proteins. The distribution of pericentrin in the cerebellum was studied by indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) using rabbit antibodies to the recombinant protein. Antibodies to phospholipids (APL) were detected by ELISA. RESULTS: Eleven of 12 children with post-varicella ataxia, 4/5 children with uncomplicated varicella infections, 1/1 with post-EBV ataxia, 2/2 with ADEM, 1/2 with neuroblastoma and ataxia, and 2/2 with cerebellitis had antibodies directed against 1 or more recombinant centrosome antigens. Antibodies to pericentrin were seen in 5/12 children with post-varicella ataxia but not in any of the other sera tested. IIF demonstrated that pericentrin is located in axons and centrosomes of cerebellar cells. APL were detected in 75% of the sera from children with post-varicella ataxia and 50% of children with varicella without ataxia and in none of the controls. CONCLUSION: This is the first study to show the antigen specificity of anti-centrosome antibodies in children with varicella. Our data suggest that children with post-varicella ataxia have unique autoantibody reactivity to pericentrin
